C1000/3x00 Hardware / Pivot Head Wobblyness

First thing to do would be to make sure that all external screws are tight enough (not *too* tight!). If you put the zaurus in "laptop mode" then turn the screen 90 degrees from there you can see two screws on the hinge. Tighten those if they need it.
Thanks for the reply!
Checked those already, they are tight alright!

Ok, the good guys at Conics ( thanks Brett! ) put it up online again so I'm set.
If anyone here is willing to share the dictionaries of the newer models (C3100/C3200), let me know.

Hi all

I need the data that usually resides on the C3x00s' harddrives - dictionary files and possibly the gps/map
app data - I'm primarily looking for the dictionary files.
Conics used to have copies of the CDs that came with C3000 online at http://pda.conics.net/c3000/cd-apps/
and the copies had that data, but that page is no more.
Could anyone point me to another download location or perhaps put the CDs online if possible (maybe make a
torrent of it?)? You'd make one Japanese language student very happy! I did have them but lost them
(and a lot of other stuff) moving back from Japan.

Thanks!

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Pivot Head Wobblyness
« on: October 15, 2008, 01:41:59 pm »
Hello all

For a long time, ever since I dropped it once, my zaurus' screen mechanism was a bit wobbly.
Nothing that would prevent me from using it, but it finally got on my nerves and I decided to fix
it now. Could anyone give me some advice/pointers?
BTW, the wobblyness is not in the screen lifting but the screen rotating part, so the screen panel moves
a few mm to the sides when in portrait mode (only if I push it with my finger, not on its own).

Thanks!

C1000/3x00 General discussions / C3x00 Encrypted Dictionaries

Hello everyone, long time no type!

I am not familiar with EPWING format tools and a friend who was skilled with them has gone AWOL (wallabee, you alive?) so could someone with knowledge and expertise tell me if it's possible/viable to extract/copy the data from the encrypted dictionary and create a non-encrypted (but same in all other aspects) on the Zaurus itself, ie putting libeb and libzsecure to use?

Thanks!

General Discussion / Forget The Zaurus - ItÅ› Fujitsu Time!

Fujitsu webshop has them for 117432 Yen now, which is about 950USD.
No mention of BT but you get a 3-year warranty.

I'm still planning on getting a kohjinsha, but this thingie is not so bad either, gonna have to check what it looks and feels like. If only kohjinsha wasn't such a toy... less unused space around the screen + a better keyboard would make kohjinsha a real winner.

I wonder if newer ROMS specifically perform this blocking of the USB cable (and other network interfaces) while connected to KWINS/Bitwarp services. This would be very annoying, but I could imagine that it's possible.

Does anyone know anymore about this? Tomoe?

Heh, I had this thread on mail notify, and I even forgot about THAT! Imagine the surprise.
Anyways, didn't really look in on it after this thread, checked both KWINS and BitWarp (which offers a similar PDA plan).

Indeed there is a form of blocking going on, that's why KWINS PDA works only with a limited number of devices (Zaurii and maybe 2-3 WinMobile machines); in older Zaurii it was implemented purely as an installable driver but the newer models have the functionality built in the ROM on shipping.

From what I've got, the USB port AND the IrDA port are blocked while the KWINS card is being used. I understand their motivation behind this, because they're charging 1/4 of the regular price counting on PDA users not downloading too much. What I would like is for someone with a C1000/3000/3100/3200 and a KWINS card to check if the host mode is disabled too; if it is not, then you could just plug a usb ethernet or wifi module in and router away! It is probably easily hackable anyway, just not enough of the userbase for people to really mess with it. If I ever get it, I know I surely will. No japs will limit MY internets!! =P

See ya!

I don't know if this has been mentioned, quick search doesn't show up anything on oesf.org, but anwyays, here it is:

Simple and relatively small GPS module, just so you know.

New products and alternatives / New Zaurus Successor?

I checked the original review in Japanese, and indeed it does not have a touchscreen. Major minus. Other than that, I'd be ditching the Zaurus in favor of this machine + HTC Hermes combo in a second.

NO, hardware limitation

12Mbps is USB 2.0  OTG is part of the USB 2.0 spec what you want is "high speed" which i think should be called "full speed" as its backwards to me
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=145198\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
How about a CF->PCMCIA adapter + PCMCIA USB2.0 card?
I don't want/need full 480Mbps, just more than 11Mbps (mini harddrive+wifi+VGA card, maybe also LAN and BT). What I'm actually planning to do is to make a snap-on 'dock' for my Z, with this stuff and an aditional battery. And don't tell me to wait for your OpenPDA cuz I don't want to pay for it with my first pension check. =P

Duly noted and corrected, thanks. I always mix the two of them.

Anyways, really, no way of pulling it? What about CF USB cards and stuff like that?
Or anything... Anything!

Gentlemen,

What are the possible ways to get a high speed (i.e. 480Mbps) USB bus on Zaurii?

HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES? (apples being WVGA displays-on-chip)

The article says that a 5" one is coming soon too.

1) Some kind of body proximity and/or contact sensor, to determine if the machine's being held (close).

2) keyboard lightning as discussed, also light detector, which has many uses - activating keyboard lightning, setting the backlight level and so on. I guess it would be possible to use the near-screen mounted camera for this so it is more of a software issue then.
