Cosmo Communicator - Linux / backlight keyboard
« on: February 27, 2020, 09:14:48 am »
Can this be of any help? Different device, chip and Leds distribution, so since it is no c/p solution it is beyond my skils, but I "smell" for someone with more knowledge then me, It should be doable...

@ArchiMark, I respect diversity of needs and user cases, but I find this "mouseless" solution much more comfortable (no need to carry mouse around in my pocket, however small it is).

For kbd backlight in Linux, there is no solution yet, but I feel it is close...

Cosmo Communicator - Linux / Right-click

I found this Gemini solution very useful on Cosmo too.

Since, there is no "40-libinput.conf" file in "xorg.conf.d" folder on Cosmo, I made it myself (in nano), rebooted and it works. Left click, right click, 2 fingers scroll... everything works fine...

Cosmo Communicator - Linux / Beta Linux Testing

Thank you for interest. No, I didn' do anything to compromise it. Just went to kitchen for 15 mins. It is alive, I can see it still connected to my router but screen is off. Tried to ssh from laptop, found it, but passw. "gemini" is rejected...

Is there a way to power off or restart device with buttons only? I was using debian, left it powered on, and after 10-15 mins display turned off, like to some sleep state. The blue caps lock led is on but nothing else. Do I really have to wait for batt to die...?

Btw, here it is:

So good to hear PC takes this seriously and are willing to deal with it in the next(?) firmware update. --- @Ninji, I can't speek in the name of every Cosmo owner, but I feel like everyone of us owe you at least a cup of coffee or glass of beer. Without any intension to insult anyone or to break any rules of this forum, I suggest you to put your PayPal or crypto address in your signature or something, if you feel like it... Thank you anway.

At least we're not the only ones with these kind of problems: https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/e...on_all_samsung/
Samsung top devices can cost a fortune. This is so sad...

I saw that on tweeter ( https://mobile.twitter.com/_Ninji ), and PC has been contacted by this briliant guy on Dec02 about that issue. He also ported TWRP for Cosmo. My Cosmo is in its box waiting for dual boot firmware, so I can boot something else, custom if possible, far away from PC, Google and Shenzen OTA servers... Dogs are friends of mine.

PS: @Daniel W, you are missing r in the end of the first link

Even if they could use just the two LEDs at either end, that would be useful.  There's one above the camera that I've never seen lit on my Cosmo, but I do recall seeing it on in a Cosmo video (can't recall which).
Maybe they can come up with something clever that uses those two at either end plus the two on the fingerprint / rocker switch, but as those two are taken over by the cover display, I don't know if the two can play nicely together.
Put it in airplane mode from android main screen and then close the device. The only way I could trigger it and see if it works (and exists at all). It should light red in that case scenario and doesn't turns off even if ext. screen goes to sleep. Puting device in airplane mode from external screen doesn't trigger it at all. I made both recent firmware upgrades (android and codi), if that matters. Must admit I did't even knew it's there... OT: I think 4 leds, in some kind of cross geometry, are definitely enough to be used smart without any help from external screen (IMHO), in some sort of high power saving mode when batt. level is under 10%, or similar. All of this is very low priority to PC at this point, actually, it sounds like something for community to handle at some point...
