C1000/3x00 Hardware / Can't Get Wi-fi To Work
« on: March 20, 2006, 12:01:22 pm »
Ok, well I am confused.
I got the DLink Card this evening and I plugged it into Gimlet and I can not get it to connect -
Here is what I have done

In Networks, I created a new Wireless-LAN TCP-IP service
On the Config tab I have Non-Spec ESS-ID "Any Checked"
WEP is disabled
PPPoE is not checked
Web Auth is not checked
TCP/IP is checked to obtain information automaticallY
DNS is checked to auto detect
Proxy is No Proxy.
I then click ok and the setup window closes
I click Connect, I see the lights on the card flashing and then I get... (wait for it)
.....Network Offline

Do I need to change any config files?
What should ?(unknown) config file have in it by default

Please be gentle with me, I am still new at this... but I have gotten perl to work so there is hope for me yet(yipppeee)

Thanks

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Perl And Path

The ~ is substituted with the value of $HOME in most shells so instead of eg providing /home/zaurus all the time, you can just specify ~

Most shells have their own rc script file, but they also usually default to .profile as well if their own rc file does not exist, so in case of bash, it will look for ~/.bashrc first, then ~/.profile

As a side, why do you need to specify the path to perl? perl usually installs to /usr/bin/perl or /usr/local/bin/perl or at least is symlinked to those locations and those should be in the default path anyway. besides, don't you specify the perl header in your perl scripts? if you do that you can just execute the script directly and it will find perl by itself.

eg:
Code: [Select]
#!/usr/local/bin/perl -w
print("Hi, this is a perl script,\n");
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=117483\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I am new to perl too
I am trying to learn perl (as well as the Linux/Zaurus OS) by writing a script to back up my documents directory to my CF card.

i discovered problems with suspend mode with dcf 660w and cacko 1.23 on c3100. i eventually worked around it by doing the following (taken from my post in https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...c=17487&st=15):

- NEVER use DISconnect
- use eject instead (eject icon provided or cardctl eject 0)
- in order to easily reconnect do the following:
- write short script "reconnect.sh":
#! /bin/sh
cardctl insert 0
- save to /usr/local/bin and chmod a+rwx reconnect.sh
- write desktop file for reconnect.sh or copy /home/QtPalmtop/apps/Applications/mc.desktop and modify this (e.g. "reconnect.desktop", Exec=reconnect.sh, Icon=transform, Name=Network Reconnect, etc.)
- sometimes you have to additionally click on "connect" to connect, sometimes it works automatically, i don't have a clue why, does anyone have one?

note: in my case updating firmware didn't help anything, you can read the whole story in the thread mentioned above

I will give it a try when the card shows up over the weekend, thanks so much

Edit ~/.bashrc, add export PATH=$PATH:/path_perl
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=117440\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Alright, I am new to this, what is '~/' - is that my home directory?
I did a search for .bashrc and could not find the file - I found the .profile file and that has a Path variable in it - should I change that?

Thanks,
(I hated having to always enter the entire thing )

Well I got a new phone that does not have BT anymore, so I cant use that as my modem. So I went hunting on ebay and found a  DLINK DCF 660W 802.11b  at a good price.

I am using Cacko ROM v1.23 on  my C1000
Are there any got-cha's ?
1) Do I have to change anything to get it to work with Kismet?

2) What about the Wireless monitor that comes with Cacko

3) Any special settings for the network connection - I have access to an open WiFi router (yippeee)

4)Or can I just plug it in

« on: February 28, 2006, 12:36:20 pm »
I was wondering if the dictionary application allows for the user to build their own files? I need to learn welsh and I doubt there is a one out there, so I was wondering how you create the files ?

Any and all help is appreciated.

I have been trying out various software packages and I notice that after I uninstall them there are some folders and files left behind.

Can I just delete them? or is there a better way to do the clean up

Sharp ROMs / Link Email Program To Another Address Book?
« on: December 28, 2005, 08:55:49 pm »
I am using the Cacko Rom but have decided to use the Kompany address book instead of the one that comes with Cacko.

BUT, I am still using the standard email app and when you go to launch the address book to look up and email address it, the email program launches the address book that comes with Cacko.
I have looked in the QTMail.config file to see if it referenced the app to use for an address book and I did not see one (i could have missed it)

So any one have an idea how to fix this?

Thanks in advance....

I just added my name to the map, and my husband was looking over my shoulder.
He's shaking his head and frowning. when asked what he was thinking he said....
"You computer people, I don't know about you......" and slowly wandered off into his office, leaving me to mine!
