Much thanks for your helpful reply. Finding that part name/number would have been an exercise in frustration even with heightened google-fu, and you saved me that which is greatly appreciated. I will find it and update any findings when the replacement surgery begins.

It's been years since I started up the Zaurus, and I broke something.
I snapped the super tiny switch toggle on the motherboard that is triggered by the plastic slider that locks in the battery door.

What should I do? A spring flew out from behind the little black switch, I recovered it only to have it bounce into oblivion shortly thereafter.

I'm handy with soldering. I'll send it to someone to fix. I'll do anything really. The unit is great other than this, it doesn't light up charging now so I think it needs to be fixed.

Thanks for any suggestions. I'd be happy to just solder a couple points together and have it  remain in a permanent position if that would be advisable.

HIGHLY unlikely scenario, BUT just for the hell of it, imagine THIS SL-C future wickedness(!):

2 of these CF adapters - 1 internal, 1 external - 8 slots!
Max em out with eight 32GB cards

I'm not advanced-savvy with RAID, but I do know even expensive server MBs don't even support 8 drive arrays, but just to further the insanity of the vision...

If that microSD wifi adapter I just posted would work, and/or if SDIO can be properly resolved (again, we are utilizing suspension of disbelief x faith x insanity here   )
there could be an internal wifi mod, utilize the SD slot for wifi, or free up 1 of the 8 slots for wifi.

That would be ridiculous.
Back to reality now (and getting zubuntu installed correctly on NAND would be a good first step)

microSD is pretty amazingly small!
This could prove to be useful for our zaurii, maybe even for internal modding or something.

I'm seeing the updates today and I'd love to try this on my zaurus 3100!
Any word on Zaurus instructions would be appreciated I'm sure, even if it's months from now, we are out here and would like to try Mer!

Hey,
I remember I thought my Z was dead and did a lot of research about it and the battery, etc.
One thing I remember that came up was the power flows in the unit through the battery, so it is designed different than other devices that can bypass the battery and run straight off of mains.
I never could get it to work, found a cheap battery vendor (off of this lovely forum), and never thought about it again.

The OS sees it as just another monitor, and can mirror or extend. It just runs some extra processes in the background, but they only take up to 40MB RAM. I guess that means that old Zaurus is out, if/when the Linux drivers appear.

I totally don't need it, and I certainly don't need to be blowing $200 (which is a fair/good price for this IMO) on anything right now, but man I sure want this thing!

I would like to have it as an extra monitor for my desktop, then grab it, connect it to my tablet and take it with me!
I could also keep the tablet in my briefcase, with a USB cord coming out connected to the small monitor in my coat pocket, acting as a 7-inch touchscreen controller when I'm on the metro or around town. Here's the bonus why that would be handy: This has audio out, audio in, mic, and webcam too!

I'm going to wipe it and try from scratch.
Maybe something is left over from the pdaxii13 install on internal microdrive even though I flashed the correct kernel on the nand?
I don't know. It would be a tremendous service to me and others if someone could help a semi-novice go about installing this. I tried on the SD, I'd prefer to go onto the internal microdrive. Following is what I would try next, maybe someone can point out my failure before I waste more hours:

Would it work or be a good idea if I:
• first used the pdaxii13 installer to format and size the partitions correctly? (haven't tried this yet - is there another easy way to set up and partition the drive the right way? I saw the other thread about partitioning for Andromeda that ipenido started, but it's a bit advanced for me. From what I can tell, I should be starting from a completely blank zaurus with no terminal/shell available to type the commands)
• Then, use the emergency menu by holding down OK, select option 4, then CF
• On the CF I have all the files from the andromeda.zip and would rename zImage-debian.bin.hda1 to just zImage-debian.bin
• I will have no SD in during install. I will choose the HDA1 method. Hopefully I won't get any errors (I did at this point previously)
• I will go hiking, watch 6 consecutive Seinfeld episodes, or somehow otherwise spend the next few hours
• Upon my return, it has rebooted, I login as root with no password, I don't know what exact lines to type at this point


I would love to have this working, especially before the holiday.  
I hope to one day contribute in some way to this scene other than asking for help. Thanks for your time and all the great work.

Please someone help me get this working
I've installed on the SD and can't do the post-install part after reboot:

"- After auto reboot, untar the modules:

    cd /
    tar zxvf /where/to/modules-debian.tgz  "

What do I type in place of the " where/to " ? I've been searching days for a simple Andromeda install guide from scratch. I've found great guides from all you geniuses like 2or0 and ZDevil but I can't get this working.

• I have a C3100
• The modules-debian.tgz file is in the root of compact flash card
• If I type startx I can see the desktop image and mouse cursor but can't control anything
• I never have had to type or press "1" or "2" at bootup

I have some knowledge and am relatively resourceful, however, simple things like mounting sometimes escape me so perhaps it is a small mistake
