Oddly, the car adapter is L shaped, so it should fit with the travel plug.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=123652\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Wonder there's any wall charger that can fit with the travel adapter??

Find a universal wall ac adapter that has an angle connector. That's my plan.

Archos forum / Av 700 Tv Pod Connection Problem

The problem with a switcher is many of the devices do not allow an analog out if you are utilizing the digital options. i.e. the TIVO HD unit does not have any analog outs when using the HDMI option.  UGGH.  As far as the RCA outputs on my tv...I thought that was the simple solution.  Problem is that the only video signal that comes out of that section is the tuner, not the other switchable inputs.  I don't know why that is.  I guess I will have to find out from Sony's tech support.

Still searching for the answer...The only thing that I have come up with so far is to route all of my video switching through my AV Receiver and letting it serve as the AV switch....I am concerned about video degradation for my everyday use.

Ah, you are stuck in format connection hell. You would have to invest in a gang of digital to analog converters then connect them to an anolog switcher to route to the AV500 pod for recording.

Archos forum / Using Av500 For Video Storage Device From Sd Card

I would like to put the video from my Sanyo hd1 video camera, which uses SD cards, onto the av500 for temporary storage and possibly viewing.  Does it have a SD card reader slot?  If not could I plug in a Sd card reader into av500 and drag and drop data so I can continue to use my video camera w/ second card as 1st card is being copied?  Is it possible to view the unedited mpeg 4 files on the av500 or do I have to convert 1st?  If this is not best option for what I want to do, do you know better options? I would perfer not to lug laptop around and I need more storage space.

The secondary USB connection on the av500 is there to connect digital cameras and other devices to trasfer over media files. I'm not sure if your camera is compatable and I have not heard about any USB memory card devices that will work with it.  Check the archos site or google around to see if your camera has the capability.

I just purchased the AV 700 and am trying to hook the tv pod up to my av system.  I would like to be able to record from my DVD, DirecTV TIVO unit, and D-Link Media Player without having to change the cable from device to device.  Any simple suggestions on how to get the AV In signal into the pod?  I have each device wired into my Sony 42" TV through different inputs with my Satelite TIVO receiver utilizing the DVI HD input.  PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Visit your local Radio Shack and pick up a video switcher. Connect all your devices to the switcher and the output to the pod.  If your devices do not have an additional output get some Y cables and split them out.

Does your your sony TV have A/V out? You could route it to the pod throught the A/V out and record whatever is being routed to the TV.

Archos forum / Problem With Video Playback

hi guys

i have a problem with my Archos AV500 100GB and maybe you guys have some suggestions. The problem is i have converted some of my DVDs to AVI files to play on the unit. there is no problem with the files and they play fine on the unit......... however, some films end early. its strange bcos the file will say the move is a certain length (on the PC AND on the unit) but when u select the file, the unit ends the video file early. For example i converted the first "lord of the rings" and it plays fine and it states that the file is "2:51" long but when u select the movie, it ends automatically at "2:34".

this is a strange problem as i have checked the file on the PC, and it plays all the way through.... and when i transfer the file to the unit, it says it is the same length and size but when u play the file it just cuts early. is there a file size limit or time limit to video files on the Archos???? i dont think so, but then again i cant thinkwhy else this would be happening. any ideas would be great. thanks

Does it matter what the media length is? Long or short?

What codecs are these? Divx? WMV?

Do the sample movies that came with it have the same problem?

Are these movies you encoded?

Archos forum / Anyone Got (or Know About) A Gmini500/av500?

Hi all

I'm having no luck trying to get Archos to answer my questions, and after a bit of googling found you guys.  If anyone can answer some of these questions it would be very much appreciated.

I have seen on other players that although they have a large hard drive, they limit the number of files that the player will recognise to play.  On Archos' website, they say "play up to 20,000 songs".  Is this a strict file limit, as described just before, or is this based on an average size for a song divided into the 40gb of the hard drive?  If the latter is the case, is there any limit on the number of files the player will recognise to play (except for obviously the size of the hard drive)?

Does anyone know of a recommended way to store and charge spare batteries?  For example, keep them completely charged, or completely uncharged if they arent being used?

Are these models of players suitable to be used when going running?

Can they play avis and dvix video files, or will I need to convert them first? Is there a full list of supported video files available anywhere?

Similarly, is there a list of supported equipment for the USB host function?

I'm a little bit confused over the microphone.  I'm sure I read that it was built into the player, but have also read that its built into the seperate remote control.  Does anyone know anything about this?

Sorry for lumping it all into one big message, but I'm bound to lose track of them all if I was to separate them!

Thanks a lot!

I do not think there is a physical file limitation, you would have to copy a ton of files over to see what it does

There is no device that just charges batteries, your best bet is to charge one on the unit and pull it off to keep aside.

I'll be testing the av500 as a helmet cam recording device so I'll be stress testing to see how it performs.

Divx , yes. Avi is a container for many different codecs and you will run into many that will not play on the unit. WMV works also.

Not sure about those last two.

Hi,

The travel adapter works. The optical resolution happens to all protected DVDs.

Cheers!

Found it listed on Walmart of all places. Ordered it today so I'll have it next week. I'll hold on to it another few weeks, have 30 days to return =]

Hi all,

The AV 500 is a great device, the only complain i have is the placement of the DC in and AV jack. if you use a travel adapter, there's no way ur gonna charge the unit.

Do you have the travel adapter? The one that let's you record without the docking disc?

Answered my own questions

The travel adapter for recording has no ETA on availability anywhere, US or overseas.

The problem with TV playback is that the file is protected coming from a DVD player and macrovision so no TV playback.

I can't test my systems without that travel adapter so this thing is going back, shame =[

Howdy all,

My new company designs builds durable helmet camera systems for rental in the US. Currently I use Mini DV cams for recording  I'm starting to test and catalogue all my findings on PVR's . My first is the AV500.

MY first gripe is what technical support told me "you dont need the TV pod to record" That was a lie as most of you know.   There is no way to record tv by just plugging in the A/V cable. I've seen the travel adapter on a previous post but now I have to order it and for what? $50 or more? That thing should come with the unit. Has anyone bought one and tried it yet?

My first test was connecting a DVD to it and recording some content. I set up the video to record @ 2500K but it would not let me change it to VGA resolution it just said optimal, does the av00 know my source is DVD so it only allows lower resolution? After recording about 10 minutes I decided to try playback on a TV.  I could play back all the sample videos to the tv but as soon as I started playback of my recorded clip it jumped back the the av500 LCD. First under settings I tried all the ratio settings then playback, same thing, only on LCD. So why can I not playback on TV?

I have not tried an connection to PC yet, tomorrow i'll test one of my camera rigs using the stupid tv pod just to get some quality samples.

Thanks,

DVCake
