For Sale / Wanted / Fs: C760 And/or C3100
« on: February 16, 2007, 03:11:34 pm »
Neither of my Zs is getting the use it deserves these days, so its time to call it quits, at least partially. I want to sell one or both, although if one sells and the other doesn't, I won't be too sad.

I have:

a c760 in good nick. There are some scratches beside the words "Personal Mobile Tool" because of the little rubber bits on the lower edge of the screen, but that's all. The screen is in excellent condition, and has much better contrast than the 3200 in my view. In fact, the build quality is better generally.

It comes in its original box and manuals, but no CD or power supply. There is a USB cable for charging, and a serial cable which got be out of a few tight spots in its time. There is a spare lower capacity battery and battery cover.

The c3100 is in perfect nick. No scratches anywhere. Also boxed, and also with no CD. Manuals and UK psu are there, though.

The following bits and bobs are also available, either with or separately:

1 x 4GB Dane-Elec CF card
1 x 4GB Sandisk CF card
1 x 1GB Integral CF card
64MB Sandisk SD card
256MB Lexar SD card
Pretec bluetooth card
Socket low power ethernet card

There's also a IO Data CFXGA VGA out card, but I don't know whether it works, and I can't be arsed trying to find out (I could never get it to work with PDAXrom), so I'll throw that in for free for whoever buys one or both of the Zs.

Payment by cheque or money transfer, and delivery is at cost.

So, let me know if you are interested ...

Cheers,

Mike.

General Discussion / Bluetooth Woes
« on: June 05, 2006, 04:32:16 pm »
Hi all,

Just bought a Pretec CompactBT (OC-BTEXX-A). I'm running pdaxrom beta1 at the moment ... I've no real inclination to upgrade just yet. Its stable for me, and its doing what I need day to day.

Here's what I'm seeing in /var/log/messages:

cardmgr[485]: + Done.
cardmgr[485]: socket 0: Pretec BT2000E Bluetooth Card
hcid[4813]: HCI dev 0 registered
/sbin/hotplug: no runnable /etc/hotplug/bluetooth.agent is installed
cardmgr[485]: executing: './bluetooth start hci0 2>&1'
cardmgr[485]: + Starting Bluetooth... Done.
hcid[4813]: HCI dev 0 up
hcid[4813]: Starting security manager 0

When I try to connect to the phone (a Motorola SLVR), I'm seeing:

pppd[5181]: Failed to open /dev/rfcomm0: Host is down

Can anyone give any pointers?

Thanks,

Mike.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Reboot Mount Problems
« on: March 26, 2006, 05:19:59 am »
I rebooted and something has gone a tad screwey ...

I can't run any kind of terminal ... it complains about there not being enough ptys. The reason for this is that /dev/pts is not being mounted correctly at startup. It can be mounted manually outside of X, and then I can start terminal apps again inside of X.

The SD card isn't mounted on startup, although it does mount correctly if I manually mount it outside of X.

On startup, I'm seeing the following messages:

VFS: mounted root (jffs2 filesystem) readonly. (I can't remember if this is normal?)

Definitely not normal is this:

Cannot create link /etc/mtab
perhaps there is a stale lockfile?

Can anyone give me a pointer?

Cheers,

Mike.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Bestcrypt 1.6 Compiled At Last
« on: March 23, 2006, 11:46:39 am »
I finally got time to get bestcrypt 1.6 compiled for the 2.4.20 kernel, and it seems to work.

It has run into one problem though ... no /sbin/mkfs. bctool makes the container file, but can't format it.

The various other mkfs files, mkfs.msdos, mkfs.ext2 etc are there, but its stuck without plain old mkfs.

Anyone any suggestions?

Cheers,

Mike.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Cross Compiling On Vmware Image
« on: February 23, 2006, 04:08:05 pm »
I need a bit of help. I have compiled the latest Bestcrypt from within the vmware image, but when I try to run it, I'm getting the following error:

/usr/lib/libkgsha.so: undefined symbol: __divsi3
Can not load key generators

Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Cheers,

Mike.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Mkipkg Problem
« on: February 23, 2006, 12:41:17 pm »
I've compiled the latest version of Bestcrypt. I set up vmware player with the cross compile environment as in jerrybme's howto.

The make and make install went fine after a bit of messing with the makefiles.

When I run mkipkg against the temp directory, I'm getting the error:

tar: --exclude=CONTROL: Cannot stat: No such file or directory
tar: error exit delayed from previous errors

Everything seems fine ... all the files and directories are there, including the CONTROL directory with the control file.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Cheers,

Mike.

For Sale / Wanted / Fs: C700
« on: February 22, 2006, 06:00:27 am »
Make a 100USD donation to pdaxrom.org and its yours. I'll sort out the postage cost (consider it a joint donation to a great "ROM.")

Very good condition, no scratches on the screen. Hinge is tight. There's a 32MB sd card and a spare battery. The charger is a Japansese type, but rated for worldwide use (i.e. up to 220v).

General Discussion / I've A Colleague Going To Japan
« on: February 14, 2006, 04:52:30 pm »
I'm gonna retire my 760 into the hands of a mate, and replace it with a 3100 instead. Question is, how to get my mitts on it. I could buy from Figlabs and get the extra service. Or I could take the risk of a warranty problem and save the hundred quid or so by buying from PriceJapan.

Does anyone have any advice about the cost of buying in person? Is it any cheaper to buy a 3100 in person, rather than from the likes of PriceJapan?

Cheers,

Mike.

Sharp ROMs / Copying Files
« on: February 08, 2006, 02:33:24 pm »
I have Cacko 1.22 lite on my c760. I have the latest Mepis on my desktop, based on Debian Etch. USB networking works fine, I can ping, ssh, vnc etc. I can copy files using scp to internal flash until I'm blue in the face.

BUT, if I try to scp a file to the cf card, it stalls. Every time. I have to restart the network on each end to get things fired up again. So since I'm a bit stuck for space on the internal flash, this has become a bit of an issue.

I've had a look around the forums, but no joy. Anyone seen this before?

Cheers,

Mike.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Xmms Drops First Second Or So
« on: December 18, 2005, 08:20:12 am »
I'm testing RC12 at the moment, with e17 (thanks daalnroti!), on my C700. If I could find a solution to xmms missing the first second or so off mp3s, I would put this on my main Z.

I seem to remember this being listed as a bug in an earlier RC. Anyone ever find a solution?

Cheers,

Mike.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Evaluating Pdaxrom
« on: April 21, 2005, 09:45:19 am »
I'm taking a look at RC9 for the first time. Seems pretty good!

Just one minor problem that I've noticed others commenting on as well, but haven't seen an answer to. And that is the settings for Justreader. It seems that the settings page will save settings for every tab except controls1.

So I need the keycodes for the <OK> and <Cancel> keys if anyone knows them, so that I can edit Justreader.conf by hand. Anyone?

Thanks,

Mike.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko 1.22 & Vnc Server
« on: March 16, 2005, 06:01:15 pm »
Anton, or anyone that might know ...

I installed vnc server from the feed on my new 1.22 lite installation on my 760.

Anyway, the server seems to run fine, but for some reason, despite tssimd running, the mouse and keyboard don't work in the viewer.

Also, the usual installation procedure is install the ipk, reboot, touch the corners of the screen to write /etc/tssim_cal.conf. Except there's no tssim_cal.conf written.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

By the way Anton, thanks, this is a superb ROM.

Cheers,

Mike.

Linux Applications / zgcc question
« on: September 14, 2004, 04:22:41 pm »
I've given up trying to cross compile mysql. I have scoured the net and found many people asking the same question: how do you get past the configure script trying to run test applications built for arm/other in a cross compile environment. Lots of questions, no answers.

Its weird. The configure script tests whether or not it is running in a cross compile environment, and then seems to ignore the fact that it is. As I mentioned in a previous thread, the mysql developers know about this, and posted that they would fix it on the mysql mailing list. They haven't yet.

So I thought I would get zgcc and all installed on the Z and try building that way.

The configure script is complaining that it can't find linuxthreads. libpthread is on there, at least, so my question is, does anyone know where I should put the linuxthreads header files? I'm assuming /usr/include or some such place, but this is stretching my experience, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Mike.

Software / Compiling recent version of MySQL
« on: September 08, 2004, 06:49:27 pm »
I'd like to get a more recent version of MySQL on my Z than that available via the ZSI (3.22?). It seems to me to be a potentially easier task than editing the install scripts for many recent versions of php/mysql applications that are out there which use data types which are unsupported in version 3.22.

Has anyone any opinion whether this a safe assumption? Has anyone tried compiling a recent version for the Z, and would like to share the experience? (I think jp40 was attempting it?) If not, I'll give it a go and post the results here.

Mike.
