Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Moving to SD... again.
« on: October 18, 2004, 11:54:31 pm »
Hello!

If you don't have it, you wont need it. It is used by bash, and since bash is installed as the default sh shell when you install its package, you wouldn't be able to boot since that lib ends up being in the SD before this is available (the module hasn't been loaded yet, since sh is needed to run the init scripts).

After a long time, I've been using another scheme of installing things to SD and using ipkg-link and I've been pretty satisfied, I believe you'll be too. I have almot 4Mb of / free, and I believe more could be released.

I believe you won't need to go the kung foo way any more.

OZ 3.5.1 is a show up of what OZ will be, a new kernel will break the chains to legacy we have for 5000 and 5500 devices. We just have to wait for a working 2.6.  OZ will be (and IMHO already is) perfect.

The OE team has put up together something Sharp was too blind to see, and unable to achieve. We should expect great things from OE.

C ya.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / usb connection failed to work on 3.5.1 ??
« on: September 27, 2004, 01:16:19 pm »
I told some time ago a simple solution for the problem.

Something is wrong with the bi module. I have two scripts in the suspend e resume of apm to rmmod and insmod the module.

Maybe 2.6 modules don't have such problems.

File /etc/apm/resume.d/R01sa1100_bi

#! /bin/sh
modprobe sa1100_bi

and file /etc/apm/suspend.d/S99sa1100_bi

#! /bin/sh
rmmod sa1100_bi

This can be done with pxa_bi too, I guess.

I set up a feed from my current ipk dir:

http://admin.di.fc.ul.pt/~bsantos/feed/

In case anyone's interested I have an opie based image with the following:

- No PIM
- bash (resolvconf needs it, though I still didn't check if it was working now)
- opie-aqpkg instead of package manager (stuff to sd wasn't working  )
- wireless applet
- subapplet

I'm willing to try to build images to anyone needing a special set of apps in a base rom.

General Discussion / VI: what\'s the big deal?

(...)it was the only game in town(...)

This is why I learned to use VI, because situations like that can happen, and then I got myself just using it for everyday file editing tasks.

Each one uses what fits best to ones needs, you can use an electric screwdriver, it is better, but sometimes there\'s only a normal screwdriver...

Accessories / Fat battery on the 5500/5000
« on: June 15, 2004, 05:55:39 am »
~$25? I\'ll try to find such a deal.

I\'ll try to gather more information on how to mold a new cover, and will post about it later.

I believe it does.

I was thinking in molding a new cover so I could use the bigger battery. I looked to the normal cover and it seems possible to make a cover to hold the bigger battery, beside the platic locking tips which could need to be hand cut.

Hi!

Has anyone tried to make a cover for the SL-5500 to old the big battery? Would something like that make any difference?

Does anyone have a dead big battery which could donate for scientific research?

I\'ll post sketches later.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Installing Apps on OZ
« on: June 12, 2004, 07:44:22 pm »
ehehehe

There could be apps you can uninstall from root and install to SD, so that you can free up more space on root. But if you install to SD, having \"just\" 500Kb shouldn\'t be such a problem.

I\'m pretty happy not having to do all that kung-foo to be able to install more apps, the booting lag was a frustrating too.

Despite the legitim frustration that Mickey shows sometimes, we should (I do) expect great things from future OE based releases. Faster, smaller, better and more applications. Getting all in one easily accessible location, with good tools for building, testing, and deploy apps, one can easily create their apps, or improve on existing ones, without worrying on how to make them work afterwards.

If just Sharp opened their eyes and supported the community and its efforts... (Maybe this site needs to have Japanese LOCALE, maybe Sharp Japan isn\'t seeing what\'s happening around here... I\'m j/k, but it\'s the only reason I find to understand the attitude allowed to Sharp/USA and Sharp/Europe... $/€/etc? Maybe...

General Discussion / Paper about WiFi (un)security...
« on: June 12, 2004, 07:08:10 pm »
It is pretty scary... if we think our bank, a shop you have a customer account in, the company where you\'ve been working hard the last few months developing an new product to be released as an inovation to the market, could be in that unprotected group...

People can\'t see that it\'s like having a RJ45 connector in the sidewalk connected to their network, but worse, since you can be pretty far away with an amplifier and directional antenna...

Skyline (after the Nissan car?! I\'m a Nissan fan...  there\'re no Skylines in Portugal): Do you use a Z, or do you use a laptop? I\'ll be making a mod to my Netgear MA701 card so that I have a plug on it, I\'m thinking in a 2,5 audio jack, but even that can be too big... Could be a mix, the Z for capturing and real time logging, updating the results to the laptop later, or with the sync cable or something...

What\'s your setup? What\'s the range of the pen test you do?
