It also might not be the battery, but the charging circuit.

General Discussion / Help!, My Z Is.. Dead?
« on: October 06, 2006, 08:36:38 am »
Thanks for the answer

Well, yesterday night i tried to boot her into the Diag Menu (D+P+Reset) and she woke up (jay!!), i made some checks and everything seems to work, but then i noticed something, when i plug the power cable out the thing dies again, so.. it seems like the battery may be the problem.

That would be weird because when the Zauri stopped working that battery was almost new (~1.5 months), it's a shame i already disposed the old battery.

Now I'll have to either buy a new battery or find someone who can lend me one to test my Z (not very likely....).

Hello everybody, my problem is as follows: i'm the happy owner of a SL5500 since a long time ago, during that time i have used many
different roms like cacko's one an OZ whitout problem, about a week ago i finally decided to install OZ 3.5.4, everything went whitout problem
and i was very satisfied with OZ, then, some day i get home and place my Zauri in the craddle to charge it and suddenly the two leds turn on!!!

I panicked and then removed the zauri from the craddle and then the lights turned off, but it seems like the harm was already done...

Now the zaurus doesn't turn on not matter how much time I keep the button pressed, I tried to flash the thing again with other roms
and every time it looks like the flashing goes alright (two leds turn on, after ~3/5 minutes they turn off)but is the same... she doesn't wake up.

Help, Please

Hi everyone, i have been trying to run some emulators in my 5500 (gb, nes, snes) and have had little success, it seems like there aren't good emus for the 5500/5000 series or something is missing in my system because in the most of cases the program just don't start o crashes after loading a game.

So, i would like to know if somebody has been able to run some emus and how to do it

 Cya..

Maybe if you're in the mood some day, you might put an options section in the GUI that allows input of those kinds of command options.[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=87890\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Actually I was a bit in the mood today and fixed/extended config handling a bit. So the next version will at least make it possible to configure those things using an editor on the frontend's config file. And if I really get adventurous, I might even add a dialog for it

Best regards,
Chris.

It works great!!, i was almost giving up when i found out about your version of VLC, great job man.

If it weren't for the random messages about not having enough memory it would be a perfect experience, well, i guess i'll have to swap the actual rom with one that supports more than 32m of RAM.

PD: Is there a way to make the video skips a little shorter? (when pressing up or down), right now they are of about 1 minute, and when i want to watch a scene more than once it becomes a little frustrating

5x00 General discussions / Sl-5500 Battery Life

I recall reading somewhere in my sl5500 manuals that the battery is good for about 400 charges.  The number of charges is apparently a more critical factor than the number of hours of use.

Now, what _isn't_ clear is what counts as a charge.  Sometimes, as in after doing a soft reset, the charging light comes on even though it's been running on wall power via the adapter the whole time.

Don't know whether it's the number of times the light comes on, or the number of REAL charges that's important.  Anybody know?

TIA,
sdjf

400 Charges?? Ops, better to start looking for a new battery

I think they are talking about "real charges"

I already built my own power pack with 8 x 2500 Sony AA batteries, an works pretty well

It seems like my Z's battery is giving it's last breath....

I would like to know what is the aproximate life span of the original Sharp battery.

Reading this thread i have started to seriously think about building my own battery pack, because Sharp Battery is not that good (and its expensive).

I already read the thread about the Sony LIS2106 battery pack, it really is cheap-but-powerfull alternative.

The only thing that i dont like is having the battery attached  to the Z with a rubber band

Does somebody know about a smaller alterbative to the LIS2106?

http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/cate...T-43&type=store

 Give a look to that.

I found a site with cheap original batteries on sale:

One thing to check R you using a MS box to push the files onto the Z with Samba?

If so do you have the hide file extensions set in explorer.  Your zImage may be zImage.bin on the CF card.

Yeah, I double-checked the names, ls -la doesn't hide anything

I'm sure the fault is of the 512 CF.

PD: Is there a minimal opie package that I can fit on a 8mb card?, i can add more software later, i just need OZ working...

Not Opie, but you might be able to fit the bootstrap image on a card of that size - it's a text-only single-user interface though - then you'd need to install opie on the top.

Hmm, was thinking about doing that...but its to much work and i don't have so much free time... I'll better look for another CF.

 Thanks anyway.

... I have read quite a lot of stuff in the last 4 hours and can't find the reason why the Z can't be flashed.

I'm starting to supect from the CF card, as I said before its a PRETEC 512MB Industrial.

I even reformatted the card as they say on the OZ site tutorial (mkfs.vfat -F 16 /dev/hda1) but its the same.

Has somebody flashed the Z with a 512mb Card?
Has somebody flashed the Z with a PRETEC 512mb Card?

I have another CF but is a 8mb one....

Is there another metod to flash the SL-5500??

UPDATE: It seems like the problem is the 512mb card, i tried to flash with the 8mb card without any files and the leds turned on, keep like that for 4 seconds and then turned off, that means the Z recognized the card but couldn't find the files. I did the same test with the PRETEC card and the leds started blinking.

So, I have concluded that I'll have lo look for a 16/32/64 older CF and try to flash from it...

PD: Is there a minimal opie package that I can fit on a 8mb card?, i can add more software later, i just need OZ working...
