Hi,

short answer: 87

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/...b0;hb=HEAD#l104

Regards,
mrdata

thanks for link... it isn't 104 rather than 87 is it?

Hi,

simpad                  SA1100_SIMPAD           SIMPAD                  87

mtype=87 for simpad,

-> 104 is only the line-number in the document mach-types

thanks mr_nice - living up to your name.

i'll keep looking to see if i can find a UK source but if not, I'll take you up on it.

I too am trying to get the SD/MMC mode to work. I did a "blue" wire mod. See attached

 I would like to test. Did you ever get it to work in the latest Angstrom release -r18 (or any for that matter). I am having no luck.

Hi,

the current mmc-mod-driver for kernel 2.6.24 in Angstrom -r18 is not working for now.
I have made new patches, witch works since 8 months on my own simpad.
This driver is in very beta-stage and no good example for clean programming, but it works.

Well, then we'll have to wait for Firefox Mobile (if it will be possible to squeeze it in for the Angstrom image). Strangely I could not find any useful info on Firefox Mobile.

Hi,

for info about Firefox Mobile you can look on

Much good concepts and ideas i think.

Hi d2a,

thank you for testing this image and sorry for errors inside.

siemens i-gate 11m and similar should work with newer autobuilder
images from http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unsta...tobuild/simpad/
current -> http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unsta...ad.rootfs.jffs2

not all modules are inside, the missing shoud be -> http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unsta...4-r9-simpad.tgz

the status from battery should work for sl4/slc without problems
-> xterm-console:
cat /sys/class/ucb1x00/ucb1x00/vbatt              (gives voltage of battery)
cat /sys/class/ucb1x00/ucb1x00/vcharger         (gives voltage from charger if present)
cat /sys/class/ucb1x00/ucb1x00/icharger          (gives "current" while charging, smaller values [28] show battery fully loaded)

and

apm   (gives status of charger present, battery status - capacity - estimated runtime simple)

small flash space is a real problem, i recommande mmc/sd-card mod ;-)
i use 1gb mmc+ and space is no more a problem for me

virtual keyb: please test en_GB.qwertytabletpc , with this, touchscreen should be no problem

wireless monitor panel utility comes with matchbox, i have no answer for that error yet

SIMpad forum / Simpad Slc Out Of Order?

still getting worse...

Using serload, i´ve installed the blupdater.img

After reset first everything looks fine. The linux penguin showed up! But after a while, it told me to connect the AC-Power to continue. I was a little bit confused, because it is and has been connected...

So I used hyperterminal with 38400 8N1 and was very asthonised to see, that whatever happens seems to be a mix of linux and the original bl? First the normal bl shows up. Then linux starts to unpack. But this part of the output is also mixed with parts of the output from the original BL??? there are also parts of the menu where you can erase the flash... ??? the programm stops with the message "unknown command"

By the way: using Hyperterminal whit 115200 8N1 doesnt work, btw. shows only nonsens when i hit the keyboard...

I´m a little bit frustrated. It would be very nice, if anyone has any idea whats the problem with this unit...

Next step will be soldering the parallel adapter and trying to reflash the original quiet old siemens boot loader...

Greetings

Silvester

Hi Silvester,

direct help is only with http://opensimpad.org/index.php/Get_in_contact -> #opensimpad.org possible.
I will be there today (16.05.2008 / from 06:00 pm -> Berlin/Timezone).

ok, I tried again. First coloured lines, after a few seconds bluescreen. After 15 Minutes I pushed the battery switch. same effect, first lines, then blue screen. nothing else. :-(

But if its normal for the simpad to boot this way, it´s perhaps a problem while booting. How can I find out? Should I try to solder a serial Adapter? If so, which one? The one with the lundberg Adaptor or direct connection between parport and Simpad?

Greetings Silvester

Hi Silvester,

you need a serial cable -> https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?s=&...st&p=174015.

If your pc run windows (98SE, 2k, XP...), try hyperterminal 38400 baud 8N1 and look
for messages from siemens bootloader.

If bootloader is okay and only your hpc2000/wince image is broken then reflash should help.
But for this you need the serial cable first.

Hi,

the only thing i can see is, that your STA: id=0x1f v1.8.2 is
overwritten with STA: id=0x1f v1.7.4.

Please copy /lib/firmware/rf010704.hex to other place and then delete this file in /lib/firmware/ .

Then this firmware-upload should go away.

Hello friends,

i have installed the new stable image Angstrom-X11-2007.12-R14 from 1.April.
The first test showed an wrong script under /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/wpasupplicant (from Ubuntu, it fails with sed of busybox not knowing --quite) get called.
So i just linked wpa-supplicant to wpasupplicant.
When i try to connect to my WPA-WLAN with an NetGear MA-401RA (Firmware PRI v1.1.1, STA v1.8.2), it will get no connection.
The cards is ok, under simpad i can connect to an open WLAN.
My interfaces looks like
Code: [Select]
root@simpad:~$ cat /etc/network/interfaces
# /etc/network/interfaces -- configuration file for ifup(8), ifdown(8)

# The loopback interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

     broadcast 192.168.2.255
     wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

and the content of wpa_supplicant.conf is

Code: [Select]

ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=0

I can see my WLAN with iwlist scan :

My router is an Fritz!Box and another embedded linux device, my iLiad (e-book from iRex) is working fine with WPA-WLAN.
I'm shure my psk is ok, because it contains only digits [0-9] like above ...

Attached is an log of the session with output of various commands (iwconfig, ifconfig, iwscan, lsmod etc.) and more content of /var/log/messages

Did anyone run succsessfully WPA with Angstrom 2007.12 on simpad ?
Or any guesses what else to try/check/do ...???

Best regards and thanks to all which work on Angstrom for Simpad

So can somebody help me and tell me ALL the steps, and downloads i have to do to get JTAG installed correctly.
E:Im using Windows XP
I have newer used linux, and now i should run somekind of emulator without exacting instructions

Thanks!

E:Now i have also ubuntu on my use , so if its easyer to install JTAG on ubuntu please tell me exactly introductions

Hi,

ubuntu ist the right way.

First read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingSoftware about install software.

Then you need openwince-jtag 0.5.1 http://packages.ubuntu.com/edgy/embedded/openwince-jtag.

Next your pc-machine need parallel port and modules for your kernel (ppdev or parport).

Then you should follow the the guide from http://opensimpad.org/index.php/JTAG_HOWTO#Flash_Procedure.

You must open a terminal (xterm console) and write "jtag" to start the procedure (also your bootloader should live
in the same path were jtag-tools started.

-> simpadCL.rom for SIMpad CL4/others

Hi , finally i got my simpad on eBay ( of course    ) , now just come home ...while I try to understand something.
I have read with much interest this forum and have visited various site.
The propagation of this splendid toy above in Germany unfortunately penalizes Italian like me , with poor knowledge of deutsche language    so , sorry for maybe usual stupid question .
My project consists in equipping simpad of a PCMCIA card with two USB
One to install a usbpen as memory flash with standalone soft + data (some memory limitations? ), in the other one usb bluetooth dongle . It can work with windows ce 4.1?
many thanks at all

Hi,

this project sounds funny.

But first: SIMpad had only one PCMCIA 16-bit slot and no CARDBUS 32-bit slot.

-> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC_Card

So this should not be possible, (all USB-2.0 "PCMCIA" Cards are 32-bit Cardbus for my knowledge), sorry.

Thanks for any suggestions and help

Oliver

Hi,

first: thank you for testing

second: koen's suggestion is to fill a bug report for such errors on http://bugs.openembedded.org

third: i called this error the sa1100-rtc-bug, and there is a dirty solution for simpad available , but is not included yet in oe -> SIMpad-rtc-sa1100.patch

This error comes while running /etc/init.d/hwclock.sh on startup or any other run busybox->hwclock.

Not everyone should have this bug and there is no root cause known yet.

So sorry and keep in mind, this is work in progress, not many developers are around who work's for SIMpad-kernel-2.6.

I will talk to mr_nice for future way to solve this error.

As of today there is a new unstable at the unstable images.

Anyone tried it?

Hi,

please test images again, with build date after 05.02.2008.

For opie-image there is a known error inside for missing wireless-tools.

Solution: install this ipk

SIMpad forum / Sl4 Serial Cable Question

Hi all,

I've had my SL4 for a while now, it's running the web front end for my custom music player box.

However, I've decided to take the plunge and try and upgrade it to Windows CE.NET 4.1, from the original Windows CE 4.0 (I'm a .NET developer so this would be a big boon for me).

I've done all the reading required, and looked at the pinout for the serial cable, and thought, no sweat, I can solder that up from a cable I can buy on ebay...

However, the cable I did buy on ebay fits in the slot in the SL4, but it's only got pins 1, 4 & 5 (out of the 12) that actually have 'metal' in them (if that makes sense) meaning soldering up the missing wires is gonna be impossible because the pins physically aren't there in the connector.

Now, did I buy the wrong cable? If so, how can I be sure that I cable I buy has all 12 (or at least the first 6) pins physically in the connector ?

Can someone point me in the right direction here?

Thanks,

-Jaruzel

Hi,

the original serial cable for SIMpad has the same connector like Mobile Phones from Siemens (S25, C35i/M35i/S35i, S45/S45i , SL45 ...).
This special connector comes from Lumberg.

The best way should be to buy a serial-cable that is compatible to this Phones.
This Lumberg should have all 12 metal pins.

Then you must remove the whole SUB-D plug (9 pol.) with case.
Inside there is the voltage-change-circuit from RS232 (-12V/+12V) PC to "TTL" (3,3V/0V) for Phones.

After this you take a normal SUB-D (9 pol) connector and must solder the right pins.

Thats all.
