Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Collie Oz-opie 3.5.4 Issues
« on: March 31, 2006, 10:53:48 am »
Got it working with SD, seems the problem with PM was the .nl mirror of the openembedded feeds.  PM's handling of timeouts is useless.

Changed the feed to .de and now it works

Now I have to see if I can make it into a useful tool

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Collie Oz-opie 3.5.4 Issues

Hi,

My collie SL5000 has been gathering dust for some time. Every time I try to get it working there is something fundamental in its failure.  (Sharp OZ - anything)

Anyway, with the release of OZ3.5.4 I decided to give it another go using opie

Flash Boot:
- DHCP using a D-Link D650 does not work, I have to give it an address manually
- Package manager fails with segfault on first run after each boot
- DE650 seems to go to sleep and break ssh sessions
- Otherwise OK, except for the fact that a 5000 is almost useless as it does not have enough memory to load any applications
- I tried scp to send the .bin image to the SD and found that it got gradually slower until it stopped, there appears to be an interaction between SD and CF.  Starts as 400Kbyte/s and drops to 15 before quitting altogether.  Never seen that with past images.
- Had to remove user parameter from fstab for mmcda1 or SD won't mount

Boot via altboot using distribution ext2 images on SD
- Can't run package manager - it just hangs, I notice that there is nearly no network traffic when obtaining package list.

Build own .bin from distribution .tgz image and use altboot to load as bin
- No colour graphics, no picture, no icons.
- Reboot, better this time, but still PM hangs

Run SD in file structure rootfs mode from distribution .tgz
-First attempt failed after the pivot (problem with insmod), re-formatted sd (used mkfs.ext2 rather than mke2fs - no idea if that made any differece) now I still get the PM problem anyway

Oh well.... Ahy Clues?

Or, perhaps it looks like I'll have to go back at cardfs and all the problems with packages that it causes (until I find I've wasted more time and once again put the thing on the top shelf to gather yet more dust)
Perhaps I'll have a go at building my own distribution and loose some of the fud from the distribution
