For Sale / Wanted / A Bargain At Any Price... Okay Maybe Not *any* Price ;-)
« on: September 28, 2011, 11:10:46 am »
So far the battery in my 1st Zaurus doesn't seem to have lost all that much over the past 4 years. It usually stays charged between 80 and 100% since I plug it into the car all the time. I used to get about 8 hours of music out of it with the LCD turned off most of the time (thanks to Quasar). I'm running it down right now to see and it seems similar to before, but I won't know for sure for a few more days.

Oh, I have way more toys to play with than I have time. I bought a 2nd Zaurus while I still could simply to sit on the shelf and wait for the 1st one to die. Batteries seem to still be available, though they're fading away, too.

It's amazing how fast devices and their accessories disappear these days...

Well, my "new" Zaurus showed up yesterday, and I'm happy. The seller was really slow. However, I don't feel like I paid way too much as it's basically new and unused. The box is a bit wrinkled and worn, but so what. It's a complete set with charger, battery, box, Zaurus, manual, and CD. It's not a Sharp charger with folding prongs like I got with my previous purchase, but that's ok. Chargers are easy (PSP!). The battery doesn't have a date code on it, so I can't say how old it is.

Did you ever watch videos on it?

The only video I've watched was an episode of The Prisoner encoded by someone else. It looked great at 352x288 and 25fps. Next time I travel I'll bring more with me. It's a great little machine and I've not found anything to replace it yet.

There's a box to make an offer, which I used and got a SL-C1000 from that guy on eBay for less than half of the BIN price. It was still overpriced considering the age and low demand, but he wouldn't take anything less. (I'm not going to say publicly what I paid.) I tried about 6 times to bring him down to earth, but he was stubborn. If it's not worth it, I'll complain and send it back. I didn't use stupid paypal, so it should be easier to get my money back.

Basically, I wanted another for when my current one breaks since I use it daily for my PIM and music. There are pretty much only 2 sources now - fleaBay and pulster.de - that I found. Pulster.de wanted too much, especially with shipping from the EU to the USA.

Software / Quasar Media Player Released For Sharprom And Pdaxrom

Another idea for you:

When I turn off the LCD with the 3 key while playing music, it'd be nice if the touch screen was also disabled. You could make it an option for those who don't like that idea. I've inadvertently touched the screen in the top right-hand corner, putting the program into input mode, all while the LCD was off. I had to turn my Z off to get the screen back on, since pressing 4 put a 4 in the text box rather than turning the LCD back on.

This happened to me in my car, which is usually where I'm playing music. The Z sits on the passenger seat with the screen open. If I pick it up wrong, say at a stop light to see what's playing, this can happen.

Again, I put in a ticket at Katastrophos as an enhancement, but I thought I'd repeat it here.

If a directory name contains a percent sign, "%", all files in that directory are not read. The file is added to the playlist, but the entry is empty, ie, there's a line for it, but it's blank. As a result, mplayer returns an error when called to play that file.

I had a directory named "100%Dance", because that's the album name. It took me a bit to figure out why the songs (ripped as ogg/vorbis if that matters) didn't show up in the playlist, but took up space. Once I renamed that directory to "100pctDance" everything loaded fine.

It's easy to work around, but I thought I'd post it. It's the 0.9 Cacko version.

Excellent player. Thanks again!

Thanks for posting this. I've been looking all over for a non-X Emacs.

Code: [Select]
hostap_diag wlan0as that works on mine, although I am running padXrom?

Where did you find that info on v1.7.4 & 1.8.2?

Cheers,

Alistair

The hostap_diag command has always given me an error. Strangely, even after I loaded pdaXii13 (or whatever it's called), it didn't work either. That command has always returned an error for me. I'm back to Cacko 1.23 now.

I used the Windows laptop to load v1.7.4 onto the wifi card, tried it in my Zaurus, and it didn't connect. So, I loaded 1.8.0, and it didn't work again. So, I loaded up 1.8.2 and it connected fine. This is from memory, so I may not be remembering correctly. There's always a chance I didn't try 1.8.0, but at this point, I'm done fooling with it.

After using Windows to reflash the AmbiCom card with 1.8.2, my WPA-PSK now works just fine. If I didn't have a laptop with a PCMCIA slot, I don't know what I would've done. Sure, the wifi card works now, but "hostap_diag wifi0" still gives me the same error. dmesg can see the card just fine. If anybody has a clue as to why, I'd still like to hear it.

One note I didn't see anywhere else: if you want WPA, you must use 1.8.2 station firmware on the AmbiCom card. Neither 1.7.4 nor 1.8.0 support WPA.

HI, have you installed 'hostapdriver'. Not sure if it is in Cacko, but it was not in pdaXrom and this solved the problem when I was getting the same error.

Cacko seems to have hostap already installed, since the programs are there. However, I tried the update to 0.4.9 I found here: [a href=\"http://ldrolez.free.fr/software/zaurus/]http://ldrolez.free.fr/software/zaurus/[/url] with no different results. Fortunately, it's only some links to change, so it's easy to change back.

I did find, via dmesg, that my card specs are:
NIC: id=0x800c v1.0.0
PRI: id=0x15 v1.0.7
STA: id=0x1f v1.3.6

That's pretty old stuff. I'll try to update it with WinXP on Monday when I get access to the laptop. The junsun.net link had the program to use with Windoze. I'll try 1.7.4 first, and see if it works.

Replying to my own post...

I found this site, http://linux.junsun.net/intersil-prism/, which is all full of good info. I'll read it all and try what is suggested there and get back here.

So, I bought an AmbiCom WL1100C-CF wifi card for my Cacko-running SL-C1000, having read about how great it is. Well, it's great, but the one I got has old firmware so doesn't support WPA-PSK. It works fine with WEP, but I ain't running that with my home network. So, I search the interwebs and find that there are firmware updates! Hooray! Now my hurdle: running hostap_diag wlan0 returns this:
Code: [Select]
# hostap_diag wlan0
Host AP driver diagnostics information for 'wlan0'

ioctl[PRISM2_IOCTL_HOSTAP]: Connection timed out
Could not communicate with the kernel driver.
#
The same thing happens with wifi0 instead of wlan0.

Cardctl gives me this:
Code: [Select]
# cardctl config 0
  Vcc 0.0V  Vpp1 0.0V  Vpp2 0.0V
# cardctl info 0
PRODID_1="AmbiCom"
PRODID_2="WL1100C 802.11b CF-Card"
PRODID_3="2.2"
PRODID_4=""
MANFID=d601,0002
FUNCID=6
# cardctl ident 0
  product info: "AmbiCom", "WL1100C 802.11b CF-Card", "2.2"
  manfid: 0xd601, 0x0002
  function: 6 (network)
# cardctl status 0
  3.3V 16-bit PC Card [suspended]
#
If I try to resume the card, it just goes back to suspended.

Trying to reflash:
Code: [Select]
# prism2_srec -v wlan0 pk010101.hex sf010802.hex
S3 CRC-16 generation record: start=0x007E17FE len=2 prog=0
[lots of goop about the firmware I'm not going to type]
Start address 0x00000000

ioctl[PRISM2_IOCTL_HOSTAPD]: Connection timed out
Missing wlan component info
Could not read wlan RIDs
#

And ideas about how I can get hostap_diag to see this card so there's hope I can reflash it to a new enough version so it'll support WPA? I've scoured the forums and nobody else seems to have this problem. I've seen hints that the card's firmware can be updated with Windows, but I can't find out how. I have access to a Windows XP laptop that has a PC slot and I have a PC-to-CF adapter, so I'd happily upgrate the firmware with Windows if I could find out how.

When I temporarily reset my network for WEP, the card works great.

General Discussion / Sl-c1000 Portability
« on: August 03, 2007, 07:39:46 pm »
Well, I shopped. True to the measurements, all the DS Lite cases are too small. I ended up with a RhinoSkin generic pouch that's nylon canvas with a soft liner. It has a belt clip and two tiny pockets in the front. It closes with a large velcroed flap. I had to put in a piece of the packaging foam down at the bottom because the pocket is too deep, but, hey, my HP41 case did that too! http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_...duct_id=0202612

I almost bought one by CaseLogic meant for an Axim which is a more rigid zippered clamshell, just like their CD cases. I would've had to clip out the stiff plastic holder for the Axim, but that's no big deal. The CaseLogic one would protect the Z pretty well, I think, but had no belt clip. I may blow another $22 on that one if the RhinoSkin pouch bugs me too much.
