5x00 General discussions / Returning To The Fold
« on: August 21, 2006, 07:16:01 am »
A long time ago I got rid of my SL5500 in a fit of madness. Now I've got another at last.... what next?

I've at least remembered how to reflash the Zaurus back to Sharp Rom 3.1.

What other ROMs would be recommended? Nothing too difficult but, I'd like a prettier interface and to concentrate on using it for mail (wireless), multimedia (mp3's, internet radio, streaming mp3's over my network, movie clips, photos etc), browsing.
I won't be using it for PIM stuff as I have my PPC (heresy I know!) for that sort of thing.

I've got a Linksys WCF12 wirless card coming very soon - will that just plug & play?

Can it be synched with my Fedora Core workstation? Now that would be cool.

Lastly - what's the root password?

Sharp ROMs / SP2 -> can't communicate
« on: October 08, 2004, 10:59:21 am »
FWIW I have similar probs on two XP systems but with Outlook instead.

The SP2 system will only not communicate other than by pinging it via Windows CLI.

The SP1 system will ping and will allow me to browse the Zaurus file system but Intellisync won't communicate with Outlook nor will it allow me to send files to the Zaurus (although I can transfer them using Windows Explorer).

I've tried all the usual things of uninstalling, re-installing blah blah blah. It seems broken to me and that nothing other than a fresh install of Windows might possibly get it going.... and I'm not prepared to do that atm.

I've not had any response to my pleas for help so, I guess nobody can suggest anything new.

Windows Issues / Intellisync problems
« on: October 07, 2004, 02:15:14 pm »
I tried on my desktop.

Now I can browse the Zaurus with Windows file manager. Intellisync won't bomb, I can set the options but, it still won't connect. Before I sell my Z has anyone got any suggestions about what to do next?

5x00 Hardware / SL-5500 - hardware to buy

Cool. I was looking for a modem as well but, I haven't found one that cheap as yet. New they are silly, used they seem to be fetching £20-£40 on E-Bay.

Windows Issues / Intellisync problems
« on: October 06, 2004, 06:28:53 am »
Can anyone help? I am at my wits end here. I've upated to the latest Sharp Rom 313. I have Intellisync  1.43 installed. USB drivers 3.22 that came with the original CD are installed (3.4? doesn't work on my XPSP2 laptop the Sharp network adaptor NDIS5 is not recognised with the later drivers). I can ping the Zaurus from Windows CLI no probs but, Intellisync won't talk to the Zaurus and when I try to set the sync options it bombs.

Windows Issues / Intellisync problems

Rom 2.37.
Intellisync 1.43E
Windows XP SP2.

Drivers are installed (after Intellisync). I can ping the SL5500 no probs from Windows XP's command line. But I am unable to make a connection for synching. Also when I try to set the sync options I get the following error:

"Intellisync for web application has encoutered a problem and needs to close".

I right click on the network connection in the system tray, bring up properties and then status the dialoguie box shows plenty of packets being sent but, none received.

I've been through the usual loop of install-uninstall lots of times now...all to no avail.

Pls help!!!

Windows Issues / What is the correct order to install sync software
« on: October 05, 2004, 05:45:59 pm »
My SL5500 documentation contradicts itself.

The quick start guide starts with driver installation and then goes onto Intellisync installation,

The Intellisync docs state that Intellisync must be installed first and then the drivers.

Which is correct?

TIA.

Be patient. Someone will be along at some point to answer your questions. There's a load of knowledge here but it's not always a fast moving forum. I'm a new Zaurus user too(well I'm still waiting for it to arrive).

Cheers!

5x00 Hardware / SL-5500 - hardware to buy
« on: October 04, 2004, 07:58:00 pm »
I'm waiting for my SL-5500 to arrive and I've ordered a D-Link DCF-650W wifi adaptor for the CF slot for hooking up to my network at home.

I was wondering about what options to pursue for internet access away from home. A CF slot modem or a bluetooth card for use with my mobile phone? I guess the former would be better in terms of call costs and it would not be dependent upon a decent network signal.

Does anyone have any recommendations for any particular cards?

I'm intending to use the SD slot for storage but, I might buy an additional CF card for backup etc. Is a high speed as in 40x or 80x  CF card likely to be of any benefit with the Zaurus or would I be best off staying with a cheaper 8x or 12x card?

I am not sure what ROM the Zaurus comes with - but in any case I'll probably flash it to a recent and stable ROM.

TIA.

Hi Peeps.

Many thanks for the quick replies - I haven't got it yet....waiting for it to arrive.  So, I don't know what ROM version is installed. Where's the best software resources for the Zauruz? Here by any chance?

I've just got myself a brand new Sl-5500. I'm just getting into Linux so, it seemed like a good idea to get the Zaurus. I'm also a Windows (l)user and I was wondering what software is out there for me. My needs are:

Sync with Microsoft Money
Sync mail with Outlook
View photos
Do sms to my phone hopefully with bluetooth
Pick up mail using my phone (Sony Ericsson T610 and R520M).
Occasionally surf when away from home
Usual diary and contacts stuff
Viewing documents and procedures - pdf's, Word files, Excel spreadsheets etc.
Play media files - video, mp3 etc.

TIA.
