Archos forum / Archos Av700

Just got my husband an Archos av700, what is the easiest way to load movies and tv shows onto the unit. I'm getting conflicting info from archos tech supprt.  Set up shows on my yahoo, my calendar then tried moving files onto archos ( I have an Imac), archos said that yahoo feature no longer works.  The long and short of this is that I'm having trouble getting video content onto unit.  I'm not that tech advanced,  Any help, advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi I bought an Archos 700 just before Christmas and had problems getting movies onto the system. tech support was moderately helpful but this forum helped a lot. This may help you. If you have a microsoft media centre and want to transfer movies from there to your Archos, after downloading via the usb. you will find that archos does not recognise the file. In their blurb there is a veiled reference to Media player 9 and 10 but what they do not tell you ist that Archos must be in Windows Mode before it will accept the files. Solution if you want to download from Windows media centre 1. Transfer files of recorded movies/tv progs etc to your WMP 10 and this will convert the files to Archos acceptable. If you do not have WMP 10 download it earlier versions are not so easy. Now straightforward downloading from the TV I download via the Digi box by using the scart lead converter to av1 out to av in on the pod and then av out to scart on tv set in my case the bottom one. The picture should then show on your Archos screen. I have tried to be as simple as possible but experimentation is the thing. Good Luck jc.

Dear Forum, I have just purchased the Archos AV 700 mobile  DVR and find everything okay, until I transfer recorded programs from my Media Centre XP 2005 to the 700. The files transfer but Archos does not recognise the file types. I am a non-tech. person. is there anything I can do to convert the files or some software I can purchase ? Any replies please in straight forward speak. Any suggestions gratefully received. Merry Christmas all. Regds jc. UK Time 12 45 am.

Try downloading divX and passing the files through it to convert them - might work -won't hurt.

Archos forum / Help - Wmp10 Synchronisation Of Playlists

Hi, I'm a new user of WMP10 and have an Archos 700. What I would like to do is build playlists on WMP10 (PC) and then synchronise the tracks AND playlists to the Archos......seems simple enough, yes?

So - I build a test playlist of 20 tracks across a number of albums on the laptop, attach device, set up synch and click "start". The 20 tracks all go across to the mobile device, but the playlist does not?
So - I am left with 20 tracks that I have to manually create a playlist from on the Archos?

Also tried saving the playlist as a .m3u and dragging across. Of course this does not work....no doubt it is looking for the files on the laptop, not the Archos.

Am I just flipping stupid ??   

Thanks for any help. Hi Simon I am new to Archos 700 also however when I synched my albums etc from Media 10 Archos picked everythin up including playlist album details etc. I dont know wether this was just a fluke or what. Not much help but for your info. regds jc

Hi all, I hope everyone had a happy Christmas or whatever feast they follow. Question 1. How can I download Microsoft Media Player 10 to my Archos. Reason. In their package blurb Archos refers to 10 as enabling you to watch video files etc. from microsoft. On my Archos I have a file which is titled Media player 9. However when I try to open this a message states "File not recognised" so what is it doing there in the first place. I presume perhaps wrongly that this was a preloaded file with the package. Archos are a little scant with their explanations. Another file which baffles me is titled "Asian Fonts" but again when I try to open it "File not recognised " pops up. Can any one help please? perhaps I am missing something very obvious because I am a technoid`.  Regds to all, jc.

Hi there, Archos provides various 3rd party softwares. For my AV500 (not too sure for 700) on the start screen goto Browser then Data and installation softwares. I guess the software there are what you mentioned. Those are provided for you to install into your PC not on Archos.Thanks Tat2sailor for your rapid reply its made it clearer. regds jc.

2.5 Foreign Character Sets You have the option of displaying file names, folder names, and music tags in various character sets (ex: Korean, Japanese, Simplifi ed Chinese, etc.). You can find the language files CodePage_name.4FZ in the font folder under /Data/Foreign Fonts on the AV 500 hard drive or on the ARCHOS™ website under the heading Software. If, for example, you would like to have the Korean language display, then you would copy the file CP949.4FZ into the folder /system on the AV 500 and shut down and restart the AV 500. File names, folder names, and music tags written using the Microsoft® codepage for the language will now be displayed in that character set. Only one .4FZ can be used at a time, thus you should only put one .4FZ file into the /system folder. When an .4FZ language file is used, the interface language will be set to English.

I do know that xp/media center records programs in a MS encoded format that limits playing to media player 10. There are 3rd party apps that can recode the programs (Nero recode and one from Sonic), but I have few details on them since I"ve given up on xp/media center and installed Suse/MythTV.

That said it may be possible to use windows media player to transfer and recode the video to the Archos (assuming the correct wmp plugin exist).

you can also use my zaurus tutorial to create a video npeg 4 and play it in the archos.....yey movies!!!!!!

Thanks Mark i will explore> i have to admit that i am getting slightly frustrated with the XP media centre and not being that bright in those areas got hooked on the marketing material and bought a PC with it installed. It is not until you get one that you realize that there are others that can be installed. Regds jc.

use your pc and convert files to mp3 and load to archos.

Hi Tommo, I just purchased an  Archos  AV 700 40GB and I connect direct to the pod. Unfortunately the only way I can record is through my DVD recorder. How I record is as follows. Get the display screen up. Navigate to Video Corder press the okay button and a window will come up stating "Detecting Video" or " No imput Signal" if it is the latter you have to start looking at your connections. If you get a signal you record. One thing which threw me was the recording stopped after 2 hours. I discovered that this was due to my " contextual setting parameters" you reach these by pressing the little button on the right hand side of the recorder and navigate to Contextual settings once you get there the window explains what to do, and how to set up for auto record etc. I hope these suggestions help. I found the built in instructions pretty useless and went direct to the archos website. The other point worth mentioning is that my Archos does not recognise file from my  Windows  Media centre  and today have a post asking if anyone can help me resolve this problem. Like yourself I am in that age group and not technical at all. Regds jc.
