Well, the MPlayer project has made a Windows port for both MPlayer and MEncoder. It's still in beta, but I can make MEncoder for Windows encode movies that will work with MPlayer on the Zaurus using this command:
Code: [Select]
mencoder.exe "insert_video_location_here_in_the_script" -srate 44100 -vop scale=320:240 -o movie_name_that_you_want.avi -oac mp3lame -lameopts preset=15:mode=3 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=msmpeg4 -ofps 15 -sws 2The change in the vcodec section represents the use of DivX3 instead of DivX 4 or 5, which seems to be the only one that MEncoder encoded and MPlayer plays. That command encoded a 1 hour and 30 minutes movie to around 102MB, so it'll fit nicely on a moderately-sized CF card.

EDIT: I should've mentioned before, I'm using a 5500 with the 3.5.3 Hentges ROM (uses MPlayer 1.0-pre7).

Wow. How'd you get that setup?

It's fixed, the Hentges ROM seems to have it preinstalled .

Positive, although I'm going to switch to the Hentges ROM (is using the stock 3.5.2 rom right now), heard good things about it. I'll reply if I get it fixed or if it still doesn't work

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Nethack Problems
« on: February 10, 2005, 06:32:42 am »
Nope, the size is fine, yet it refuses to install. However, I am using the stock 3.5.2 OZ ROM, that might be the problem. I've heard enough good things about Hentges to motivate me to switch.

I'm getting an error from SDL whenever I try the binary:
Code: [Select]
Z_Init : Allocated 8064Kb zone memory
Could not initialize SDL [No available video device]
Any suggestions?

It is an old package (2002). Is there any way to force the installation? I've tried enabling all the force options in ipkg to no avail.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Nethack Problems

I downloaded the opie-nethack package from the OZ feed, and when I attempt to install, this is the output I get:
Code: [Select]
Cannot find package /mnt/cf/opie-nethack_3.4.0-2_arm.ipk
Check the spelling or perhaps run 'ipkg update'
I downloaded it to my CF card and am opening it from there, so I don't see a reason why the package manager won't find it. Any ideas?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Opie Player 2 Crash
« on: January 08, 2005, 01:28:31 pm »
Did you remember to install a skin? Opieplayer2 works alot like xine, you need to install alot of skins and libs.

PS: If you get it working, I'd be curious to see how well it works with movies, I didn't get that working and moved to xmms, but mplayer is horribly slow.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Wireless Trouble
« on: January 08, 2005, 01:23:08 pm »
I'm having trouble setting up my Ambicom WL1100C in OZ 3.5.2. When I try to connect to a network, I get a quality of 0% and a signal of 71%, and those values never change. I think it might be a problem with me not having prism2_usb or wlanctl-ng, does anyone know where to get those if I need them (I looked in the OZ package feed, nothing there). If not, what could be the problem?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that my wireless card DOES start the interface, it just has those percentage problems, and I can't ping the network. It seems to want to use wifi0, and never uses wlan0.

Ok, and I link libs installed on the ramdisk to the root FS with ipkg-link?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Opie Partitioning Oddities
« on: January 03, 2005, 07:27:41 pm »
I recently got Opie 1.2 with OZ 3.5.2 (48M for RAM, 16M for storage) on my Zaurus, and it's very good. However, when I look at the storage info in the sysinfo program, I see many entries:
Internal Storage /dev/root: 14M
Internal Memory: 15M
Internal Memory: 23M
SD Card
CF Card
What mystifies me are the many internal memory entries. The root directory (first entry) has only 904KB free, which makes installing libraries and programs near-impossible. Where's that 23M of internal memory coming from? Is there any way I can repartition the memory to make the root bigger?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Bricked Sl5500?
« on: December 21, 2004, 04:58:19 pm »
I think I found the problem for me: I didn't make sure that the images were downloaded fully, and they were corrupted! My zImage file was 189KB when it's supposed to be 889KB.

By 'engages fully', do you mean hold it down for a while or something? I'll try it, it is pretty hard to know whether it works or not :S.

Nope, nothing still, even after I took the cards out of both slots. I can press the D+P combo, and that lights up the mail and battery, but nothing else. Anything else?
