Angstrom & OpenZaurus / New Kernel Install

The kernel can only be updated by flashing a new zimage.bin (no need to flash the initrd.bin too).

Ok but where can we find the  zImage.bin corresponding to those module packages ?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Howto Modprobe At Boot ?
« on: January 19, 2007, 12:53:25 pm »
I would like to modprobe g_ether at boot, for network connections to work. But there is no rc.local in /etc or /etc/init.d ... Where is this "local" boot script which allows to make some personnal stuff like that at boot ?

Assuming you're okay, and you know you've updated your kernel & modules, you can remove/rename this script (sorry I don't have my Z with me atm so I can't tell you the name).

That's the point : how do you update the kernel ? Ok for the modules, they are populated with all the  kernel-module-* in the feeds, but I don't see how to install a new kernel version.
For instance, OZ 3.5.4.1 release is given with 2.6.16 kernel version, I want to update to 2.6.17. where to find kernel-2.6.17 corresponding to the  kernel-module-*-2.6.17-* found in the feeds ?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / New Kernel Install
« on: January 19, 2007, 05:08:30 am »
Hello. I installed Hentges 3.5.4.1 for my akita and wanted to upgrade my system, using the "testing" dir of hentges feed. But I get a very bad message at reboot concerning an expected kernel-2.6.17.
I understand that the kernel-image is not installed, but how can I install the matching kernel for the upgraded system ? Where to find it ? I searched on the mirror feeds but did not find anything. The only available kernel (zImage.bin) are the ones to use for installing the OZ releases.
Please give me some clues, I'm lost ...

Sharp ROMs / Wpa_supplicant And Prismiii Cf Cards
« on: July 25, 2006, 03:09:30 am »
Ok. I was completly wrong, sorry. There was an error in the wpa_supplicant.conf file. I don't know why, since it was in the last example of a network config. I simply deleted this part and all is ok. Sorry again...

Sharp ROMs / Wpa_supplicant And Prismiii Cf Cards
« on: July 24, 2006, 05:27:43 am »
Hello. I have problems like other people with cacko, with wifi cards like newer ambicom etc.... prismIII based. There is already a bug filed in cacko  bug database, and I added a contribution (comment) to that bug, but I also want to open a discussion here.
I found an openembedded bug that seems to show that such cards would cleanly run wpa only with newer wpa_spplicant version (at least 0.4.8) but version in cacko is 0.3.8 ...
That may be the source of the different problems here and there.

I was wondering how it is possible to update wpa_supplicant, since this is not part of an updatable  package in cacko ???? Is it necessary to update the entire system ???

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Adding A 802.11b To 802.11g

One easy way is it set the AP connect to the specific ESSID and/or set it to only look on the specific channel the 802.11b AP is set to...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=128423\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thank you for all answers. It seems that's not so obvious ...

InSearchOf : so you wire the 802.11b AP to the 802.11g, and using a different ESSID for the 802.11b, the zaurus should connect to it, and thus be connected to the network without having effect on the speed of the 802.11g AP ? Is that true ?

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Adding A 802.11b To 802.11g
« on: May 24, 2006, 04:58:10 am »
Hello. I read here and there all the problems people have with their zaurus and wifi 802.11b cards that connect badly to access points when in mixed b/G mode. They fix the problem by forcing b-mode only.
As I have an 802.11g AP (linksys WRT54g) that I want to keep as g-mode since I use it at max speed, I would want to know if it would be possible to add a 802.11b access point that would be connected to it, that would be dedicated to b-mode connections only, so that accessing my internal network with the zaurus with a 802.11b wifi card (like a planex cf11x or ambicom wl1100c for ex.) would not prevent from using the main access point as 802.11g.

PS : I ask this because I plan to buy a wifi card but I don't want to be bothered by such problems and am ready to buy a 802.11b AP if it can help me.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Usb Network Connection With Winxp
« on: January 27, 2006, 05:33:42 am »
Yes I know that there are other similar topics here and there, I searched though the forums, but did not find a clear answer.
I have a linuxbox (ubuntu) at home, and configured it properly for USB network connection with my SL-C1000.
Now I have a WinXP at work, I want to connect with USB network too. I don't have admin rights but can have it for install.
Here are the data :

1) I am currently using KDEPIM (KA/PI KO/PI) etc... on cacko ROM but may switch to OZ 3.5.4.1 when available and working. So I sync at home through USB netw. with Pi/Sync without problems. I think I will continue to use KDEPIM with OZ since I like the apps very much.

2) I got C1000 USB drivers, there are "serial" and "network" dir in it. What is the "serial" directory for ? Is it possible, necessary and/or better to install both ?

3) Is it necessary to create a special net. route to Z ? I already have a network connection installed for work, and connot change it : I guess it is necessary to create another route . Am i right ? In this case, are the following parameters ok ?
route to 192.168.129.201 mask 255.255.255.0 gw 132.168.129.1
What is the interface to choose (the netwkork card is already used by my intranet connection) ? I guess this is a kind of virtual net through USB driver, but where to find it? how called etc... ?
I once tried to install network drivers but I could not connect to  Z,  I think because there was no route to it.

Did I say that Linux is quite simpler to use       ?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / New Hentges Release Candidate
« on: January 17, 2006, 10:44:23 am »
It seems to be fine ! Suspends seems to work ... The only missing app is a media-player :-( .... No way to have a video player on this ?
I tried to add manually mplayer, kino2 from cacko, and zplayer, but it complains about libsl.so.1 not present, or an undefined symbol (I found a thread here about this and the answer was to install sharp-compat-lib, but sharp-compat-libs are installed (but there is no libsl.so in /opt/QtPalmTop/lib).

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Differences Between Hentges And Oz/opie ?

Do you mean that it is not possible for example, to add ipkg from oz3.5.3/feed even manually, and/or with compat. libraries or something else) ?

Well    thank you for your kind reply ... I think I'm going to test hentges ROM now . What would you advice for the C1000 ? T3 version from july 05 or the latest version you presented just today ?

Oh ! and reflashing a newer version would keep personal data ok I guess ... ?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Differences Between Hentges And Oz/opie ?
« on: January 17, 2006, 04:00:39 am »
I am new in Zaurus world and just got a C1000. It's nice :-) but I have some questions. I installed a cacko ROM and am happy with it though I would switch to opensource ROMS. I would want to try OZ/Opie, or Hentges. Is it functional enough (suspend, access to SD/CF, etc..) ?
What is the difference between the both ROMS ? Is it possible to use opie apps with this ROM (Hentges) ?
In case I would install Hentges ROM, would it be possible to keep data if I later switch to OZ/Opie ?
Is there a process to "upgrade" a Hentges ROM or a OZ/Opie ROM, like a "apt-get dist upgrade" thing in debian systems (well even it's a little more complex that would be ok ;-) ) ?
Sorry if my questions are stupid, but I am a little bit lost in all those ROMS etc...
