Sharp ROMs / Sl5500, Sharp 3.13 Roms & Opie 1.0.3 Pim Syncing
« on: May 29, 2005, 02:23:31 pm »
Hi,

I have an SL5500 which is installed with the Sharp 3.13 ROM image.  I have installed the Opie calendar, address book and todo list applications from the Opie 1.0.3. on Sharp feed.  I have also installed the Opie security application from the same feed.  How do I get it to sync?

After trying OpenZaurus 3.5.3 I reverted to the Sharp ROM because of what I use my Zaurus for.  The Sharp apps seem best suited.  Basically the lack of web browser together with the inability for the media player to actually see the MP3 files on my 1Gb CF card made it fairly useless.

But I am now using a Mac as my main machine and need to be able to sync with it.  So I installed the Opie apps so that I could write an iSync plug-in for Tiger that could read/write the XML files (rather than the DTM ones which you get with 3.1X).  But as a test I tried to sync with Qtopia Desktop.  No joy!

I know USB networking is working (with help from the OS X Zaurus USB network driver) because I can telnet in to the Z. and I can mount it as a server on my Mac.  Looking at the source for various sync servers,  they connect to the Z. on port 4243.  Interestingly 'netstat -a' indicates that something is listening on port 4244.

Does the DTM sync use a different port to the Qtopia/Opie sync?  Is the Sharp qpe library modified or is something missing?  As a pro-tem fix I have added a sym-link to allow me to access the files via Samba but has anyone got synching working with this software combination?

It's usefull to read documentation isn't it
Yes it is.

Unfortunately I didn't see this in the download docs associated with the kernel I found it by searching the forum.

Is there a FAQ where this sort of thing can be stored to be found easily?  I.e.

Q. Why doesn't my T610 work with my Zaurus.
A. Because the Zaurus' software is broken.  But...

AFAIK, IRDA with T610 doesn't work.
That's a load of bollocks.  It works fine provided you use the cacko patched kernel if you are using Sharp ROM 3.10 and above.  The 2.3 series work out of the box.  It also only affects dial-up.  OBEX works fine on all ROMs.

It seems I was missing the magic incantation:

Code: [Select]
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/irda/max_tx_window
echo 1000 > /proc/sys/net/irda/min_tx_turn_time

Adding that and it works.

I would still like to know what people think of the blue monkey BT card and how they have found it with SonyEricsson phones.

Ah that's the magic incantation that is missing.  With that I can now talk to my SonyEricsson T610 and use GPRS.

Thanks

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Kernel & 3.13 ROM -> Still IrDA problems!

This weekend has been 'interesting'...

On Saturday I finally took the plung and reflashed my Zaurus SL5500 with the Sharp 3.10 ROM.  Apart from the rather cack icons the update looked well worth while.  Until, that is, I tried to dial up using my SonyEricsson T610 which always worked with the 2.38 ROMs.  It didn't work.  After research I found various posts to do with using the 3.13 ROMs and using the Cacko 32-30 patched kernel.

So yesterday evening I reflashed my pride and joy.  I had a couple of panics along the way when I had thought I bricked it.  I seem to get a recuring problem where by the kernel cannot find the mtdblock1 superblock.  A couple of reboots seemed to crash the PDA but also fix the problem at the same time.  So finally by about 10.00pm I had a reflashed PDA with the Cacko kernel (I get a penguin splash screen) and the 3.13 ROM.  I've also added a few extras like the IrDA applet and nice icons.

It looks great and does everything I want it to do except it still doesn't talk to my phone for dial up.  The IrDA applet shows that the phone is discoverable and you can transfer information using OBEX its just that it does work as a modem.  Are their scripts that are needed to be hacked?

Alternatively I may have to hit my credit card.  What are peoples experiences of the bluemonkey bluetooth card and my set up.

Thanks

Cyber.
