Sharp ROMs / Cacko Rom 1.23 Is Released
« on: April 01, 2006, 12:40:04 am »
Hello Anton:
Is it possible that we'll be able to install cacko on our sl-7500 in the near future? None of the present versions is installable on sl-7500. Even the sl-750 version doesn't work despite the similarities in hardware specs.
Thank you

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Can I Use Sl750's Battery On Sl1000?
« on: March 22, 2006, 01:39:57 am »

Hi all,

the SL-C750 was shipped with the EA-BL06 battery. The SL-C1000
comes with the EA-BL11 that has about double the thickness of the
EA-BL06.

So the EA-BL06 would look a bit lonely in the depths of an SL-C1000s
battery compartment
You should better look for an EA-BL08 or an EA-BL11.

Thank you,
It means despite the thinness it is compatible with c1000.

Well, if any of you is going to China, then you can get a 760 or 860 (not sure which one it was) for 3500 yuen. I just watched an ad on satellite TV which lasted a whopping 15 minutes advertising the Z. They also claimed they had 20,000 units in stock.

I live in china and all we get is either sl7500(about 2200RMB) or z1000(z3100andz3200are also available). I've never seen a 760 or 860 on any of the popular chinese auction sites. But the price of sl7500(with one year guarantee) is so good at this time.

Are the batteries of 750 and 1000 similar so that i can use it on 1000?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=118720\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
The BL-08 works.  I don't remember which the C750 uses.  However, I also have a 3rd party BL-08 copy, which works fine on my C760, which does NOT work on the SL-C1000.

Make sure it's a genuine Sharp battery, or it may not work.

It means that the shape is similar even if one mayn't work for the other, right?

Software / Can Mdict Be Ported To Zaurus?

Yes, If a dictionary reader that reads MDX files can be compiled then all Mdict dictioanries can be used.
It seems that most of the dictionaries are  converted from public available formats. Some are converted from freedict. All these are also available in bedic format.
It should also be possible to convert the rest to bedic.

Mdict is an excellent free dictionary reader with a lot of dictionary databases(i have 50 more but am sure there are more than that). But it is only awailable for MS PPC and smartphone. Here is the link for its official site: http://www.octopus-studio.com/index.en.htm
Can it be ported to mobile linux platform?

e. But i don't know if the Z version of it is similar to this x86 version.
Thank you tongue.gif

it's very similar, but:
- it uses by default another wm, though icewm is easy to install on the zaurus
- it comes with less software preinstalled (x86 comes with all the softwares from the official feeds preinstalled)
- depending on your pc, it slower on the zaurus
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Thank you. I did find that the x86 had enoguh software. But those softwares can be installed on the Z version, right?

General Discussion / New Zaurus Sl-c3200
« on: March 07, 2006, 11:33:32 am »
Just take a look at chinese ebay or taobao, then you'll know how big a market Dell and HP PPCs share. I don't believe that Sharp will enjoy a big market in china while Palm and WM are serving the purposes of english learners so well.
It is not a good idea for Sharp aiming solely at chinese market.

I live in china but i won't buy the Z for a mere electronic dictionary. It is too heavy for that. Its price will not be acceptable in too short a time while people are satisfied with much cheaper but better supported sl-7500.

Try the username root with no password. (that's what it is for the Zaurus pdaXrom)
Then type 'startx' after logging in to start X Windows.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=117297\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Yes, the "root" and "startx" worked. Pdaxrom is awesome. But i don't know if the Z version of it is similar to this x86 version.
Thank you
