Accessories / Joysticks On The Zaurus
« on: January 19, 2006, 07:04:14 am »
Has anyone actually managed to play one of the emulators with a joystick on USB host? if so, any instructions on how to do it?

The joystick is recognised by the Z, but I don't know how to use it in any games or map the keys......

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Please Help, Usb Host Problems!
« on: January 17, 2006, 04:28:32 pm »
Just got a 3100, its great - really pleased with it. But I cant mount anything on USB host.

Ive tried pdaxrom, cacko and am about to try OZ but am starting to think it is broken. I make a directory, try to mount and get

mount: mounting /dev/sda1 /mnt/test failed: no such device or address

This is the same on my camera, hard drive and usb memory stick - no luck with any

Also havent got the mouse working either, ive tried everything ive found on the forums.

Connecting the zaurus to my linux desktops works fine, the zaurus hard drive is loaded in kde, so i think it must be the host cable. But it was brand new.

Plese someone help, perhaps I am missing something stupid out.........

Thanks.

So excited my 3100 is almost here, and my gf is alreaady comandeering the 860 and installing midnight commander. I think its cleared customs as the EMS tracking says:

Jan 11 23:07    Arrival at inward office of exchange         CVT    UNITED KINGDOM
Jan 11 23:11    Awaiting presentation to customs commissioner         CVT    UNITED KINGDOM
Jan 12 9:41    Departure from inward office of exchange         CVT    UNITED KINGDOM

I figure the next step in the chain is delivery, so i have a few questions:

1. Has anyone got the 3100 cacko/sharp dual booting like the 3000 with pdaxrom off the hdd?

2. Whats the status of openzaurus (3.5.4?) on the 3100 (and kernel 2.6 if its ready at all)?

3. Any good partitioning tips (from the veterans) before i take the plunge and get rid of most of the fat partition - i dont really see the point in keeping it around as i rarely come in contact with windows machines.. are there any other advantages to a nonlinux filesystem on the 3100?

4. How hard is it to brick the 3100, and how easily can i recover it?

5. Hows the bsd, can it dual boot with qtopia or triple boot with pdax/qtopia/opie/gpe on the hdd?

6. The obligatory 'does anyone know anything about UK customs and how was it for you'?

Sorry to ask all these questions, ive been around here long enough to know that most of these questions are already discussed somewhere on oesf. But i haven't posted in ages so i wanted to say something anyways.... also my web host dissapeared last night with all 32 of my hosted domains and lots of the sql backups so i am really busy setting up servers and don't have the time to hunt for answers this week....

thanks in advance for all the useful help :-)

1.22 is a great rom for me, but I cant seem to find an Infra red applet anywhere? Is this no longer a feature, or is there some package I need to install?

Thanks

(I found the brightness applet in the battery meter one but still cant find the infra-red one :-)

Zaurus - pdaXrom / RSS Reader - Newsfeed (Python, tcl,tk Based)
« on: November 01, 2004, 05:47:18 pm »
I discovered today that the NewsFeed RSS reader (written in python, tcl, tk) works nicely on pdaXrom with dillo, thought some other people might find this useful.
Get the newsfeed program from  http://thor.prohosting.com/~mdoege/newsfeed/ i used the latest version (1.8).

It also needs tcl, tk, python, python-crypto and possibly some other python libs from the pdaxrom feed. Apart from that, just decompress the tar.gz file and then run ./newsfeed

If you want to open links in dillo, just type export BROWSER=dillo at the shell prompt before running newsfeed and it should work like a dream.

Its not the best program for reading RSS feeds but i havent found another one that runs easily on pdaxrom (that isnt console based). Not sure how one would ipk it, maybe someone can do that and put it on the unstable feed? Hope this helps someone anyways...

Software / Zbedic
« on: October 21, 2004, 07:25:13 pm »
firstly, thank you for whoever coded/compiled this for the zaurus - the wikipedia dictionary has won me countless arguments :-)

Would it be possible to make the scrolling apply to the definition rather than the word list? that way you could scroll down a definition without using the stylus or touchscreen. (and also with the jogdial in tablet mode).

Also, if there was more space for the definition or it could be shown in full screen without the word list - it would be much easier to read long definitions or wikipedia articles.

I know there is little chance any coders (i have no idea where to start) would feel like making these minmal changes to perfect zbedic, but maybe someone has some time on their hands - and i seem to remember the zbedic maintainer/coders frequented this forum.

Also, is there a chance of a version for the pdaxrom?

Thanks in advance....

What: NotCon \'04 - an informal, low-cost, one-day conference on things that technologies were perhaps not intended to do.

When: 11am-7pm, Sunday June 6th, 2004.

Where: Imperial College Union, Beit Quad, Prince Consort Road, South Kensington SW7 2BB (nearest tubes South Kensington and Gloucester Road).

Cost: £4.00 on the door, £3.00 concessions (ie students, under 18s, OAPs, the unemployed, any webloggers not covered by one or more of the previous categories).

Thought maybe some other uk zaurus users might be there, looked interesting....

Cxx0 Hardware / Joystick for Zaurus snes9x
« on: May 24, 2004, 11:59:08 am »
I want to try and get a joystick/gamepad working on my 860, without buying a usb cf host card (too expensive at the moment), and i figure there are 3 ways of doing it:

1. Infra red controller  - using irk maybe or lirc  - this seems like the easiest way for a non-guru like me to get it working, all that would be needed is a new keymap for irk afaics... does this sound right? also i cant seem to find a cheap infra red game controller anywhere either, any ideas? (im in the uk)

2. Serial port controller - Getting a serial gamepad/joystick and plugging it into the Z\'s serial port - this  would require making a special wire, out of the realms of my technical skills - and probably porting a driver...... however it would probably be the most stable solution.. Anyone want to build a serial z gamepad for me? - for reward obviously :-)

3. Some type of overlay that fits over the zaurus keyboard, like the joysticks for nokia phones - it would provide a joystick/stick and easier to control buttons which would make it easier to play on than the almost flat buttons (which are actually pretty responsive)... This may not be so feasible, but again i may be able to build something usable quite easily from random pieces of game controllers - if no-one can help with the other solutions i guess this is the route i\'ll take...

Apart from the lucky guys who have the usb cf host cards (or 6000\'s :-)) How are other people playing snes9x and other emu\'s on the Zaurus? any creative ideas for control or controllers?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Wikipedia on pdaXrom
« on: May 21, 2004, 09:17:04 am »
Ive been using zbedic to access wikipedia offline on my zaurus, is there any way of doing this under pdaXrom (without running an sql server/web server)...

I want to move to pdaxrom but find wiki in my pocket sooo useful... Any help would be much appreciated...

(Also on a separate note, has anyone managed to get the pocketop ir keyboard working in pdaXrom sucessfully - any instructions?)

Cxx0 General discussions / compiling abiword for the zaurus
« on: March 22, 2004, 10:01:31 am »
Could anyone help me with getting started compiling for the Xqt server? I would really like to get abiword working under xqt, i really miss having a real wordprocessor :-)

I have a 5500, C860, and linux boxes running debian, can anyone help me set up the right compilers, im a bit of a linux newbie but would like to get stuck in...

(I realise abiword is working on the pdaxrom but i prefer qtopia rom at the moment and would like to keep using it)

Perhaps there is a way to use abiword from the pdaxrom on Xqt without recompiling (gimp from the pdaxrom feed works nicely on xqt), does anyone have the extra libraries needed?
