C1000/3x00 General discussions / Sl-c1000 Battery Charging Question

Hi, anyone still on this post? You say i can use a PSP charger to charge my a Zaurus, is that so?
Its just it says its 2000mAh and the sharp is 1000mAh, i don't want to blow any fuses. Im only cautious as i broke my PSP with experimenting with other chargers.
-Thanks

Sharp also used to sell a 2000mAh charger, if that makes a difference.  As far as the amps are concerned a higher rating doesn't matter because, as Deluxe says, amps is a measure of how much the unit draws; the charger will not supply more than the Zaurus draws, so a charger with a higher amperage rating *cannot* damage the Zaurus--as far as the *power* is concerned.  A *lower* rating could possibly damage the Zaurus but a higher one cannot.

On the other hand, the charger *will* supply whatever voltage it supplies regardless of what the Zaurus wants, and since the Zaurus voltage seems to unregulated the power supply *has* to be.  If the charger varies greatly during its cycle or spikes sharply as the load decreases (as Speculatrix mentioned), then that will almost definitely damage the Zaurus.

So "what matters" is *both* amperage and voltage--as long as the amperage is at least 1000mA and the voltage is regulated at 5 volts you will be fine.

I actually use a psp charger for my Zaurus almost exclusively *because* of the higher amperage rating--when it's plugged into the wall I'm usually running a high-powered wifi card, usb mouse and keyboard, and very often a memory stick of some kind, so I want the insurance for the extra power being used.  Just for charging the battery, though, I have a psp cable with usb on one end and the charger plug on the other that stays connected to my computer and is used for both the psp and Zaurus depending on which needs to be charged at the time...

C1000/3x00 Hardware / C1000 Usb Not Working :(

ok ill try a powered hub, thanks

If the powered hub doesn't work, you could try removing the ipks.  I've not *used* Cacko, but on both pdaXii13 and Debian I have no problem plugging in a USB "travel" mouse, full-sized USB keyboard or reading/writing to a 2gig USB flash memory stick with my C1000.  I do need a powered hub for anything else, but if a USB mouse won't work (after trying the powered hub) I'd look at the cable or at the Z's internals.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / My Updated Beta3

Might work on Akita, but I make usage of the extra space on hdd ... so ... you have to either remove most of the additional packages or install additional files to sd/cf.

The only two distributions I've run (I'm relatively new to the Z scene) are PdaXii13 (full) and Debian (currently), so I am used to running from the sd card (have to keep the CF open for wifi).  While I'd love to have a 3100/3200 for the space and versatility, it's not in the cards right now.  I'll have another Akita on the way shortly, so if the install/conversion is problematic I should be able to help work on it.  The problem is I'm not really clever enough to come up with ideas on my own so I'll need someone else to tell me what to do--I'm *generally* good at following instructions

Not suggesting that you take time to try to help me do something with your work that you never intended, just offering help to any other akita owners who may be interested in trying if the install turns out to be not as straight-forward as moving the additional files to the card...

I will soon release download archive for updating beta3 my way ... for whoever might be interested in it.

...

I will post more details later. Just needed to say it, to hear some opinions, if you're interested.

I would be quite happy or the chance to try it, if I can run it on an Akita.

Thanks,

Scott

Debian / Matrixmen Feed Updated

hi

back to the debian_zaurus business after some (great!) holidays

Welcome back--glad to hear your holidays were good to you  :>

Quote from: jpmatrix
i've updated the matrixmen feed with most packages from ca1eb.

i've also created a ca1eb_deb for the packages which were unsuccessfully imported by reprepro ( matrixmen.free.fr/zaurus/debian/ca1eb_deb)

Is that why my apt will no longer "parse or open" the "package list or status file" for matrixmen.free.fr_zaurus_debian_dists_sid_main_binary-armel_Packages?  Or has something else changed since yesterday morning?  Trying to update locked up aptitude, so I did an apt-get update and at least saw the error message.  I removed the file and was able to use aptitude, saw a new version of the apt "suite" and thought perhaps it was a slight change in format.  Upgrading apt/aptitude gives the same error, though now aptitude will give an error message before locking up.

I'm fairly new to actually *using* Linux, though, so I don't know that it's not something *I've* done...

And thanks for all your effort and work that makes it possible for people like me to use my lovely Akita to its full potential...

Scott

P.S.--I can still quit aptitude, so it's not actually locked up, but quitting is the only thing I can do while matrixmen.free.fr_zaurus_debian_dists_sid_main_binary-armel_Packages is in the apt/lists/ directory...

For Sale / Wanted / Fs: C1000

you'd probably do better to be willing to at least partially split the sale, as many people would be considering buying a 1000 as an upgrade from a 7xx or 8xx and might have accessories already. just my 0.02euros.

I might consider that if I was looking to upgrade to a C3xxx or something. However since I'm not, I don't want to be stuck with accessories that would be of no use to me if I were to sell just the unit.

If I could afford it I'd gladly make an offer on the bundle.  It'd be hard to justify to the wife, though, since I've managed to get an Akita recently.  If you *do* decide to part the lot out, I'd be interested in the host cable, Spectrum Networker and SD card (or some other combination thereof) depending on price...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Hardware problems with pdaXrom..
« on: December 25, 2007, 07:05:00 am »
I realize I am quoting a three year old post in a thread that hasn't seen a message in six months, but this is the most appropriate thread and it *is* pinned...

I am running a pdaXii13 full install from a SanDisk Ultra II 2gb SD card on an Akita, so far without issue.  I am trying desperately to achieve some sort of network connectivity and have, to that end, just acquired a Trendnet TE-CF10 (yes, ten),  This thread seemed the best bet to get it working, beginning with this (reposted at the time) info.

Quote
Code: [Select]
card "TRENDnet TE-CF100"
 manfid 0x0149, 0xc1ab
 bind "pcnet_cs"

I have tried it with the "100" and with a "10".  I have tried it with the actual information reported by cardctl ident ("Ethernet", "CF Size PC Card", "1.0", " ") and I have tried it with the (later suggested) "Unknown NE2000 Compatible Ethernet".  I have tried it with and without  "function: 6 (network)" and even added the commented out "function: network_adapter" mentioned in one post.  Nothing worked--in fact it never mattered what I entered in /etc/pcmcia/config, the card eject panel in icewm always reported it as "TRENDnet TE-CF100" (yes, one hundred).

I suppose it was due to my own tunnel-vision that it took me several hours to finally check lsmod to find out the module wasn't even being loaded and subsequently try modprobe pcnet_cs to discover that the module bound by 11,000 entries in /etc/pcmcia/config couldn't even be found...

I've looked in every beta1, beta3 and ii13 feed I can find (which is probably relatively few) to no avail.  But then I realized that this is a fresh install of 5.4.9, my entire set of customizations consisting of adding some wallpapers, editing ipkg.conf so that /mnt/card2 will show up as a possible destination, and now one edit (several times) to /etc/pcmcia/config--which means that 5.4.9 doesn't include that module.

Is there some way I can get it, or would I need to reflash to some indeterminately older version of pdaxrom, get the card working and then attempt to upgrade back to 5.4.9 from there?  Or am I stuck with an unconnected Zaurus until I can score a wireless card, since all the ethernet cards require this (seemingly) now non-existent module?

Thanks for any help you may be able to provide  :>
