General Discussion / Av 700 - Playlist Halting Problem - Hint
« on: April 02, 2006, 04:51:50 am »
Hi all,
just a quick note - I used to occasionally experience the AV700 powering off within music playlists, either a created playlist or an album. After a few tracks, the unit would just power off.

Spoke to Archos Europe and they advised reformatting the drive and resynching with WMP10 to clear a potential file corruption problem. This appears to have worked.

Failing that they suggested getting the unit replaced by the retailer.

Gab2001uk.

Imtoo DVD Ripper produces excellent quality as you said but I am having problems, when it splits the DVD into AVI say three parts the last one always fails.

Can you suggest typical settings that will overcome this.

Cheers

Hi,
I am puzzled as to why the DVD is being split into 3 parts. If you have found the single largest DVD (.VOB) file as the main movie (assuming of course you don't want all the extras etc), it should just convert to a single .avi file. One option to look out for within rippers is that they often default to splitting to a single 700MB CD-R, so ensure this is not happening by finding and ticking "no split". As mentioned elsewhere, suggest a minimum 1500b/s sample rate for decent quality.

Hope that helps.

Hello All,

Don't know if I'm in the correct forum for question but here goes anyhow.
I've recently purchased an Archos AV700 and was wondering the best and easiest way to transfer some of my DVD'S to the player. Some people advise direct link up to a DVD player and changing bit rate settings for quality etc, and I've heard methods of converting DVD to DIVX and then transfering file.
Has any body had any experiences and found the best results?

I 'd appreciate any feedback. Cheers.

Hi - for what it's worth, I have used some DVD ripper software (there are lots on the market, typical cost about £30, I use Super DVD Ripper from Tinysoft as a friend recommended it), and then encode as per the Archos instructions at 2000b/sec - this gives a movie file between 1.5 and 2GB, but at excellent quality - easily watchable on a TV, and the Archos screen also does a good job at that level.
If you encode at 1500b/sec, movies such as The Incredibles are "ok". Personally at 900k the quality is garbage.

I sent a mail to customer support and they said I had to download a firmware update, and now everything seems to work fine.  This was for a xs202 but maybe it is the same for your player.

Thanks for the thought - I have loaded latest firmware updates and will see how that goes.

Hi headhunter994, if you're trying to record a higher resolution DVD movie to be viewed on the AV 700, my advice is you won't get much improvement as the resolution is restricted to the LCD display of the player.

If you compare the LCD display in terms of pixels counts of the AV 700 to the AV 500, they are almost similiar but AV 500 surpasses in image quality due to it's smaller LCD display.

7" LCD 480x234 pixels, 262 000 colours
4" LCD 480x272 pixels, 262 000 colours

Thanks for the advice

Headhunter994, just got an Av700 and am looking to store some films for travelling. There seem to be lots of options (e.g. buying software to rip from dvd to AVI to compress). I wondered how you had got on with playing straight from the player ? Only issue there appears to be size of file (5GB+) ??

Thanks,
Simon

Hi, I'm a new user of WMP10 and have an Archos 700. What I would like to do is build playlists on WMP10 (PC) and then synchronise the tracks AND playlists to the Archos......seems simple enough, yes?

So - I build a test playlist of 20 tracks across a number of albums on the laptop, attach device, set up synch and click "start". The 20 tracks all go across to the mobile device, but the playlist does not?
So - I am left with 20 tracks that I have to manually create a playlist from on the Archos?

Also tried saving the playlist as a .m3u and dragging across. Of course this does not work....no doubt it is looking for the files on the laptop, not the Archos.

Am I just flipping stupid ??

Thanks for any help. Hi Simon I am new to Archos 700 also however when I synched my albums etc from Media 10 Archos picked everythin up including playlist album details etc. I dont know wether this was just a fluke or what. Not much help but for your info. regds jc
