I translated the page, but I'm still unsure what to do with the patch. Can you help me out?  I've installed the sdl ipk, but again I dont know how to patch it. Without patching it  works, but the keys need better mapping, is that what the patch fixes?

Again any details would be greatly appreciated.

Been looking into a hack that allows us to only need to remove the chip, resoldering the chips may be able to be done with a standard soldering iorn with this mod

the advantage is that we can also support up to the 1GB of ram the pxa supports: effectivly its a daughter card with a section that lines up where the chips used to be which we pour solder down to make the connection but will come preloaded with bga ram parts as well as the adress decoding logic to support more ram

kind of complex to imaginge but easy to egineer

I contacted pocket pc tech, as a friend suggested,
he has a Dell axim and is considering their services.

[a href=\"http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~unit~Dell_Axim_X51v-509~area~upgrades~item~D51-064-128RAM.htm]http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~unit~Del...-064-128RAM.htm[/url]

From what I gather, the Dell memory,
and Zaurus are similar BGA, and size I dont know about speed, I'll have to
check on that. Here is the response I recieved.

Hi carl,

We have not evaluated the unit.

Regards,

Leonard

If enough of us are willing
to pay for their services, maybe they might actually look into doing upgrades for
Zaurus models. $169 might seem a bit much, but I'm sure you need a soldering station to do the upgrade, so my soldering iron is out of the question.

Can you clarify question 1? you don't need ipktools package and use xipk-link unless you want to build your own cramfs image. is that what you are trying to do? the xqtapps-setup file for example is xipk-link (in fact most of the xqt*-setup files in the various cramfs images are xipk-link renamed.
[/quote]

Actually,  I think I'm a bit confused... if I reset the zaurus, the files just need to be remounted and/or relinked? or is relinking done once, and automounting the cramfs image everytime my SD card is removed and plugged in?

My goal might clarify things. I just want to be able to run XQT and the mozilla package off of my SD card at anytime, regardless of if I removed the card and re-inserting it. That is of course with the intent that my cramfs images reside in the same directory all the time on the SD card.

I've used your automount before it works, but a few times, the sd card did not wake up from suspend, so I uninstalled the automounter. Is this the automounter or a problem inherent to the zaurus or SD card?

Thanks in advance,

Carl

X/Qt / X/qt Jumbo Cramfs

I have updated xqt-apps and xqt-mozilla cramfs images.

The new xqt-mozilla (0.2) cramfs now has working firefox and thunderbird

Another job well done Meanie, you are a Saint.  I was having problems with firefox cramfs, now it works perfect! Two questions though:

1) is it possible you can give more instructions on how to link the images with the ipktools package. I not sure what to type at the command line with xipk-link

2) I would like to know can you provide some basic howto convert deb to ipk package. I'm interested in porting the latest firefox to the zaurus. The one in you cramfs is version 0.9 I believe.

Thanks for all the hard work, it's much appreciated by everyone on this forum, and noobs like me.

Hi upstart7

I have installed xqt-mozilla.cramfs on my c860 both firefox and thunderbird work
without using debian

for info all my cramfs are installed on a compact flash so no need to mount for me

freebird
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=107099\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

freebird, can you elaborate a bit on what you did.  What I did was copy the jumbo cramfs, and mozilla cramfs to my SD card (FAT files system), along with the xqt-install script.  Then I ran the  install script as su:
Code: [Select]
./xqt-install.sh
I then proceeded to launch firefox,( the icons appear in Qtopia at this point) from the terminal, as su -

Code: [Select]
xlauncher firefox
Is there anything else I need to do? I've read meanie's site, and this entire thread.

I've tried the stock Sharprom, Cacko 1.23 and no luck on my C1000. I've gotten as far as firfox loading, but when I choose "default profile" it says it's in use, and closes.

Mind you, i've gotten the apps cramfs to work, and I've used meanie automounter succesfully also. I uninstalled  the automounter when the Zaurus started not recognizing the SD card when it was in the slot.

This reminds me of my college days running firefox on solaris in the computer labs, I would get a similar error, and what I would do in that case is erase the cache, and temp files. This error was usually becuase I've reached my disk quota. I dont know if it's the same case here. I have plenty (20mg>) left in the internal flash, and in main memory according to the manager I'm fine.

Thanks for the confirmation freebird, and if there is anything else you can add, I'd greatly appreciate it.

you need to let me know what your problem is to start off.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=106929\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Sorry... Firefox starts to run, but prompts me to select a profile. when I do, it says the profile is already in use, and quits.

here is a run down of what works and doesnt work for me (running Cacko 1.23 on C1000). These are the latest files from bam's site.

xqt-gtk-jumbo cramfs package   - Works fine, x11 starts, has it's on tab in qtopia.

xqt-apps.cramfs.zip               - apps work fine, abiword takes a while to load.
-slypheed, if i can configure window size to vga.
                                           - change font size for x11.

xqt-mozilla.cramfs.zip          - NOT working. this is the package I really wanted, but it
                                            doesnt work for me

In general after reading this entire thread. I'm seeing alot of the same. It seems alot of us are having problems getting firefox and thunderbird working from the mozilla.cramfs,  But on the other hand, those that go on to install the debian package are meet with success with firefox, and thunderird (assuming they got debian working).

It seems the general concensus is using the cramfs, over the ipk packages is effortless, but not all the cramfs packages works (mozilla broken for me).

So, anyone got firefox and thunderbird working in X/QT WITHOUT installing pocket debian?  I'll like to hear from you.

FYI  - I found that the /etc/fstab had some  wrong paths. I deleted them, and reinstalled xqt-jumbo package with success, In case anyone else has that problem.

I downlaoded the crams images off bams site.  everrything sort of works.  mozilla and thunderbird does not work.  java does nt work.  openoffice does work but wont launch because it states i have permission denied.  any help can do.

the previous version i had no problems launching openoffice and mozilla, thunderbird never workes.  the apps do work though.  i do have a better expirience withthe xqt jumbo crams image.  does not ask for lost libs or anything.
---------------------
update...my bad.

runxqtoo

i was running

runoo

thanks.  openoffice is working like a charm.  takes a good while to load and loads like a charm.

Cresho, can you elaborate on how you fixed/solved the problem, I think I am having a similar problem.

I've installed the xqt-gtk jumbo ver 0.4.6-0.72, I've read .73 is available from bam's site but I wanted to try this first. I've also installed xqt-mozilla 0.1
when I try running firefox, either from the icon in qtopia, or "xlauncher firefox" in the console, it will start up, but when I select the default profile I get this:
"firefox cannot use the profile default because it is in use please choose another profile or create a new one" also I get this at warning from the terminal:
"GDK warning **: locale not supported by C library"

Just some background - I just got my C-1000 from pricejapan, installed Cacko full version 1.23.  I installed the jumbo pack, and mozilla cramfs into my flash memory, I read somewhere this worked if I have 40+megs free which I do.

I pretty sure this a a noob question, but I've scoured the forums, and this post seems closest to my problem.

Thanks meanie  for this great package, I might try the debian distro, after solving a few more problems and tweaks. Thanks in advance.

I spent the weekend using the Ambicom WI-FI card instead of the Socket card with my 760.  For what it is worth, I definitely prefer the Socket card.  the Ambicom juts out too much, drains the battery quicker, and also was a lot more finicky than the Socket.  Sometimes it wouldn't suspend/resume properly and sometimes I had trouble getting an IP Address.  I never have these problems with the Socket.

Thank ThirtyOne, I'm going to order one today.  Are you using the Sharp/Cacko rom?

Thanks Cresho.  Is there a way to install more than one of your themes? BTW, the oslinux them ver1.5, do you plan on finishing it?

I love mplayer, other than space constraints, no need to re-encode video files. is Vlan available for Cacko or Sharp rom? I noticed it's in the pdaXrom feed.

I'm still unsure what wifi card to get, I'm debating between the socket (lower power consumption) and the ambicom (small profile). any suggestions? anyone have both and care to share which is preferred?

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=106601\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Why did you select these two cards? I prefer the symbol card ( and also have an ambicom). It is smaller than the ambicom and needs less power...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=106620\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

The price is why I've not considered it.... most online stores have it  over $100, while the other two are sub $100. If you have  any links to a reputable site, selling it sub $100, please share I would consider getting it.

I have both.  I use the socket in my C-series and I have been happy with it so I have not tried the ambicom in it (it is in my 5500).  I will try it this weekend and let you know my preference.

Thanks for the quick response.

I just localized the Zaurus to english!, on to the fun. took me 5 minutes and google for save the chages to the config file in vi. First thing on the list, if i'm going to be using the terminal, install a more user friendly text editor

Hi,

I'm a new and proud owner of a Zaurus C-1000 from pricejapan (found them on this forum). I've been reading the forums for the past few months. Thanks to everyone's comments, I think I know where to start.

I'm still unsure what wifi card to get, I'm debating between the socket (lower power consumption) and the ambicom (small profile). any suggestions? anyone have both and care to share which is preferred?

I'm going to play with the default Sharp rom --> Cracko --> Pdxarom to figure out which one I prefer.

BTW, the link for Zplayer frontend does not seem to be working, anyone has a working link, or direct me to where to download? Most people mention Kino2 with Mplayer, but I want to try Zplayer also....

Thanks everyone,

Carl
