Software / Flash Card Program For Testing Vocabulary?
« on: December 30, 2005, 08:08:50 am »
See MyFlashCards here:
http://www.digital-artefacts.fi/~mico/zaurus.html

You can also try these Japanese Flash card programs:

MioFlash  It is for Japanese language but it probably should work for other language as well.  It is open source. http://miosuite.sourceforge.net/

J-Flash http://alex.2net.at/j-flash.html

kurochka,

Thanks for the links - I am not familiar with MioFlash and J-Flash, and will give them a try. I tested MyFlashCards on my c700 a few weeks ago, but wasn't able to get the program to work properly.

Software / Flash Card Program For Testing Vocabulary?

Does anyone know of an app that works under Cacko 1.23 that would let me take an existing list I have of English phrases and their foreign equivalents, and then create a quick vocabulary test based on the text file? Sort of like a flashcard system.

The best example of a system like this is TestMe for Psion:

Software / How To Make Zeditor Default Text Editor?
« on: December 02, 2005, 06:33:31 am »
I'm still trying to associate text files with ZEditor.

As far as I can figure out, I go to the directory

/home/QtPalmtop/apps/Applications

and open "zeditor.desktop" with my text editor (in this case ZEditor)

Under "CanFastload=1" I then add:

MimeType=text/plain
MimeTypeIcons=zeditor

I do all that, but when I try to save the changed zeditor.desktop I get a write error message that prevents me from saving the changes.

How do I get the Zaurus to accept the changes to the file?

As long as I'm asking about how to make file associations - how would I associate MS-Word docs with TextMaker instead of Hancomword?

Thx,

Thanks for the background info on associations.

But I'm still in the dark about how to get text files to associate with ZEditor.

I guess something has to be typed into the console? What that something is, I have no idea....

znpp

"The file association information is derived from two places. The file /home/QtPalmtop/etc/mime.types stores the mime types that is used to derive the association information which is then combined with the desktop files stored under /home/QtPalmtop/apps

The information inside mime.types specifies what file extensions are associated with each file type."

Software / How To Make Zeditor Default Text Editor?
« on: December 01, 2005, 03:23:08 am »
I installed ZEditor 3.2.2. English and find it much better than TextEditor 1.23 lite.

Tapping on text files used to automatically open TextEditor, but now that I've deleted TextEditor, I get the following message when I try to open text files:

"No application is defined for this document. Type is text/plain."

How do I create an association that will cause ZEditor to open as the default text editor when I tap on text files?

Thanks,

Software / Console Commands For Zipping Files
« on: December 01, 2005, 03:08:41 am »
Thanks for the tip! Pretty simple once you know how to do it.

I have two more questions:

1. How do I view the contents of a zip archive without unzipping the whole thing?
2. How do I extract one or more individual files from a zip archive?

thx,
znpp

you must give it a name for the zipfile.
eg. zip test1.doc.zip test1.doc

to zip more files just tell it more names
eg. zip test1.doc.zip test1.doc China1.doc Fox2.xls Bravo3.ppt Tree4.txt

Software / Console Commands For Zipping Files

I have zip for the z version 2.3 installed on my C700 running Cacko 1.23 lite, but I can't figure out how to use it.

What is the proper syntax for zipping a file or files with zip 2.3?

When I write:
"zip test1.doc"

I get some of the following messages:
"Zip file structure invalid" or
"Nothing to do"

Unzipping files works like a charm, but I'd also like to be able to zip single or multiple files into a zip archive.

For example, how would I zip this file:

test1.doc

Or several files at the same time:

China1.doc
Fox2.xls
Bravo3.ppt
Tree4.txt

Thanks!
