I find that my 5500 is warm to the touch on the back when I'm sshing into it while it's in the cradle, but other than that it's fairly cool.  If it's out of the cradle, it never even feels warm.

When the Zs plugged in or being charged it gets pretty warm.  So im assuming that your chargeing it in the cradle but not when you take it out?

Hi;

I just looked and did not find that directory: /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/dic on my sl-6000.

- I just did "mount / -o rw,remount" and wiped the /usr/QtPalmtop.rom/dic directory, which contains the Japanese dictionary.  Sweet!!!  Now I have a whopping 24MB in the "ROM" area to put applications into permanently, like opera, BlueZ, and KDEPIM, so they don't consume "User" storage.
- Actually, I could put 2/3 of everything I have loaded on Z into that space.  (wolfish grin)  There's something attractive about having a fuly customized app suite and 50MB free in main storage.
- Stunning, to be able to just re-organize stuff like that!  Thanks Tumnus!  You're just a font of useful information...

The SL-6000 does not have the Japanese dictionary on it.  I think only the C seires has it.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / One Last Chance For Oz

I've tried to install Opera every which way and only got it working briefly once (the 7.55 OZ version). It stopped working after I then installed OpieMail.

I would try running opera from the command line to see if something got unlinked somehow.

Quote
1. Uninstall previous Opera (7.3 something). "all opera references"
2. Removed all opera directories (find / -name opera and .opera and delete them)
3. Grabbed the package ref'd at the start of this thread.
4. ipkg -d sd install <pkg name>
5. ipkg-link add opera
6. ln -s /mnt/card/opt/QtPalmtop/opera/.opera /home/root/.opera "this may be done"

These steps were from OZ 3.5.2 (packages were installed to /mnt/card/ instead of /mnt/card/packages)  so step six would now make an empty symlink (opera_7.55_OZ3.5.3_arm.ipk should do this automaticly)

axxx - make sure sharp compat libs are installed
a1. grab the sharp-compat-libs from the 3.5.3 feed
a2. ipkg -d sd install <sharp-compat-libs...> from where ever they ary
a3. ipkg-link add sharp-compat-libs
a4. restart opie to get the icons
a4. run either the libs icon or "makecompat" to link opera to the libs
a5. you should be ready to go.

Im pretty sure opie-sh is also need to use the compat libs so you need to install and link them too.

Don't know who posted it.
I have the following versions of Opera:
opera_sl-5x00-7.30.9965_arm.ipk
opera_7.55.6079_arm.ipk
opera_7.55_OZ3.5.3_arm.ipk

opera_7.55.6079_arm.ipk and opera_7.55_OZ3.5.3_arm.ipk are basicly the same except I repackaged opera_7.55_OZ3.5.3_arm.ipk so that it would properly set up the symlinks with OZ 3.5.3 on a sd card (the /mnt/card/packages thing).  It also fixes a problem with large images by increasing the cache.

I have had a GREAT DEAL of difficulty in getting the sharp-compat-libs to either download or install properly so maybe someone could walk me through that
I just use the package manager to downloaded and installed everything for me.

Or is this just a very bad ROM??? And I should wait until it's fixed.

Boy, when I first used to go on the old Sharp forums a couple of years ago, everyone used to constantly brag about Open Zaurus and how great it was. Was it once great and has sunk to new lows or what?? I'm just glad I didn't try it before I had 2 Zauri to fool around with. blink.gif
I think OZ is still great but it is unstable, so you either need to know some different things about it or have a lot of time to figure them out (I'm the later ).

All you should have to do is install opera_7.55-OZ3.5.3_arm.ipk and then use the compat libs to link it.  If that doesnt work for some reason run it from the command line and go from there.

You'll get it just keep at it and think of how cool it'll be when you have everything set up!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Error Message - Can't Locate Makecompat

I have done this and now I get;

"error while loading shared libraries: /opt/QTPalmtop.compat/lib/libqpe.so.1: file too small"

When I get this it is because to file has somehow gotten corrupt (If  you look at the size it will most likely say it is blank).  Either copying the file over or reinstalling usually works for me.

Maybe it will for you too!

I didn't really set anything up.  Just make sure you're using the Qtopia Deasktop from the web site and not one that came with your Zaurus since they use different formats.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Errors When Installing Ipks
« on: May 26, 2005, 08:58:05 pm »
Usually when my icon does not find makecompat its because i need to "ipkg-link add sharp-compat-libs".  For Opera I suggest you download the ipk below.  It's MrSquishys repackaged package, repackaged      of Opera 7.55 for OZ.  It correctly links the directorys and fixes the cache issues but must be installed to the sd card.

Hope it helps!!!

Note: Make sure there is no /home/root/.opera or /usr/share/opera directorys before you install and it must be installed to a sd card

Accessories / Formating Cf

I have a SL-5500 and a 1GB Sandisk Ultra II CF card.

I have tried the card in my MP3 Player and It just freezes on me so I thought I would try it in my PDA.

The PDA picks up that I have inserted the CF but it does not let me read the contents or even shows so that I can.

I want to format the card so that I can see if that works but I dont know how. I have looked all over the place trying different things but I stil can get it to work.

I have done:
umount /dev/hda1
mkfs.ext2 /dev/hda1
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/cf

and it does not work.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=81604\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Remember, though, if you format your card ext2 your MP3 Player probably wont be able to read it.

And the initdr the same way. Yes I checked that. When I open my CF card I only see "initdr" and "zImage" no extensions added to them.
I just redownload the files and re-flashed my Zaurus. The lights remain on for about 2min and 10 sec. After that I take the CF card out of my Zaurus, press the reset button, slide the normal operation button and turn my Zaurus on. And I still get the Sharp screen with a blank cursor on the lower right side, then the Zaurus turns off.

Make sure its initrd.bin not just initrd (im assuming the initdr was a typo).  Also keep in mind that Windows sometimes hide extentions if you are looking at them  with the default file browser, you may not see extentions that are there.  Maybe try looking at them from the command line?

ipkg-link looked for loaded packages information in /media/card not /media/card/packages. In order to align ipkg with ipkg-link it was necessary to remove the /package dir from all the dest directives in /etc/ipkg.conf.

I just ipkg-link mount /media/card/packages and everything seems to work.

Glad to see it work.

If it crashes a lot modify /home/zaurus/.opera/opera.ini to increase the cache sizes to the max and then copy the file to /root/.opera as CaptainZilog suggested.

Happy Surfing

Did you use the ipk from this thread?
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...2&hl=opera&st=0

If you did the postinst set up the links wrong(I think it was for 3.5.2).

You'll want to remove some things
Code: [Select]
rm /home/root/.opera
rm /home/root/.operasave
rm /usr/share/opera

and then redo them
Code: [Select]
ln -s /mnt/card/packages/opt/QtPalmtop/opera/.opera /home/root/.opera
ln -s /mnt/card/packages/opt/QtPalmtop/opera/.operasave /home/root/.operasave
ln -s /mnt/card/packages/opt/QtPalmtop/opera /usr/share/opera

I hope these things get it going!  (Just think how good it will feel to search the web with Opera on OZ  )

Did you do the ln -s /home/opt/QtPalmtop/opera /usr/share/opera trick and link the package with ipkg-link (if you installed to nonroot)?

Heres Sharps page that describes installing an os pack on a 5500, the 5000D should be the same.

http://www.myzaurus.com/ROMupdate5.asp

With that being said I strongly you keep at OZ!  It's a little tricky but so fast and cool!!!
