Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Iptables Kernel Modules For 3.5.4.1?
« on: September 04, 2006, 01:54:52 am »
Update: added a bugreport

I can't find them either. I've a C3100 running 3.5.4.1 with iptables installed, but the kernel module is missing from the feeds (well, okay, I can not find it).

no iptables-module-*
no kernel-module-iptables*

Anyone?

Thanks,
Bart

OpenBSD / Openbsd Wannabe
« on: February 22, 2006, 03:07:24 pm »
Thanks, that at least does seem relatively easy to do. But do I understand it correctly that it will always first boot the Linux kernel and then (with the help of some rc scripts/insmod) boots OpenBSD? If so, is this a temporary solution/hack or am I missing something?

Regards,
Bart

Hi,

Could someone please explain in a few easy steps how to install OpenBSD on a C3100 that is currently running pdaxrom? Yes, I did read the INSTALL.zaurus but I don't have a tape drive anymore  ;-)

[no dual-boot, full 4GB useable]

Thanks,
Bart

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Illegal Instruction (firefox/thunderbird)

Latest FUSE doesn't compile with the kernel used in pdaxrom.
you need a newer kernel for this (ie 2.6).

The other solution I found loop-aes requires recompiling the kernel, and some other low level utilities.

I have once compiled what was required once for the 860, but it never tried it....

I used cryptoloop before (kernel >= 2.4.22), now I'm using dm-crypt on my (fedora) laptop. But as you know it requires a >=2.6.4 kernel. The OpenZaurus project has a (experimental) 2.6 kernel for the C1000/C3100. Maybe that is the way to go. Personally I don't like the EncFS/FUSE solution because it shows filenames/sizes in plain. I would prefer the encrypted device solution (for the hd). But I can only guess about the performance impact on a Z. And what to do with the internal flash/ram?

newbie warning.

C3100 with 1.1.0beta1
from XQt experimental feed: thunderbird & firefox

i was hoping to show ofF my new 3100 at work next monday, but all the interesting apps seem to fail. gimp, thunderbird, firefox. the last two fail with an illegal instruction while trying to execute "$PROG" $(1+"$@"} in mozilla startup scripts in /usr/lib/...

the XQt feed should be suitable for my Z, yes?

Thanks,

If u are running pdaxrom install firefox/thunderbird form the actual cXX00 feeds/ cXX0 feeds, not from the X/Qt feeds.

look under zaurus c3100 for the feed links:

Thanks. Phew ... those work. I have 2 C3100s. The original Sharp ROM couldn't impress my colleguas with all that Japanese unreadable text. Maybe I will flash the other with the Cacko ROM just as a comparison.

Now I have to start looking for the options for encrypted filesystems. I've seen one thread, but no results yet. Looking for one with a token in the SD card slot. Maybe in combination with FUSE.

We hardly got any donations and banner clicks - don't get enough funds for normal pdaXrom development. Please click and donations.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=108905\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Come on guys, please donate !
A monthly contribution would be great.
We had the same discussion not so long ago, where are all these promises about donations ?
Aren't you amazed by all the work the team is doing ? by the power, stability, the many packages available of the X rom ?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=108934\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Just did
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=108965\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
On thursday, I got my C3100. On friday, the server went down. Luckily, another board member (adf) offered the akita rc12 zip. When the server was up again I downloaded the whole stuff - just to be sure - and the bandwidth probably dropped a little more because of that. Today I finally spent some time with it - and yes - all that effort that went into pdaXrom certainly is worth some money - as are all the efforts of the original package owners/holders. That is why I donated $20.
But I don't use the Z to make a living. It is "just" a gadget like so many before it. It will soon be replaced by something "better" ... probably a smart(voip)phone ...

sorry... new processor, was overheating. it should have gone up by now...
but it hasn't.

I'll get it tomorrow.
Been tech hell here:
thought my wifi wasn't working
then thought it was the router, 'cause it was acting strange (updated the firmware and reset everything)
My isp for the whole state went down while I was redoing the router--the router started acting up just before the whole thing went down

Got that more or less fixed..but could be cable issues (cable modem) been having a hard time getting the file uploaded. (have space at lunarpages)

meanwhile back at my desktop (where the needed repository is stored).... random crashes... (new cpu new vid card) thought it might be power supply.... turned out to be heat (I'm not overclocking or anything) took most of the morning to get that sorted out ( I currently have a case fan suspended above my cpu). All during which I was trying to setup a win2k partition so I could play a game (yeah... win is good for that at least).  Interestingly, the same system seems to run about 3-4+ degrees C  hotter in Win than in Debian. weird,  huh?

So... sorry about the file being only partial, but it's been a bit of a ride for the past 24 hrs.  it'll be up tomorrow

Merry Christmas all!

Well, success! I'm pretty sure computers hate us too. They always seem to crash at the most inconveniant moments.

Btw, Wine is not an option for your game(s)?

The 3100 model specific feed is going up now.  The tarball can be found at anyerlildog2.com/zug (haven't checked it as it is still going up)
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=108412\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Something went wrong (I tried it twice - binary):
gunzip: 31cfeed.tar.gz: invalid compressed data--format violated

file 31cfeed.tar.gz:
31cfeed.tar.gz: gzip compressed data, from Unix, max compression

what kind of speed are you getting?  Supposedly it should be pretty good....
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=108406\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

My ADSL is (only) 1.5 Mbit/sec download. It took only a few minutes to download the 44MB zip file. Seems pretty good.

I successfully flashed my Z with your file.  A strange "cramfs bad magic number" while booting for the first time scrolled by, but that didn't seem to cause any trouble. I will look into that later.
The Z seems to be up and running fine.

Thanks,
Bart

You have somplace to send it?  I can put it on my server in the morning... assuming I still have it
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=108332\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Please do! The site is still down.

Maybe on a public/anonymous ftp site?

Thanks,
Bart

Too bad. I just got my C3100 and now I can't download the 'kathrin-rc12-akita.zip' anymore because the site is down since yesterday, and even al'mighty Google can't find a mirror for the akita rc12.

Any help? Any mirror? The above mentioned mirror has the feeds, but not the zip for akita.
