Definitely cigar box-esque.  I had almost forgotten about that variant.  My question is did the casing material on that model get all gummy over the years like my poor Series 3c did?

No, it doesn’t. It had a non-rubberized super glossy coating.

Having seen and touched one of those “in the flesh” so to speak I have to say it looks way better in pictures.  It looks and feels like that fake plastic wood that Lincoln put in the Continentals in the 1970s.  Yuck!

This issue still seems to be a moving target as there is some conflicting info coming out. Intel hasn’t been very forth coming at all with the extent this affects their product line (could affect all processors going back to 1995 or not). AMD is not/is affected.  ARM is only affected in a small subset of their Cortex processors but, are they ignoring their older models like StrongARM?Basically, it is a real mess.

For Sale / Wanted / An SL-C3000 in Bern, Switzerland

Looks like it sold already.  Good deal.  Not like I need it after the wonderful (& famous) 3200 that I just received.

Based on my contacts in China the SL-7600C was never released and Tao Bao (Chinese eBay equivalent) backs that up. There are only SL-5600C and SL-7500C listed on it. I would love to get a hold of a working SL-7500C to see if the Flash update menu is in Simplified Chinese or English as I noticed that that loading and splash screens are in English.

I need to find a reliable broker in China to purchase an SL-7500C through Tao Bao like I have for Yahoo! Auctions in Japan.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / First Gemini Prototypes

Great I would love to see Debian on it.  I’m impressed with how far Planet have gotten the Gemini going in such a short time.  Getting Sir David on board is icing on the cake.

General Discussion / Anybody Tempted By The Cheap C7xx Models On Ebay

Hong Kong celebrated the Moon Cake Festival on October 5th. Most businesses close for the day to celebrate. Cameron Sino would not close their headquarters in Hong Kong because it would lose some major contracts outside of China.  Most distributors are scared of fly by night vendors on the mainland so to get more credibility they usually setup their headquarters in Hong Kong or Taipei and to a lesser extent Macau.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / New Pdaxrom Development

Actually, Beta 4 has the 2.6 kernel as well.  If you are interested in a bug fixed stable version of pdaXROM with a 2.4 kernel; I would recommend pdaxii13.  You can find it here.

Zaurus - Hardware discussion / USB/serial cable for debugging?
« on: June 16, 2017, 03:45:13 pm »
Yes, this applies to the entire Cxxxx series.  During the system board redesign, the 5V lines used for the serial port on the Cxxx were redirected to the USB host port instead thus leaving the Cxxxx series serial port with only 3.3V lines and it being downgraded to a diagnostic port only.

I seem to remember that the fellow who added internal wifi and Bluetooth to his Akita used the second cf port 5V power traces to run these added devices and he theorized that they could be used to up the power to the diagnostic port.

Zaurus - Hardware discussion / USB/serial cable for debugging?

Hi,

I'd like to find a cable for serial debugging for my Akita, to be connected on the user port on the rear. They are some different user port cables around, most of them are USB ones, but I don't know which ones can be used for serial debugging (I'm thinking especially for kexecboot debugging). The only one that I have been told to work is the CE-170TS, which is very difficult to find:

http://www.penguin.cz/~utx/hardware/Sharp_CE-170TS/

I have never been able to find one on the japanese Auction site, while many other cables are usually sold there:

CE-175TU: https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/j403797862
CE-UC1: https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/f214752315

Does anybody know if those can be used as well, or if they are only used for syncing, and if they are compatible with an Akita?

Varti
The Akita's serial port doesn't provide enough power to run those USB cables. Trisoft confirmed that as well. Only the CE-170TS can work with the 3.3v that it puts out.  There is one on eBay at the moment.  It has a make offer so you be able to get it for cheaper than that.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Contrib feed hosted on ibiblio is giving a 404
« on: June 08, 2017, 10:15:37 pm »
Hello Admins

As the title states the contrib feed for pdaXrom is giving me a 404.  I could sworn that I was able to access it a few weeks ago at http://distro.ibiblio.org/pdaxrom/download/contrib/
