I've created a HOWTO on restoring a C3000 from scratch.
Other than hardware problems, there should never be a need to send it back for reflashing.
I hope it helps.

6000 - Tosa / Aircrack

I have source for it somewhere, I will dig it out.

The snag is that it needs a LOT of memory and will take a LONG time to work on the Z... you'd be better off capturing packets on the Z storing on memory card and using a heavyweight PC to run the cracker.

Aircrack is now Aircrack-ng.  See [a href=\"http://www.aircrack-ng.org]http://www.aircrack-ng.org[/url]

a SharpROM IPK of the latest version is on the download page.

If you need the older aircrack, pull it out of an RPM, like the aircrack 2.41 RPM at http://dag.wieers.com/packages/aircrack/ai...41-1.rf.src.rpm

I tried the first alpha of 3.5.4.1 for the spitz and I was disappointed that, save from a cool new bootsplash graphic, altboot and a few extra packages to choose from, little has changed. In fact, it generally seemed more buggy with only 2 out of the 6 or 7 packages that I got to install before I ran out of space actually working. The install instructions should really highly recommend re-partitioning your MD for OZ so you can at least get a basic set of packages on to do the common PDA tasks- at least firefox, abiword, xmms and gnumeric also need to installed and theres not enough room with the default partition map.

I thought that users which bought microdrive powered models know what to do when need some space... Looks like I was wrong.

* Maybe I missed it but it didn't seem that the panel applets for mounting cards and turning the wifi card on and off weren't installed by default. I think every Z user will want to install these if they're using GPE.

And I think that every Z should have firefox + thunderbird in base install... OZ has feeds, feeds has packages - is it reaaly hard to use ipkg??

That was more than enough flaws to send me packing, disappointed, back to cacko.

Uf.. one user to care less..

/me is tired of OZ work
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=129861\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

For many reasons I'd like to see OZ succeed.  Right now, from using 3.5.4.1rc4 on a C1000, I can see that there is a way to go before it's a 'normal user' distribution.  This is not necessarily a bad thing, now, primarily due to the other kernel 2.6 problems (SD card compatibility randomness, for one; Symbol Spectrum showing up as eth0 instead of wlan0 for another).  I for one understand your condition of be tired; I maintained the PostgreSQL RPM's for Red Hat and similar distributions for five years, and I got all kinds of user grief.  I finally just ran out of time to do all the builds (I was building half a dozen separate sets of binaries for different distributions, and a release took a full day's worth of building, and troubleshooting the build due to upstream brokenness).

On the subject of ipkg, the biggest 'normal user' issue I see is the brokenness of the GUI installer.  Which bugtracker would reports on the GUI installer go?  Honestly, the cacko GUI package installer interface is better: and it has its own problems.  Users want to know what package to install; while ipkg does work ok (it is quite similar to yum or apt-get on the desktop distribution side) one must know what package one wants first.  There isn't, as far as I can find, a way to get the package description in the current GUI installer.

If I could get the OpenEmbedded build environment working on my desktop I might be able to help some with this; but I'm up against the glibc binary locale generation issue (and I've set the local.conf variable that is supposed to fix that in org.openembedded.oz354x).   I'm learning what I can quickly about the way the buildsystem works, but day job load reduces amount of learning time, unfortunately.  The OE environment looks to be a wonderful system; I just can't get it to work here.

Isn't there a way to wipe clean the whole entire system memory before you try a new rom? that way there are no ghosts from other roms.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=128984\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

The Cacko updater can erase/reformat your user partition, too, along with repartitioning NAND.  FWIW, woud be nice to see a similar menu type updater.sh in OZ at some point.  If no one else does it, and if I have time, I might do it.

Oh, and on the boot off of SD topic, my 5500 does exactly that with 3.5.4, and it works quite well.  It is a little confusing, with two stages of altboot and two password questions being asked (once), but it works very well on my SL-5500 with a 256MB SanDisk SD containing a loopback image of 3.5.4.  Read the altboot pages (linked from the openzaurus wiki; let's see, [a href=\"http://openzaurus.org/wordpress/howto/the-altboot-faq/]http://openzaurus.org/wordpress/howto/the-altboot-faq/[/url] is the page; I followed the simple howto and it worked, lickety-split.

With the C1000 it's not nearly as big of an issue as with the 5500; in fact, Hrw, boot off of SD should be the default for Collie for OZ, as, like you have said, that 16MB is awfully limiting.   But I don't see why it wouldn't work just as well on Akita.

Now that I have two Akita's, my need for the Collie is pretty well gone.  Before I try to eBay it (that's where I got it), does any OZ developer want it, with the 256MB SD card and 3.5.4 loaded as-is?  I have a USB charging/sync cable and the cradle; I'm using the EA-70 power supply with my Akitas.  I'll donate it to any OZ developer that needs it, although I might need some help with shipping (particularly to Poland, although I might try).

Can you remember what those were? I can't :-(

Default, IIRC, is 64/64 even split.

Python / Python 2.4.3 For Sharprom

Ok, judging from the amount of responses, I guess there is no need anymore for the SharpROM Python packages

...which is ok for me since that removes a bit of pure volunteer workload - I don't use them since years.

I'll shut down the feed next month.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=128242\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Well, I just found the feed today, in fact.  The tkinter package doesn't work; can't find _tkinter.  I have a need to have it working with Cacko on an Akita; OZ 3.5.4.1rc4 isn't quite there yet (I have two Akita's, one, which I use for my primary is running Cacko 1.23 using the KO/pi and KA/pi set; the other is for development and testing; both are from eBay sellers).  I would use the python stuff for some work we do at PARI (www.pari.edu) using what we call the PDP2 protocol; it would be marvelous to be able to carry the testing client with me on my Akita.

If you do decide to blow down the feed, what tools did you use to build it, and where could I find them to do it myself?  (As I maintained the PostgreSQL RPMset for Red Hat for five years, I'm not afraid on building myself).
