Archos forum / Album Artwork

Hey there

Actually the album art needs to be embedded into the mp3 file itself. I've found that the best tool the for the job is 'Tag & Rename'. You can batch the files, rename them, add the artwork in, whatever you like. I do think the Archos limits the scale or the format of the image though; I've stuck with JPGs of varying size.

Just remember that it doesn't work like Windows Media player. Just adding in a jpg in the album folder won't work (and it's also a damn ugly way to catalog an album anyway). Also - I think you'll find that if you open one of the mp3s that does show an image on the Archos, you'll find it's embedded in the file too.

Excellent!  Thanks for the reply.  I downloaded the trial program and it works perfectly.  Great information, I really appreciate it.

Have had my Av500 100 gb for nearly a year now and still loving it.  Two repairs - one minor with the navigation button and one major - HDD crash.  Crossing fingers, but it has worked well for several months now.

I have over 12,000 songs, hundreds of photos, and over 175 full length movies at my fingertips (with my additional 120 gb WD Portable HD).  I keep all my songs on the Archos and rotate video in as needed for trips, but worse case I can play video from my external HD through the camera USB port.  So needless to say, I have plenty of entertainment available when I travel out of town or across town to a friend's place.

My question... I have never figured out how to add album art!  I have some albums that do display the artwork, but I can't figure out anything in these folders that is different.

Anyone sucessfully do this?

Thanks,

Tim

Archos forum / Clonedvd Mobile Updates
« on: November 30, 2006, 02:37:01 pm »
Anyone using CloneDVD Mobile?  I just upgraded to the latest version and the maximum file size (when you max out the quality slider) is about 1/4 of what it use to be.  I am curious to see the quality.  Either they have better compression or the softare version change is now restricting the quality.

The release notes have this comment;
- New: quality slider range now automatically re-adjusts to allow for
optimal video quality, depending on the devices kbps-limitation.

Maybe it automatically restricts the file size based on the limitations of the AV500??

Anyone know?

Archos forum / 120 Gb Expansion For Av500 100 Gb
« on: November 30, 2006, 02:30:21 pm »
On a hunch I bought a 120 gb Western Digital Portable HD to try and see if I could hook it into my AV500 100 gb USB A port.  I thought for sure the port would not have enough power to run the drive, but it does.  I can play movies directly from the portable drive.  I tried this out both on AC operation and battery and it worked well.  I do think that the battery would be eaten up very quickly though.

I plan to load the 120 gb drive up with video and reserve the majority of the 100gb Archos drive for music files.  This way I can take a large collection of video with me and play (with AC attached) most likely from hotels.  I tried a file transfer from the portable HD to the Archos and it did OK, just very slow.

Here is a link to the drive at Target.  It list for $179, but is on sale at $117 right now.

Archos forum / Pocket Dish Versus Av500
« on: October 18, 2006, 08:33:19 pm »
Recently got Dish Network.  Tried conencting my AV500 (which is basically equivalant to the Pocket Dish AV500E) to it, but could not transfer video.  Got a message that the feature was not available.  I see that the AV500 firmware version is currently at 1.5.12 and the Pocket Dish AV500E is 1.0.61.

Anyone know if this is just a matter of loading the 1.0.61 firmware?  Not that I would until Archos says it's OK.  Just curious if anyone has had this situation.

Thanks,

Tim

Same problem for me ... bad HD, replaced now all's well.  Is HD failure a common failure mode on these devices?

I had the same problem with my unit.

Seems that the hard drive is bad.  I had to send it back to Archos for them to fix.

I've just got the same problem, with an AV500 80Gb purchased in May from QVC, but very rarely used. QVC have offered a full refund (they no longer stock the item), but I was wondering whether it would be advisable to ask Archos to repair it under warranty.

Has anyone had any problems with a repaired HDD?

I would not see them repairing the HDD, but replacing yes.  May be replaced for one that had been refurbished by supplier.  Mine is currently at Archos now for a failed HDD.

If QVC is offering you a refund I would take that versus repair.  If you bought it in May it is probably cheaper now some place else.  I would just buy a new one.

Archos forum / Second Repair Of My Av500
« on: September 30, 2006, 02:05:33 pm »
Sent my AV500 in for a minor repair with the navigation buttons.  You may recall my previous post about the flaky right nav button.  Received the AV500 back after about a total of about 2 1/2 week turnaround time.  Not all that impressive, but it did come back fixed.  However, after only 2 weeks of use the hard drive failed.  I was finishing a business trip when I powered it up at the airport.  Needless to say I was a bit pissed.

Called Archo Tech Support right away and got another RMA number.  They sent me a shipping lable since it was recently repaired.  UPS Ground though, I had expected they would overnight it.

We will see how quickly they can expedite the repairs.  If they indeed expedite as they say they would.

My questions are - Anyone have multiple failures with their units?
Anyone sucessfully create a backup HD for their units?  I see several have discussed creating a back-up drive, but any luck?  I was thinking of buying a spare 100 gb laptop hard drive and using Norton Ghost to create an image.

i am connecting one av cable into the av out of the pod and the other end into the tv input. one end of the other av cable is plugged in the av in of the pod and the other end in the output of my dvd player.
helpppppppppppppppp

You will only be able to record DVD from what your setup sounds like.  Unless your TV signal is going through your DVD player somehow.  Play a DVD and see if detects.
If you have a TV output on your TV then try that into the AV in of the POD.  That is what I use when I record my HD channels that I do not get through my VCR.

Good luck,
Tim

I've voted "1" becuase I cannot get to their support site at all - I always get redirected to the Archos store.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=139416\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Click on the Help in the upper left corner, then click on Contact Technical Support.
They recently changed their site and it is AFU.  Sevral links are screwy.

Archos forum / Navigation Buttons

I have to say that so far I haven't had issues with Archos Technical Support.  However, the email automated support was crap as they suggested a firmware update to fix the movie run time issue - I already stated to them that I had the latest firmware.  When I called the support phone number (US Number) I had a bit of a wait, but the guy was knowledgeable about the product and resolved my issue.  We will see how the RMA works out.
For those of you with stories of horrible support - Is this outside the US?

Archos forum / Mobile Clone Dvd Upgrade
« on: August 17, 2006, 08:34:01 am »
received an email from Slysoft today.  Looks like they have an upgrade available for Mobile Cloned DVD that addresses the issue with .avi file for Archos products; "- Fix: .avi files bigger than 1 GByte were not played correctly
by a lot of mobile devices, like Creative Labs ZEN Vision or
  all Archos devices"

Will test out when I get my unit back from return!

Finally giving up my AV500 for sometime to get the naviagtion button fixed.  Boy, it was hard shipping it away today.  I will post the turn around time for repairs.  Archos claims 10 business days from the day the receive it.  I sent it Fedex ground ($8 with insurance) instead of overnight as it would have been $50 plus.  Hopefully I will have it back within 3 weeks.  Already miss it. :-(

Archos forum / Av 500 Locking Up When Recording Tv
« on: August 16, 2006, 08:29:27 pm »
I agree with Qazeebo, it sure sounds like static electricity. I would suggest using the remote to stop the recording or set the duration to stop it.  The files are very easy to edit later (remove commercials, etc.).

I think you are making a correct assumption.  My feeling is that you will be OK with that file size.  I can not test out as I just sent my unit in for repair (right navigation button flaky) today.

Regards,

Tim
