P.S the zaurus manual says you should always suspend the Z when plugging in or unplugging cables or cards - I usually do that so maybe that is why I haven't seen your problem

Really?  I never have and my zaurus didnt explode.

Ref the the backlight to the lowest setting, dont do this in cacko or youll get the bug where the backlight turns off, use only the lowest but one setting

I need to connect my Zaurus to a wireless access point with stealth and an access name with a space in it.  The wifi applet wont let me type space - any idea?

Edit it in the command line.  Or the easy way, rename the access point.

Which file do I edit in the command line?

John,

don't forget the -o options.  They may help.

smbmount //box/share /mount/point/ -o username=YouUserName password=YourPassword

btanoue
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=133838\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Just tried this and got:  Unrecognised characterset 866

Am I missing a dependency?

I get that too, however, it still mounts.  It seems to me that the smbmount included in the distro has that problem.

Unfortunately this is not the case.  It just sits there and doesnt work :-(

i did smbmount //192.168.0.5/open /mnt/smbfs

The smbfs dir exists and the open share on my samba server is as it says ie open/public.

You would have to somehow get CUPS working.

Possible? probably!  Easy? Probably not!

If you get it working make sure to let us know here!

Sharp ROMs / Kphone Performance/'sticking'

I am having a frustrating time with kphone on my zaurus sl-c3100

Connected over wifi with wep:  Installed kPhone/pi and set her up.  Everything is good - set up for sipgate.co.uk and use stun server because I am behind a NAT most of the time.

When connecting kphone freezes for a very long time, eventually I get a password box and log in...  Once in kphone freezes frequently before coming back to life...

So it kind of works, I just tested making a inbound call to it and it seemed to work well... Just tried to make an outbound call and my kphone is stuck for quite a while then a dialogue pops up but I dont hear audio for the call - neither can I interact with the kphone software - its locked (still).

In calls that I actually spoke to someone in my zaurus kphone seems to freeze from input frequently and the other person cant hear me, and I cant talk then itll be alive for a few mins and then itll go again, gets irritating.

Is there anything I can do to try and resolve these issues?  VOIP calls will save me a boat load if I can make it work before I go away next weekend...

Edit:

Just to summarise the kphone 'issues'

Start kphone, select the sipgate profile, short progress bar then a lengthy freeze of kphone.

After a little wait I see user/pass box, I enter my details and hit OK, kphone freezes for as long as it took me to type this so far...

Inbound calls seem to work fine.

Trying to make an outbound call:  File: new call - new box appears.  Type number and hit the call button: kphone makes a crackle in the headset freezes out for a pretty long time - I hear no 'you do not have enough credit *blah blah* message like I should eventually the box dissapears.

Sharp ROMs / Which Mplayer?
« on: June 15, 2006, 06:01:09 pm »
OK the bvdd-iwmmx whatever file works for me thanks for the help.

Ref the last reply, the iwmmx whatever file uses your zaurus accelerated graphics chip or something - I get better performance here with it.

On performance, try lowering that bitrate to under 1mbit/sec - zaurus seems to have issues over that rate, alternativy in the playback try enabling overclocking* I find the top turbo one will hang my zaurus, but the top 'overclocked' setting yields better performance than the lower turbo setting, I presume that the limitation on high bitrate videos is buss bandwidth or something perhaps someone will clarify.

*DONT BLAME ME IF YOUR ZAURUS CRASHES AND BURNS INTO A PILE OF MOLTEN PLASTIC I have however never had any adverse effects from overclocking my zaurus.

Sharp ROMs / Which Mplayer?
« on: June 15, 2006, 10:16:00 am »
Hiya I am reinstalling my zaurus C3100 on cacko lite and I want to know which mplayer to install for best performance and where from?

So far I have seen:
mplayer-bvdd
mplayer-iwmmx
mplayer-w100
mplayer-bvdd-iwmmx

So which one for best codec support and performance?  As far as I know I have mplayer-iwmmx installed but it seems to be different to the last one I had on my last install, as it wont play direct dumps from my tivo (mpeg @1mbit, used to play full speed when overclocked to 'turbo' mode before)

Any tips for squeezing the most performance and which mplayer to get greatly recieved.
