Ubuntu / Zubuntu Is The Best. Thank You!
« on: January 29, 2009, 07:06:45 pm »
I started using Zaurus from SL5500 and then in 2004 got the C3000. I am a unix geek by heart. All I wanted to just run a full blown linux version on ARM to do everything a normal linux laptop does.... and believe me, I have tried every z distro (sharp, openzaurus, angstrom, debian, the kompany, pdaxrom, ... etc openbsd...) everything... they all didn't have the power and "ooomph" to do everything you would do normally on a desktop/laptop linux box on the zaurus... up until now...

I got zubuntu working, and it is amazing... it does everything i need it to do and more! i even have it on permanently as a box on my network... love it.... everthing just works! It feels as though I have the power of a linux server in the palm of my hand!

A BIG thank you to cortez at omegamoon for his efforts and everyone who has contributed to make this happen!

I believe newer versions took hostap out and you just use "wext" or something similar.
Thanks for the tip that worked fine

« on: September 14, 2008, 09:35:40 am »
Hi Everyone,

I have debian running with the following config.
C3000 - Debian EABI - Kernel 2.6.23 of Angstrom

Did a dist-upgrade and and the new wpa_supplicant doesn't have hostap built in, does anyone have a currently version of wpa_supplicant with hostap support compiled for armel (EABI) they can post up?

Many thanks for your help!

Hardware Mods / Tried To Make 40gb Z With Ipod Hdd

Hi All,

I tried yesterday to fit in a 40GB hard disk out of a 4G ipod into the C3000 Z.

The plan was to replace the internal CF disk with the ipod hdd - with about 2cm sticking out. To do this I had to make a new gap from the silver plastic above the CF entry point and extend the CF entry point on the white plastic.

After about 2 hours of opening, unscrewing, ripping bits of plastic, the new hdd fit in (with the bit sticking out on the side, hey I didn't care, was going to have a 40GB Z !).. it just wouldn't power on.... the ipod (toshiba) disk is 3.3v - same as the microdrive... to power it back up you need to run it off the battery for some reason, then plug in the adapter... otherwise if you try to power with the adapter, it light would keep blinking and nothing happens...

so i closed everything up again and put the original 4gb in there and it is back to normal except for the large gaps...

If anyone has some pointers im willing to try it?

maybe a 5G ipod disk which is a little thinner might work?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the iPod HD does not use the standard CF pinout, even though the form factor might be compatible.

I thought it was only for the ipod minis which have the CF size drives, but their pins are different to standard... but the 4G ipod drive has the same pins as normal CF... don't know if the internal wiring is different or not... could be the reason it didnt power up?

5x00 General discussions / Another Dead 5500 ? Plz. Help!
« on: December 11, 2006, 06:42:58 am »
Im in the exact same boat!

I had the bad block mtdblock error and followed the steps in the other post which you linked to..

took my 5500 out of the drawer after a year and a half after discovering other ppl are experiencing the same probs as me..

Managed to get the original Ospack from zaurususergroup.org and now have the flashing options in the maintenance menu...

wiped all of flash with all the options, but when i try to reflash with newer Ospack or openzaurus or tkcrom, it just doesn't work anymore... it starts the flash with the two lights, but then goes off after 2 seconds... seems my bootloader is totally stuffed!

How can i get it back to work again?

Wondering if anyone has a working version of mysql for a c3000 sharp rom with tetsu kernel?

I've got apache and php from creshno working no probs, just can not find a working sql version, all the versions ive tried (v3 or v4) dont work properly at all.. there's tonnes of posts around regarding this issue, been through all of them but still can't find a working version.

Thanks in advance
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Update: Have a full working version! yay!

Installed from [a href=\"http://anjackson.net/extras/mysql_3.23.49-8.7_arm.ipk]http://anjackson.net/extras/mysql_3.23.49-8.7_arm.ipk[/url]

and then installed http://dragos.com/zaurus/openssl_0.9.7c_arm.ipk

to save some space

put the databases in /hdd3/mysql

cp -r /var/mysql/* /hdd3/mysql
ln -s /hdd3/mysql /var/mysql

start the db with mysqlstart
initialise the db with mysql_install_db

pdaXrom for C1000/3100/3200 and x86
I have to choose between
- an old version of pdaXrom not stable and not supported (problem with power management and no bug fixes)
- a new version of OZ without Video Acceleration (but in progress  ).

I understood that it is too difficult for pdaXrom Team to support C3000. (but OZ has develop a unique version for all models with microdrive).

Zaurus Team are so stupid to make 2 distrib ... with differents problems.

good-bye pdaXrom.

Software / Scummvm For Cacko/sharp Vga
« on: April 27, 2006, 08:30:44 am »
thanks for compiling this great prog... I was using 0.6.0 zports c7x0-5 but this new version is much better! Had a few libs missing on my z but not too hard to fix.

quick hint for users installing libfluid
the libfluid package can be installed in /hdd2/usr/lib and the .so and .so.1 files can be linked (ln -s) to .so.1.1.1 file. after this is done don't forget to run ldconfig

Going to try out my scumm games tonight...

Software / Changing Default Font In Hancom Word?
« on: April 18, 2006, 06:50:52 am »
posted in cx000 section, though this would be more suited.

Just wondering if its possible to change the default font for hancom word on a c3000 ?

the default font is a bit too big and changing the font from the menu to a smaller size is only cosmetic, it reverts back to the old big one when you open the file again.
