Accessories / Sl-5600 Ac Adapter
« on: April 16, 2006, 09:49:09 pm »
Hi,
I have sl-5600 and can't find my ac adapter, rendering it semi useless . Sharp didn't have it, and I was wondering if this type of adatper (a generic perhaps) is available at Radio Shack or equivalent?

Thanks...

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Openzaurus 3.5.4 Status
« on: February 09, 2006, 09:04:09 am »
Greetings,

I wanted to give an update from my test on oz 3.5.4 using SL-5600 (Poodle).

1) Opie --  if I cancel out when prompted before opie starts, I do get to a command prompt. If opie starts up, you just get a blank screen and it doesn't continue. Tried tests where I also cleaned out /home of remnants from a different rom (qtopia), neither made difference. Reason I did the above, is I think I saw a quick message that it found some opie environment or something similar and wanted to be sure that I didn't have anything from prev install that wasn't overwritten. I removed any ref to opie and also the /home, and reflashed again subsequently.

2) GPE

  a) Open Zaurus screen
   Init version 2.85 booting
  c) GPE 2.7 powered by open embedded screen (on for about 10 secs)
  d) screen starts to have typing overwriting this screen
  e) touch crosshairs to calibrate (get 5 of these)
  f) now replaced by black x on blank screen,
  g) using stylus over the x doesn't do anything, you can move the x across the screen but it also returns to the center after letting go.
 h) no subsequent screen starts up.

3) Bootstrap - didn't test this one out as I wanted a gui version.

All tested after regular rom update, standard procedure etc. Successful kernel, ro file system and flash erased, and then reset. Used very recent images from early February 2006.

Thanks
Greg

Hi
Running sl-5600 (poodle). Shelfed it for awhile, then recently took it back out. Trying out OZ (eager for 3.5.4), and played around a bit with a few other roms recently... Yourself? I'm open to lunch or dinner , dinner is probably more relaxed as everyone would have more time to talk, relax, and give those from further away a chance to drive down...

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Differences Between Hentges And Oz/opie ?
« on: February 06, 2006, 02:52:34 pm »
Thanks for the replies.

1) So I guess for CoreDump-> any way my results help in troubleshooting? Are there any commands or log files that would be of help to you in diagnosing the problem?

2) Grog -> could I test out the new OZ release to see if I can bypass the problem by shutting dow the power mgmt? Haven't received a link for the oz release of yet. Should be ga fairly soon though, right?

Regards
Greg

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Differences Between Hentges And Oz/opie ?
« on: February 06, 2006, 12:39:45 pm »
Hi
For the SL-5600, tested out Hentges rom. Still having problems with the on/off button, when pressing it, the display stays on (does not shut off), unless you do the battery trick. You also can't press on the display, it doesn't accept anything.
A second issue I found is that the time is off, and when you go to change the time, it doesn't allow you to do so, you get an hourglass temporarily then it disappears.

Earlier flavors caused errors when the cf card was still inserted, as when you booted it wouldn't allow you to enter anything, and the boot stopped.

I checked flashiing one of the opie roms to verify that the above were not caused by a hardware malfunction on my sl-5600 but the on/off , suspend etc worked fine there. Trouble is that distro didn't have a browser installed by default, laughs.

I understand its hard to test without actually havign the sl-5600. Has anyone else with a sl-5600 tested out the new rom, and had similar issues ? I'd also be interested in trying out the actual OZ but didn't get a copy of that as of yet.
Please let me know if you have seen the problems above?

Thanks...

I did put respond to the OZ release page for getting a copy of the new release, but I never get an email with the links for download for it. I waill wait until it becomes available.

Thank you...

http://hentges.net/tmp/do_not_use/Collie/kernels/

Hi,
Just being specific, thought I read where it was recommended for Hentges roms to use the latest for testing. I saw this directory, but there were Collie but no poodle.

Questions:

1. Can I use the collie kernels for the Sl-5600? It mentions to use the latest version for testing as the version available is from July 2005?

2. What are the differneces between zImage-collie-24,32,32,40,48,58,64? I see a number of kernel images for the collie and would like to understand what the differences are? If not applicable for the poodle, its more of an understanding point.

3. Are these Hentges roms pretty much the OZ ones, with some tweaks and extra applications installed? I haven't heard back regarding the ga of 3.5.4 and I am assuming that beta testing is closed out at this point for that.

Thank you

From changelog:

Please Note: This release still ships with Kernel 2.4 as 2.6 is not yet ready for a stable release.

Hi
running the sl-5600 (poodle), I'm assuming to use one of the collie kernels and it should work with this. If so, which of the kernels should be used?

Thanks./

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz 3.5.4 Release Date?
« on: January 30, 2006, 09:18:44 am »
Hi
I have poodle (sl-5600) and I'd be willing to beta test the new release. Just tried the 3.5.3, and had problems with the on/off and the unit wouldn't recover without a hard boot. Read lots of good things about OZ.. so curious to see if this fixes that issue, and perhaps some issues I've seen briefly with package management.

Thanks

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz 3.5.3 Vnc Server

Good point about ram for dest, yes I did specify ram, assuming you can specify dest for sd card of use the config file as you mentioned.

Thoughts on vnc server question for openzaurus??

Thank you for your quick reply to my questions.

Yes all on SL-5600...

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Sl-5600 On/off Key Not Working Properly
« on: January 30, 2006, 01:11:52 am »
Pardon cross posting, I'm new to forum and not sure whether this is more applicable to OZ/Common or the 5600 forum.. It's very important issue, as it is making my SL-5600 unusable as I am unable to hit the on/off key without a hard reboot...

Hi,
I just took out my sl-5600 and decided lets give openzaurus another shot, I had some problems with it before, but decided to give it a go, was using some offshoots of sharp rom.

Anyway its latest version (3.5.3 I believe).

1. Starts up, when I hit the on/off button on the sl-5600 it turns off, ok. I have a full battery, and duplicatable whether or not on ac power.

2. It does not turn on afterwards. I need to remove battery or move knob to replace battery and back again. The battery shows as 100% charged though, and if it was an battery problem should be ok when on a/c power. It isn't.

3. I have tweaked settings to ensure it does not suspend etc, but I can't turn it off either now. I don't remember this being the case on other roms but I haven't used it in awhile, never dropped it etc.

4. Thoughts on other things to try. The battery light (when plugged in is on).

5. One more curious note, the time/date resets to 2005 in April (I believe) after returning on, I can manually change or reset with internet check (ntp) but this happens after a hard boot consistently.

Any thoughts on this?

Thank you

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz 3.5.3 Vnc Server
« on: January 30, 2006, 01:06:30 am »
HI
Ive seen there is a fbvncserver from the sharp rom, and have read about others having some problems with this on the OZ distro. Is there a vnc server on one of the feeds? When I tried the fbvnc one, it needed zlib, and I think that there are incompatiblities with using the sharp rom, several posts said to use the feed on oz.

Also, when trying to use the oz package manager, it didn't work, with several errors so I was just using ipkg install packagename. Also didnt take ipkg -d ram package name

Thanks
Greg
