6000 - Tosa / No Sl6000 Display

Know this is an old thread, but have a couple comments anyhow.  First, the manual clearly states that the unit will not power on if the battery is low.  So, I think we have to wait until the charging light goes off, indicating that charging has been completed, before you try turning it on.

Second, I've had serious battery problems on my sl5500 because of droppage, finally figured out it's just the internal connectors for the AC adapter plug.  Will be writing a lot about this in my blog when I can take the time.

So, I'd suggest trying to charge a unit fully using the docking station as an alternative, to see if that makes a difference, especially if you drop your Z while it's plugged in to the adapter.

I'm concerned about their statement in manual that Tosa will not turn on if battery low.  That could be serious after there aren't any batteries being made, if it won't even turn on when on AC adapter, if I understand them right, it's planned obsolescence.

I have had very good luck with refilled batteries in a number of different devices and tools, I haven't had one done for quite some time but will check it out. One other issue is that one can not usually have a totally dead battery refilled, depending on what type it is.  Is there a model or serial number on the 6000 batteries?

Thanks to all (including loc4me for offering 6000 at affordable price)!!!!

I also want to thank all for helping, the oak for doing all the coordinating and or course loc4me for making it all so affordable. One more thing to address and that is to find myself a 6000.

I did forget one other person, thanks to InSearchOf for graciously accepting.

loc4me,

I've PMed you to find if you still have these.

I've PMed and haven't gotten an answer, not sure what's going on.

I wouldn't mind kicking in $50.00 to get InSearchOf a 6000 for development. Anyone else chip in?

Count me in....I've been considering buying both and sending InSearchOf one but lately my toy buying has increased to the point that my wife is starting to notice , if no one comes along I may still do that.

Hardware Mods / Stuffing Serial Bluetooth Module Inside C1k Casing

Probably all Bluetooth adapters work in Z without external power and probably no WLAN card can live with 150mA (actually, kernel gives 150mA, but overvoltage protection stops the current at about 180mA).

It may be easy to hack BT dongle and replace USB-A connector with USB-mini-A connector. But Princeton PTM-UBT3S may not be a good start point for hacking. It uses a trick to make it so small - the Bluetooth chip is located inside the USB connector in the place, where you can normally find the insulation plate. So it is a bit risky to disassembe it.

There are very few CF->USB cards, and I don't know, whether they work in Linux. It is very specialized and hard to find harware: AFAIK only SolarExpress® PDA II from Twin Paradox is in production. You can also find discontinued CFU1U from Ratoc Systems and discontinued Kernel concepts Systementwicklung Interpocket USB-Host CF Karte. All of them have the extender or special connector with "pigtail" cable.

Much simpler to buy is a CF->Bluetooth card. But AFAIK only one fits completely to the slot - pretty expensive Bluetooth CF Card from Socket Mobile, inc.

The fact, that my WLAN CF card has a large extension part makes me very uncomfortable when I am typing (it can even cause painfull bruise) and forced me to start thinking about another solution of connectivity.

And finally, Zaurus chipset (PXA270) has three USB hosts. One (OTG) is available in the external connector and remaining two are only inside the body.

What I am thinking of doing is basically  putting a two port usb hub inside the cf slot. The posts would be staggered so that the bluetooth and wifi adapters would just protrude a very minimum amount. Just enough so they can be removed. Just a recurring thought I've been having. Thanks.

So have you tried running it off of just the Z's USB power? I may be interested in getting one if it worked without an external hub.

Yes, does not work. Vanilla 2.6.23 rejects to power it. After patching, 5V voltage sends pulses, as Zaurus regularly starts it and stops due to overcurrent. (note that albert provided a simple hwmod to get >500mA form Z).

I tried to connect 5V from the Z power adapter directly to the dongle 5V pins. Then it started to work. (It's usable only for testing - it probably initiates short circuit protection inside Z.)

I plan to desolder the voltage regulator and try to connect 3.3V directly from the IOPORT connector. (But for such things I have to buy my own dongle.)

This is slightly off the present topic but would it be possible to add a couple of usb ports in the cf slot? If it is, then it would be possible to use the princeton PTM-UBT3S adapter which works in the Z without external power. One would, of course, lose the cf slot in the 3x00. On a 1000 it could be used internally where the HD would sit. I would like to do this on my 3100, what do you think. Thanks.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Usb "retail Plus" Wifi

No, probably not.
I sent cycle_55 one of the usb wifi adaptors and since he uses beta3 I was hoping he could use it.

I am at the present time not using it in the Z but in my wife's fit-pc with Ubuntu 7.10 and it works quite well. At some point i do want a usb wifi adapter for the Z and would be willing to pay someone to mess with the driver for me. Thanks Antikx for the adapter.

Linux Issues / Wireless And Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy
« on: January 22, 2008, 03:17:29 pm »
I am wondering if someone is able to explain this to me. I have a fit-pc on which I am using a usb wireless adapter and had problems getting it recognized. I then read that installing wifi radar would easily solve the glitch in Ubuntu that was the problem. As soon as I had installed wifi radar the adapter connected to a wep controlled router without me entering the wep key. I have a WRT350n router. Iwconfig shows the correct key entered I can not imagine how that could possibly happen as this adapter connected instantly as soon as wifi radar was installed. Thank-you.

Thanks for the C1000 instructions Cortez. I think they worked, I am just wondering what I am supposed to be seeing once android is loaded. Touch screen doesn't work and I seem to be stuck in portrait mode. Just wondering if this is what I'm supposed to see. Looks promising, thanks again.

cycle_55

You're right. What you see is the version 0.01   and much is left to be done. I focused on getting the basic version "as is" on different Zaurus models so more people can give it a try and see what Android is currently and form an opinion on what it could be in potential if more application become available. Bear in mind that the source code of the OS itself is not available yet, so it may well be that a lot of functionality (touchscreen, sound etc) is very hard to hack.

Thanks for the great instructions and it is great to see this running on a Z.

Does anyone know where I can get a Z nowadays? pricejapan seems to have stopped "stocking" them. I don't really want to buy via European or N American importers as I'm based in HK.
GeekStuff4U.com appears to have the C1000 & C3200 available.  I ordered my C1000 from them and didn't have any problems.

I have had excellent service from Conics.net for a couple of years now. Brett Bennett is very helpful.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / C1000 With Broken Screen

I dropped a mug on my closed C1000...
it was heavy enough to break the screen glass from outside... now I have a fully working Z (yes, even the touchscreen works as before) that just looks pretty weird:

[img]http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/9714/img2597sg0.th.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /][img]http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/4854/img2592iz6.th.jpg\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /]

Since I'm staying in Japan I thought about bringing it to one of the Sharp Service Centers here. I just bought it 3 months ago but then I don't think they'll replace the screen for free... but maybe for about 150 $ or so? Somebody knowing how much it costs?

How about replacing the Screen with one from a broken C1000 or C3200? Is it possible and if yes, more or less easy to do?

Or maybe somebody is willing to buy it? As I said before...it works just as before since it was closed when something fell on it, so the "Body" is perfectly working. How much could I get for it?

How much would you be asking for it....

Why didn't I think of that? It's much simpler/safer/tidier than the knife method.

You're a genius!

You're welcome, but genius is kind a a strong word  the plastic sands reeeely easily....use a fine grit and don't sand too much. Thanks.

I just got one of these batteries, and feel obligated to share my experiences. You do need to carve some plastic away from the terminals AND add some tape (3-5 layers of Scotch for me) on the back (side opposite the terminals) for it to work*, as has been reported. It feels a bit tighter getting it in vertically, but is horizontally shorter (hence the tape on the back). Haven't gotten around to testing yet, will report when I do.

*Works fine out of the box on my C750 (used to charge the first time as I was using the C3100 at the time).

I am using a couple of them and have found them to work well. Instead of carving away some of the plastic on the contact end, I rub it on a piece of sandpaper briefly and find that i get a better finish than carving with a knife.
