New products and alternatives / Please Tell Me I'm Not Mad
« on: November 19, 2008, 08:58:19 am »
Thanks chaps, it looks pretty enough for me but I have low standards in many areas.

I've already decamped to the umpc portal so I suppose that this is goodbye.

Had it for just over a week and like it very much and am still running xp and haven't done much yet as it was supplied with an invalid prodict key which is still to be resolved.

I got a B1s which has a 32gig ssd.

there is a port of ubuntu available but the wiki is all in Korean so I will want to do a lot of research before doing anything because, although I was active on here a few years ago I am not a linux afficionado and apart from installing roms on my (now retired, but nothing wrong withit, just needs a new battery) sl5500 I've never installed linux on anything so I would want to be certain that I could revert to my xp rather than bricking it and it looks a lot like a brick now.

As is often said the screen is outstanding in its clarity and brightness.

I've only lurked for the last few years since the software/distributions for my 5500 dried up but, in a moment of madness I've just bought one of these  http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...em=170273247758.

It's already got xp and office professional and was at a good price.

I thought that I could dual boot linux and replace my 5500 with it as my new toy.

Any comments?

@Charlie: Try the latest altboot installkit tgz from 06-feb, right near the top of the page. Remember to rename zImage.bin to zImage. It still freezes midway through boot but I can use altboot to let me get a shell. I will poke around and post my results.

Update: apparently ipkg-cl configure fails on boot. I'm not sure if this is enough to make it not boot or if there is another issue. trying to ipkg install foo.ipk results in a segmentation fault as well. No ideas right now.

please let me go if you get an image to boot and I will try it out.

Well I've tried all available .jffs2's here http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unsta...tobuild/collie/
and my collie doesn't flash them, just the kernel, definitely renamed .jffs2 correctly to initrd.bin.
As these appear to be the only Angstroms currently available can anybody provide me with a link to a version that they know works so that I can rule out user error on my part?
I suppose really that I should join the mailing lists etc over on Angstrom before I get flamed by a dev.

So Charlie, Did you have any luck when trying on collie?

I don't have the time now to try it myself, but I don't miss your comments.

Greets.

Nothing working yet.
It seems to flash the kernel ok but I've tried all the different .jffs2 files renamed initrd.bin and nothing seemed to work properly.
mail and charging light only came on for a minute or so, not like a proper flash.
May have another go this weekend and will let you know if I get anywhere.

I know the answer is somewhere but I read this forum every day and I've looked and looked.
I now feel ready to risk trying an Angstrong on my collie.
the only image that I can currently find for collie is here http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unsta...tobuild/collie/
I can't find specific instructions for installing on collie.
It's fairly easy to work out the Zimage bit but of the possible combinations of file for the opie image do I rename initrd.bin.
I've tried to rtfm but I can't find it.

Thanks

Charlie

Don't hold your breath. I reckon it will take another year to be on retail.

Due out imminently.
It's close to the top of my wish list.
I wonder how much it will cost.

That's what I was thinking about and I would dearly love to install it but not until it in a more useable state.

It seems that there's less and less of interest to those of us with a humble sl5500 these days as all the developers have newer and shinier toys.

Even Mr Hentges seems to have moved on.

Still, you've got to expect that if you're a dinozaur.

Much as I love reading about this potential device and I would seriously think about buying one as soon as there is a stable operating system.

I want to know, are we any closer to building one than when this thread started in 7/6 (if you're american 6/7)?

Chill Dan

I think that the cold wind from the moors must be getting to you.

I was merely pointing out that Danboid is a perfect anagram of David Icke and wondered if you are the same person as the former Coventry City goalkeeper.

If it's any consolation I'm sure that everybody thought that the Rochdale Pioneers had some funny ideas too, but too many capitals, fonts and colours in a signature does seem a little odd.

That's what we've all been hoping for to rejuvenate the platform as Collie interest has waned considerably on the board recently.

Does Danboid = David Icke?  He thinks that all the world leaders are 12 foot high lizards but we just can't see them properly.

« on: January 06, 2007, 08:07:42 am »
Sync is greyed out because Qtopia(pc)  doesn't think your z is connected

Qtopia desktop/File/Settings/General

make sure that the pda ip in there matches the one on your Zaurus eg. 192.168.*.*.

Does this help?

As I say oz requires with Qtopie Desktop versino 1.7.  It may be worth considering changing to this.

Having just done this last night I hope that I can help.
The Sync options were greyed out on my Qtopia Desktop until I put the IP address into the synch options on the desktop ie. 192.168.0.100.  (The instructions were in the manual)

You do not state which Z you have.

Are you sure that you have the correct verion of Qtopia on?  On OZ you have to sync with Qtopia 1.7.

Good luck,

Charlie
