Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom For C3000 (based On Beta1/beta3)
« on: December 02, 2006, 11:43:57 am »
I've been playing with this for the past couple of days.  Overall I am very impressed!  Thx Meanie for your excellent work.

I've had one thing happen that's a little odd.  When I connect my 3K to my Ubuntu box via the USB cable, I get 7 instances of usbdisk show on my desktop.  The connection works but it's something I'd like to fix.  Anyone else run into this problem?

Did you install any application just before it started acting up? Do you overclock it? If neither is true, it looks more like a hardware problem to me...

No new installs.  I do not overclock...

Ping...

Anyone have any feedback?  If not, I'm going to try the factory reset tonight.  Someone halt me if I'm on the wrong track.

I've had my 3000 for about 2 weeks and ran into a problem.  While using it at work, the screen went white.  Nothing I tried made a difference.  I tried a hard reset but after that if I tried to turn it on the screen would flash for half a second and that was it.  Plugging it in to charge did not turn on the charge light.

Tried to access the diagnostic menu but nothing happened.

I tried lpotters suggestion of: Hit reset button. Take power off, take battery out for about 5-10 minutes. put battery in, power cord in - leave for 10 minutes.  Still nothing although I now got a charge light.

It being late by now I left the battery out and let it sit overnight.   When turning it on I now get the initial Sharp boot screen with the red logo and some kanji below it.  That lasts for about 10-15 seconds and then slowly the screen fades to white.  After that nothing.

I can also now get to the diagnostic menu so obviously I'm not totally dead in the water.  I found the following suggestion in a troubleshooting post.

System will not boot past Sharp boot screen:

First solution (Will erase all data):
1) Remove the battery cover and press the reset switch.
2) Replace the battery cover.
3) Hold the OK button and power on the unit.
4) Plug in the unit.
5) Select the third option in the menu.
6) Select the first option in the second menu.
7) Wait (May take longer then 5 minutes).
System will then boot in Japanese.

What I am wondering is if this is my only option at this point?  I spent a lot of time converting to english and installing a bunch of apps and don't want to start all over if it is not necessary.

Apologies for the long-winded post but I wanted to provide as much info as possible.  Any help would be appreciated.

2. Would people be interested in configuration services?  Obviously I would be able to convert them to english, but are people interested in other configuration services?  For example, I could flash them to a different rom image (pdaXrom, cacko, open zaurus, etc.).  I could also install software, scripts, or anything else that someone might want, and after I could do a NAND backup to a CF or SD card if provided.

Personally I would say that having the unit come preconfigured would not be a bonus.  Configuration, flashing, etc is half the fun of these units.  iT gives you a chance to learn something and allows you to make the zaurus fully yours by customizing it yourself.

Even better - Cacko3k makes it easy to make a 128mb swap file on the HD with no fear of burning out a flash card!

The hard drive tends to slow things down a little some times, but it's usefulness when you look at the 3k as a laptop replacement is amazing

Yeah, I've been following your thread on the Cacko testing with great interest.  Looking forward to trying it out for myself.

And I've replaced the builtin PIM apps with KA/pi-KO/pi, which are much more useful, IMHO.

I totally agree - KO/Pi preserves my sanity at work.  I'm running from one meeting to another and without it I would be lost.

Thx!  I've been making an invalid assumption that the 1K had 128Mb of RAM - double that of the 3K...  Then it's a no brainer and the 3K is the way to go.  Thx for clarifying.  One new c3000 owner on the way.

I've had a 5600 for a number of years now and it has served me well.  It is time to get a replacement though.

I'm all set to put in an order but have still to make up my mind as to whether to get the C3K or C1K.  I was hoping to get some input as to which you consider the better buy.

I've been all through the forums and have not found anything which would sway me one way or the other.

Price is not a consideration, neither is color. (although that black case is rather nice)

What I would use it for is:  PIM (my life/work revolves around my calendar - if it's not scheduled it does not exist) , videos for on the plane, net access, programming and tinkering for fun, games, ebooks, and as a laptop replacement for when I'm on the road.  ( I despise lugging around my work issue laptop )

So what is best, the extra storage of the 3K or the extra memory in the 1K?

Theoretically possible...  I haven't seen Act! since around '97 though - didn't know it was still around.

I can get you a copy of what I have...  the software portion is about 14MB in size.  Let me know if you want it.

UPDATE!

I have read that the intellisync software that came with the 5600 syncs with Act!.

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=76833\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I took a look at the version that came with my 5600 but there was no reference to Act!  The only options were outlook or palm desktop

I\'m 36 and develop interfaces for a medical imaging company in Vancouver.  Prior to that I was a sys admin at a ski resort.  Use my 5600 as a laptop replacement when I\'m on the road.
