Just looking at Australasia, there are some odd features.
  • I suppose it's just possible that some iron ore mine in the Pilbara has bought a bucket of Geminis, but it seems much more likely the blob in the west is Perth, and is supposed to be a good deal further south.
  • Due east of it a spot in the middle of the Gibson Desert suggests kangaroo rats have better keyboard skills than I'd realised.
  • Further east again a blob in Central Australia might be employees of the US-Australian spy base at Pine Gap
  • There are four large blobs in the southeast. Three of them might be Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. The fourth is on an iceberg in the Southern Ocean somewhere west of Mount Gambier. Because kangaroo rats have nothing on penguins.
  • Further north is Brisbane, Australia's third-largest city and twice the size of Adelaide. Nothing.
  • Further north of that is the rest of Queensland. Crickets.
  • There are New Zealand purchasers all through the south island. But north of Wellington, where Auckland is and most of the people live, is barren.
In summary, there's enough funny things going on here that I suspect the whole map is a little wobbly. Perhaps the map and the blobs don't quite line up.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / C-1000 Conversion And Sync Problems

I will continue to add as questions come in.

Well, I'm pretty much entirely confused, so here's two questions.

I've just bravely bought a C-1000 from PriceJapan, i.e. it's still in Japanese. I have two problems, only one of which really matters to me personally, but both of which could matter to people generally. If anyone can help I'll happily accept assistance via e-mail or 0439989938.

Problem 1

My preferred instructions on how to convert to Japanese into English are those of [a href=\"http://www.wbcd.org/computing/zaurus/part_12.html]http://www.wbcd.org/computing/zaurus/part_12.html[/url], since they explicitly mention the C-xx00 rather than just the C-xx0. But they ask me to "Open the terminal", which I have no idea how to do on a Japanese Zaurus. There's an icon shown on the page, which I can't find. I suspect I'm being blind.

A possible workaround here is to use the Conics conversion procedure.

Problem 2

I can't get the sync to work while it's in Japanese: it obviously finds something, and the Zaurus reacts to being found, but "An error occurred during data communication". That means I can't download onto the Zaurus SD card as required by http://www.wbcd.org/computing/zaurus/part_12.html. I'm using the downloadable 5500 sync software, since it's Anglophone. Both Zaurus and 5500 should be on default connection settings, is that not good enough?

I can work around this by using my digital camera as an SD card writer, but the problem might still qualify as worth answering for others' benefit.

Thanks for any assistance.
