Zaurus - pdaXrom / Is Pdaxrom Alive?
« on: July 12, 2009, 09:07:45 pm »
I still check back every month or two for interest's sake, but I haven't posted in almost two and a half years. I probably haven't touched my Zaurus in just as long.

pdaXrom was the closest I ever got to making it a useful device, but never quite got there (the 6000 seemed to miss out on a lot of the good stuff). Doesn't look like that's going to change any time soon, but I might get it out and play with it again one day. It's amazing to think that it's still quite a powerful device by today's standards even though its four years old!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Feed For Tosa?

@karito or anyone else: I'm hoping someone with a Tosa can chime in here.  How many folks with a Tosa have tested other feeds and packages (including the ones at the sticky above)?  Any war stories, success stories?  Anyone gotten firefox to run on the Tosa?
I run Firefox too (when I can be bothered waiting for it to load). I also install apps from many feeds RC12 through beta3 and generic ones posted in threads here without hassles (except those marked as beta4/r121 only).

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Feed For Tosa?

If I recall correctly, the SL6000 feed is the smallest because there aren't that many packages specific to it - everything else comes from the C760 etc feed. rc5/rc11 are quite old now; there should be beta1/beta3 feeds.

The official Samba howto is a little more than two words, but it is pretty good. Try the "Fast Start: Cure for impatience" section or whichever suits what you are trying to achieve, you don't have to read much to get some useful info.

Samba doesn't normally require much configuration unless you're setting up a server. If you can browse the shares then you should be able to mount them with the exact same configuration. If you can only see them and not browse, it could be password problem - make sure you set not only a user and password, but also a workgroup when trying to mount.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom Contrib?
« on: January 21, 2007, 03:55:20 pm »
I kinda like the idea of putting all contrib packages in one place, so you simply have one official set and one unofficial set. Each package could be still be attributed correctly to the contributor, it would surely be easier to maintain as a feed (also doesn't require users to be constantly adding feeds and searching for packages), and it would avoid some double-ups etc.

This appears to be the issue - firstly your end is asking for pcomp and accomp which is rejected at the remote server (probably not an issue), and the remote server is asking for you to authenticate via PAP which you are refusing to do. I'm not sure what the line 'No auth is possible' means, but I'd start by making sure that you have your pap-secrets file set up correctly and the ppp settings are correct for PAP authentication (don't require the remote server to authenticate itself though).

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Possibly Odd Behaviour When Using Linksys Wcf12
« on: January 12, 2007, 02:12:50 pm »

Each time I insert my linksys wcf12 into my r121 C760 another instance of /proc/registers is created. After 3 insertions, for example, I have 3 entries in /proc with the exact same name "registers".

Is this normal ?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=150917\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Take a look at dmesg before and after insertion to see what drivers are being loaded and whether any of these is unnecessary. Whether normal or not, I doubt it would cause any harm...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / How Do I Print To A Networked Printer?
« on: January 02, 2007, 04:57:17 pm »

Well, I thought that I would try and set it up exactly like my other linux boxes. I downloaded the hpijs ppd file and installed it using the web interface. It gives me an error saying it can't find the 'foomatic-rip' filter. I downloaded that from HP, but it needs to be compiled. Has anyone already compiled this?

**PARTIAL SOLUTION** I downloaded the generic postscript ppd from the linuxprinting site and now I can print a test page. Unfortunately, the printer is not showing up in any of the applications like Abiword.

Applications normally need to directly support cups to show a list of printers automatically, but even when they don't, you can usually enter a print command (use the cups lp or lpr commands).

As I understand it, many HP printers don't support postscript at all, and the foomatic filter converts postscript to PCL. I haven't tried using this on pdaXrom (straight postscript printers only).

You don't need a cups server to use cups on pdaXrom, but you will need the correct printer drivers (including the foomatic one for HP PCL printers). Using another machine with cups server can be a useful workaround.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Dir_colors

thanks. I figured it out. the ls in busybox doesn't support LS_COLORS. I compiled my own copy of ls from the coreutils sources and all works
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=148767\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
That's interesting - I haven't figured out what settings were changed (it might not even be the package I thought it was) to make it work for me, but I'm still using the busybox ls.

I want to change the colour of the directories when displayed by ls in a bash script. I tried generating the values for LS_COLORS and exported the env but it doesn't have any effect. Also, there is no DIR_COLORS file under /etc
I compiled dircolors so I got the right colour string, but it doesn't appear to be working. What else do I need?

I'm using Bundabrg's pdaxrom-patchlist ipk, which does all this stuff. I've never looked at the contents, but it all works:

Zaurus - pdaXrom / How Do I Print To A Networked Printer?

It was in the web GUI. Permission denied with configuring my networked printers but also when in the administration page it wouldn't allow changes to the config file, like hiding shared printers... and it had asked for my name and password and I was logged on as root.

I have since reflashed my Z and will have another go after I have decided which WM to stick with.

OK we were on the right track then - it is the security settings in cupsd.conf.

You need to put in user 'root' and your password into the browser auth box, but then it should work with the short conf file I gave you (but only from the same machine).

Are you sure that you have the cupsd.conf in the right place? I found the one on my Z installation in non-standard place...

Ghostscript already there. Whatever I do... permission denied. Logged in as root, don't get it. Will scrub the config files, uninstall, restart, reinstall, and if that doesn't do it simply give up.

Pity, printing would be simply so good.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=148277\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I'm wondering if I have been leading you up the garden path from the start...

Where *exactly* are you seeing permission denied? When you use the web interface to configure printers, it asks you to manually enter a name and password - judging from earlier posts perhaps you already have this working...? Any problems with the web interface or not?

If you are seeing permission denied when trying to print to an already configured/installed printer, then it will be the configuration of that printer. What sort of printer? Networked? Does it require authentication? Or are you printing via another cups server?

Tried it, but no. I get permission denied when trying to configure any printer. I tried printing from SciTE and got this message:

>a2ps "cupsd.conf"
sh: a2ps: command not found
>Exit code: 127

Is it that I am missing something vital?

Cups restarted with the small cupsd.conf by the way, so I am hoping nothing is too out of whack.
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
SciTE does the same thing for me (never tried printing from it before!). To fix that problem I imagine you'll need to install the package that provides a2ps (probably ghostscript?)

I have printed from Abiword, Firefox via CUPS. I would recommend simply browsing to [a href=\"http://localhost:631]http://localhost:631[/url] and configuring the printer and printing a test page first though. If you're still getting permission denied, I'm not sure what is happening (you must browse from the Zaurus, not another machine as the cupsd.conf above only allows local access).

I haven't seen/heard from Xromer in any of the forums here in some time... perhaps he is taking a break?
