5x00 General discussions / Special Kernel For Sl5600
« on: February 09, 2006, 01:45:08 am »
Hi, I have sl5600 and have heard that there is a special kernel which disabled
cache bug workaround. My xcale processor doesn't have that bug fortunately.
Will I have speed improvement with the special kernel even if mine doesn't
have that bug? I played divx movie but there's hiccups from time to time.
Thanks,

Yes, Wellenreiter needs wireless extension. So does Kismet.
Type \'iwpriv eth0\' from comman line. When you see \"monitor\" in the list,
Kismet/Wellenreiter is highly likely to work fine.

General Discussion / help with SD read/write speed
« on: March 11, 2004, 07:49:37 am »
Sounds very good. Can I try it on 5600? If not, can you compile one for 5600?

Somebody can  build a kernel for 5600 with this option enabled? I want to try it
on my 5600 machine. Thanks.

Sharp ROMs / 5600 low on memory

How about creating swap space? It may be a little bit slow but you can get
enough memory.

Accessories / Problem writing files bigger than 1Mb to my 256Mb Lexar SD
« on: February 25, 2004, 02:03:52 am »
I had the same problem and just got back to original kernel. I couldn\'t copy
through samba, either.
Well... there\'s no good solution yet. I ran into variout problems with various
version of rom/kernels. It would be really great if I can get a new rom/kernel
which has features below.

- kismet for socket/symbol
- qinstall works even though CF card is not inserted
- writing big file to sd card with no problem
- preemptive patch

5x00 Hardware / Socket and WEP ?
« on: February 20, 2004, 03:17:21 am »
I have symbol card and it works fine, too. I think once AP and card has the same
authentication type, they may work.(but I\'m not that sure and I\'m just using \"Open system\".)
I used HEX type WEP.(I had to enter many characters).
BTW, is there anyone had luck with kismet? I gave up after a couple of tries....

Sharp ROMs / How to tell which ROM I have?

I guess you updated kernel and still your rom is sharp rom.

Software / What to choose: tckVideo or Mr. Z Video Player?
« on: February 13, 2004, 02:03:21 am »
I should have seen this topic earlier. I have 5600 and tried tkcvideo, too. It was horrible
in audio/video sync. I encoded movie at about 150 bit rate with 240X160 but playback was
not very good. I moved to Dr. Z video player and it is really impressive. Even at higher bit
rate with 320X240, there\'s no sync issue at all even though there was frame drop a little
on my SD card.
BTW, playback from CF card was choppy? I have a plan to buy a CF card with the hope that
playback would be much better. Well... probably I should buy high speed CF card then...

5x00 Hardware / HELP! - Socket wifi card locks up my 5600

This is interesting.  With a decent file manager, look under the /lib/modules and /lib/modules.rom heirarchy and see if you can find any files like the following:

hermes.o
orinoco.o
orinoco_cs.o
spectrum_cs.o

I had installed the Zynergy ROM for a brief time before restoring the Sharp ROM.  I had to manually re-install some things because not everything in the factory configuration came back.  I may have missed the wireless drivers.

Mike

I couldn\'t find any of those files. I even tried \"find\" utility but there\'s no
such files. I could only find prism2_cs.o file under /lib/modules/.../pcmcia.
It\'s strange to me, too. But it works with symbol card with WEP enabled.
Here is the output from \'cardctrl ident\'

$ /sbin/cardctl  ident
Socket 0:
  product info: \"Symbol\", \"Spectrum24 LA4100 Series WLAN PC card\", \"1.00\"
  manfid: 0x026c, 0x0001
  function: 6 (network)
Socket 1:
  no product info available

Regards.

5x00 Hardware / HELP! - Socket wifi card locks up my 5600
« on: February 07, 2004, 12:33:20 am »
I got symbol card yesterday. It\'s strange that everybody has different experience even
though they used the same hardware and software. I\'m using sl5600 with original sharp
rom (1.32). I just plug the card and set up SSID and WEP key, then it started to work
with no problem. Entering 128K WEP key took some time but other than that, just few
clicking on the screen made it work. I\'m trying to have kismet work now.
I\'m wondering if my sharp rom has wireless extension or not. Is there any way to
figure it out? Do I need to install libcap package?
Thanks.

Accessories / CF/SD which one is faster?
« on: February 04, 2004, 05:17:34 pm »
Thank you for all the adivce. I\'d better go with CF card for playing
movies. I have SL-5600 and may get some benefit from high speed
SD cards but don\'t want to pay much higher price.
BTW, It\'s stange that MMC is faster because I\'ve heard the opposite.
I want to try if I have one. Anyways, thank you very much for all the
information.

Thanks guys.
Plus, I believe the Ambicom driver supports WEP, while the Socket driver doesn\'t.  Not sure about range comparisons.

I\'m using SL-5600 with original sharp rom (1.3.2) and going to use
symbol wireless card. Is it true that symbol/socket doesn\'t support
WEP? I can\'t even think about running my home wireless network
without WEP.

Accessories / CF/SD which one is faster?
« on: February 04, 2004, 05:32:16 am »
I made divx file and it ran on internal rom just fine. After I moved to
SD card (lexar sd256) play back becomes a little bit jerky. There were
some hickups periodically. I don\'t have any CF card but will it run faster
than SD card?  (I don\'t want to sacrifice video quality anymore)
And I know there are high speed sd cards with higher price tag like lexar
30x sd card or sandisk ultra. Can Zaurus take advantage of so called
their high speed?
Any advice/information would be appreciated.
Thanks.
