C1000/3x00 Hardware / Gps For Zaurus
« on: August 17, 2006, 03:26:36 pm »
Is there somewhere a list of compatible CF GPS cards for Zaurus ? I am looking over ebay and sometimes some GPS cards go out for only 30$ but I don't grab them out of fear of not working under Zaurus (I use cacko 1.23 on a 3100) I know that the software support is very weak and poor, but even them I'm interested in the GPS card as I know is only a matter of time before someone adapts Tom Tom Go or something like that.

So my question is, can I grab any GPS CF card and use it or I need to check for special drivers for the zaurus in wich case where can I find a compatible list?

thank to all.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko + Sl-c3100 + Wcf11
« on: December 23, 2005, 09:26:51 am »
I have putted a complete entry of the open Sid. If I check the Non-Spec ESS-ID then it doesn't connect. If I fill up all the infos (SID, IP, DNS) it doesn't connect either. Then I filled up really everything (Domain) and then, hop, it worked, then I unconnect and connect and it doesn't work again...

I have 5 open Wifi around me, and I don't connect to any of them as long as I don't write everything and even then it doesn't connect easily to open wifi.

related to the Domain somehow ?

I'm having a lot of trouble with cacko and my linksys wcf11, if I configure the connection to connect to a WEP wifi (I put the WEP and fixed IP and all) then it connects perfect and into the lan, everything works. I have tryed this on my house and on my girlfriends house, both with WEP. Now, I put a standard connection without specific ESS-ID and then it doesn't locate the open wifi of one of my girlfriends neighbords. Then I didn't check that much. Now I'm with my grandparents in the middle of Madrid, I have started wereiller and I see 11 wifi points, 5 of those points are not protected at all (6 have WEP) then my zaurus is unable to connect to any of the open points.

My conclusion after testing a lot is that for some reason it simply doesn't work for a open connection. I have even tryed to uncheck the ESS-ID and write down the name of the SID, then wrote the IP and DNS (even if there is a DHCP I have got then from my computer) and there is no way the cacko isn't connecting at all on the open wifi, the auto connect option is sometimes checked sometimes not (tryed both) what I'm not doing okay ???? I simply don't understand, with WEP it works without not...

Sharp ROMs / Some Questions About Memory Management
« on: November 16, 2005, 12:08:38 am »
also as for installing ipk on the hd, I have founded a very confortable solution, I install the ipk's on the home and then I move the dictionary and big files under /hdd3 and I just do ln -s and it works very well, I don't need to format nothing at all. so for exemple, I have zdict installed but the dictionarys are under /hdd3/dict1 same goes for slJisho and kioku dojo. It suits me very well, I have nearly all the applications I desire on my zaurus and I'm using 51 Mb of the 89 avalaible for my home, that means I can still install more apps without caring for space. On my 700 space is a real trouble, I try to install the ipks into my sd card and even then I must select the programs I want and what not, because I have trouble fitting all of them.

Sharp ROMs / Some Questions About Memory Management
« on: November 16, 2005, 12:04:09 am »
humm, now is a little more clear. I have 128 rom, 64 ram and the hd. The 64 ram I can see it, is used to execute programs, fine, then the 128 rom I have 32 root folder (not using lite anymore) and 89 home wich makes 121, but then I know that when you format and partition a hd some Mb disapear, so then I'm very fine with those 7 ghost Mb, I think that is normal. And the 10 Mb of temp storage ? where it is hosted, inside the ram, or the rom or the hd ? I just want to know better my Zaurus.

As for lesser battery usage, I don't know, before the 1.23 I didn't use my 3100 really, I was mostly using my 700, so I can't compare, I know that the sharp rom clocks automatically the cpu depending upon what you do, so if you do nothing it will underclock the cpu, if you open an application the sharp rom will put the cpu to normal speed, thus prolonging battery life. On the cacko rom on the other hand, the cpu speed doesn't change automatically, it stays always at standard speed, then is normal it uses more battery, even worse, you can overclock it, then shorten life span. My sugestion is that you try to underclock it for a day and try to see how long it stays.

I have got a second battery (one of a 860) it seems to work very fine with the 3100, now I have readed that you can get an external battery charger and change the battery on the run, I will get one, but I want to be carefull, I don't want to fry my internal battery charger as my 700  to use my 700 I'm using the 3100 to charge the 700 battery, not very confortable. Also, I have a PSP, is very confortable(no need for several chargers) as I use the charger of the PSP on my 3100 and it works wonderfull.

smuffle, I installed zdict from Tomoe and also Kakasi and another library eb_4.2v02 zdict works pretty well, as for the dict files you need to relink them for zdict to see them

cd /home/QtPalmtop
ln -s /hdd3/dict1

I putted all the dictionarys into /hdd3/dict1 and erased dict2, zdict works perfect. Thanks Tomoe

I have a small bug, I installed 1.23 lite on 3100 and everything was okay, I formated and installed 1.23 full instead, everything went very well, then I went to the package manager and logged to the cacko feed and putted plenty of packages (around 20 ipk or so) among those ipk are the japanese support ipk, now when I reboot the machine just keep initializing, it doesn't end his initialation. it shows the please wait... starting linux and Qtopia blue screen, then switch to black, wait 5,4,3,2,1 then back to the blue again, then again wait 5,4,3,2,1 then back to the blue one, it never ends...

anyway, I will format again and reinstall again and try installing less packages at once

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Wellenreiter And Kismet On Cacko
« on: November 10, 2005, 11:03:48 pm »
on a side note, now that we have wereiller and kismet working how about a link to step by step cracking tutorial ?
I understand the theory, I use kismet and were to find networks and get their MAC adresses, computers connected, etc, then I use aircrack tools to provoke very high wifi trafic and force the AP to send identification keys to his clients, then I grab as much of those packets as I can and then I try to figure out the WEP key out of those packets. Then, the theory is very okay, but then I know nothing of how to use airodump, aireplay and I don't know what else... I saw that wereill can dump those packets, but then I played around and my zaurus got a full memory trouble... :'( I guess I will need to do a big ram swapfile for wereiller and kismet... anyway, the point is a link to a tutorial would be fine. Also I understand that you are getting your hands full with zdict, kismet, wereiller kioku dojo (I hope you port this one, it gives a japanese message error, and my japanese is low level) anyway, you don't have the time to write tutorials with is very understandable, so a link would be nice. Also it would be nice a tutorial section on the forums, to put all tutorials and links to tutorials together in the same place.

In the end thanks a lot for sharing the knowledge you posses, without you we would not even have kismet and wereiller and zdict and more

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Sl-c3100 Usb Mini A Adaptor ?
« on: November 10, 2005, 05:16:17 am »
I have readed that I need a mini A usb adaptor if I want to plug stuff into the 3100 Zaurus (ex: camera, ipod, webcam, keyboard...) I seeked in Denden town in Osaka and everywhere I finded only mini B adaptors, I found not a single mini A adaptor... then mini B is only for plugging the Zaurus to the computer right ?
humm I'm not sure anymore, can anyone tell me where in Osaka I can find that mini A to USB A adaptor please ??
do I really need a mini A or I could use a mini B adaptor to plug stuff into the Zaurus ?

Sharp ROMs / Vnc Viewer Refresh Rate
« on: November 08, 2005, 09:41:51 pm »
The refresh rate of my vnc viewer is very low, around one refresh per second... I have putted 1 millisecond refresh but, for sure it takes much longer, is barely usable... I'm on cacko 1.23 sl-c3100
thanks.

edit : in fact is when I open a new window or move a window, the redraw time is long, when I click on a folder or icon, it react kind of okay.
