5x00 General discussions / 5600 Calendar Invalid Data When Syncing
« on: September 21, 2006, 02:17:45 am »
I've got a stock 5600, Sharp rom and it's been working flawlessly for longer than I can remember. I sync it using Intelisync to my Lotus Organizer several times a week.

Now all of a sudden, I get a message that the calendar has invalid data and to use the repair function of the Zaurus to fix it when I try to sync. I even tried syncing to the Qtopia Desktop with same error...

Umm, what repair function? Can't find any reference to anything like it? I have searched for days looking for any info on the calendar data and repairing it. No luck so far...

I may have the option of erasing everything and then re-syncing with the desktop, but I'd lose quite a bit of data doing that.

Does anyone have a clue as to what repair function the software is talking about? Does anyone know how to repair the calendar data? I found all the files in the dtm directory but can't do much with them.

As I said, this is all pretty much stock Sharp. Qtopia 1.5.4 with rom 1.32.

Yes I know there's better out there, but I like my Z just the way it is, or was anyway.

Thanks for any help...

Windows Issues / 5600 Intellisync And Lotus Organizer Help?
« on: March 12, 2006, 01:45:17 pm »
In the hopes there's a simple answer...

I just installed my 5600 Intellisync (and the full version of Intellisync) on a new laptop running XP. It works great and sync's fine with the Qtopia desktop so communications os no problem.

When I try to sync with Lotus Organizer, it give me a data base access denied message...

I do have a password on the Organizer database, but this has never been a problem on my WinME desktop where I sync every other day or so.

Anyone have any cluse as to how to get this sync to work on the laptop with XP (media edition [home]) Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks...

General Discussion / Run the battery dead, what happens?
« on: June 19, 2004, 01:57:32 am »
Since switching to the Z, I have been afraid of letting the bettery run down. I\'ve kept it charged and bought the Semsons external battery just in case. But after all the reading I\'ve done about the Z, I have yet to see it clearly stated as to what happens if you do run the battery down all the way?

Will the Z give a warnig and then shut down, saving enough battery power to keep alive for a while? I\'ve done this on my old Clie several times with no ill results. But what happens on the Z??

If I kill the battery dead, what is lost and will the Sharp backup program restore everything to the state I had it in before the battery died?

Or do I really have to worry about running the battery down?

Just thought this would be a great question for the newbie forum...

Okay, I made a major screw-up. After my D-Link 660 blew up, I just ran and ordered a new card. Prices all about the same, so I ordered the Socket low power card. It\'s supposed to work great after all... But not the new version.... That\'s what I get for not keeping up...

I\'ve searched & read dozens of posts from people in similar situations, non posted about getting the card to work...

So, has anyone ever gotten this new rev B card to work?  This is the card that reports:

Product info: \"Socket\", \"CF+ LP WLAN Card Rev B\"
manfid: 0x0156, 0x0003

Supposed to have the \'agere\'(sp??) chipset...

I\'m not sure it\'s returnable after opening? And who wants to order yet another card...

Thanks for any help...

5x00 General discussions / Beam Device is Busy???
« on: June 04, 2004, 01:47:49 pm »
Now that my wifi card is dead, I\'ve tried to connect with my IR modem to get my updates. This normally works just fine. I have everything set up and working. But, if it doesn\'t hook up right with the modem, the Z seems to keep the \"Beam Device\" as \"Busy\" and I can\'t try to reconnect. Last time this happened I finally did a reboot to get back the beam device.

There must be a way to free the \'beam device\' without doing a reboot? Anyone know how? Anyone know if there\'s a fix that might prevent this from happening?

Thanks!

5x00 Hardware / Is my DCF_660W wifi card dead??
« on: June 03, 2004, 03:51:27 pm »
Before I try returning it for warranty repair, I thought I\'d give asking here a shot in case I\'m missing something obvious (which very often happens)...

I plugged my D-Link 660W card into my 5600 last night for some net updating. As soon as I plugged it in, I noticed some screen lines and the Z was locked up. I didn\'t want to just pull the card out so I did a hard reset. The Z came back up as normal, but the 660 won\'t be recognised now...

Now if I insert the card one of two things happen. I get the screen noise and lock up, which will go away if I pull the card out...
Or, the card\'s light stays lit and it won\'t be recognised by the Z.

I played with cardctl (suspend, resume, reset, insert, eject, ident) and all seem to work except the ident. Only once out of dozens of tries did I get an ident on the card and almost a network connection. Then the card failed again and I couldn\'t repeat it...

My memory cards work just fine and so does the camera card. So it looks like the Z is okay. But is there any software config that could produce this with the 660? If not, then it hopefully goes back for repair... I just don\'t want to send it back if it\'s something in the Z from being reset?

Thanks for the help!

User Request for Applications / Pinball & solitaire
« on: April 28, 2004, 03:51:08 pm »
Okay, I got bored and decided to post, but maybe someone will either write it or point me to where it exists...

First, I need a decent pinball game... Don\'t know why? Love to play it on my palm device, but can\'t find anything for the Z...

Next. Would someone PLEASE do a solitaire where you don\'t have to drag the cards across the screen! My all time favorite game and there\'s a couple of nice ones out there but I hate dragging the stylus across the screen...

Anyway... Thanks

I probably did this to myself, but I\'m terrible at remembering or documenting the changes I make...

But recently I noticed that if I connect to my 5600 (sharp rom 1.32) to my desktop through the cradle/usb, then disconnect, I can\'t make a samba connection. I have to reboot the Z in order for samba to work. I thought this used to work, but I don\'t usb connect too often so I might have missed it.

I also thought there was a thread around here with a similar problem, but my searches didn\'t find it...

If anyone could suggest some things to check, I\'d much appreciate it. This isn\'t a killer, but it is a bit annoying.

Thanks...

Software / Zaurus <-> windows winpopup chat messsaging????
« on: March 05, 2004, 12:43:26 am »
On our network, we occasionally use winpopup to \'talk\' from computer to computer. Mostly fun when someone is deeply involved in a game
I\'ve been searching for something on the Z (5600) to communicate with windows, preferably winpopup, so I could do the same thing with the Z. I haven\'t been able to find anything at all.
I have found out that winpopup is basically an smbclient -m to: msg...
I haven\'t found an smbclient for the Z... And I don\'t know if that would work anyway?

Anyone have any ideas or know of any compatible software?

Thanks...

Software / Konsole Konfusion?
« on: February 26, 2004, 02:33:21 pm »
First thing, I\'m using  opie-embeddedkonsole_1.5.9-2_arm.ipk that I got form handango a while back when I first got my Z. I like it and have no real komplaints. I do have one minor problem though. It has a command drop-down menu at the top that is supposed to be editable.
Well, I can edit it, the edits are saved in  /home/root/Settings/Konsol.conf and /home/zaurus/Settings/Konsol.conf (same file, smae settings).
The changes in the command menu are save as:
[Commands]
3 = mynewcommand
4 = anothercommand
EditEnabled = False

(I tried setting EditEnabled = True, didn\'t do anything)

The edits I make do not appear on the command menu... But they stay in the Konsole.conf file...

Does anyone know if this is a bug or do I have to do something else to get this to work?

The Konfusion part comes from my searching for a newer version in case htis was a bug. When I searched for \'opie konsole\', I found the _new_ version is 1.03 from the opie web site. Okay, so maybe someone took the opie-konsole, compiled their own verision as 1.5.9.2 and released it? Maybe it\'s not related at all? Anyone know? And is there a newer version of opie-embeddedkonsole_1.5.9-2_arm.ipk? Is the opie 1.03 the same thing? I couldn\'t find any pictures...

Anyway, thanks for any help...

General Discussion / Printing from a Z?
« on: January 22, 2004, 12:02:41 am »
Running through at trying to get my new 5600 to do everything I need/want, I\'ve run into printing. It seems to be missing. I\'ve read some posts about copying or beaming text to the ir port. But I\'ve seen and found nothing about true printing from a Z? I can understand how difficult it would be to supply printing services to programs that don\'t have it built -in. But this is linux. Isn\'t there some way to mount a network printer? Even if it\'s just for ascii output from the clipboard... It seems a bit odd to me that noone (that I have found) has tackled this. Certainly beyond my capabilities at the moment. But someone out there with the capabilities must need printing?
Or have I just missed something very obvious???
Anyone have a clue how I could print to a network printer???
Thanks!

5x00 General discussions / CF card lost, almost... Help!
« on: January 19, 2004, 02:32:00 pm »
Now I\'ve gone and done it... After getting the wireless working, samba working, shares working, and being very happy, I go to plug in my CF card to install some new stuff and the add/remove installer won\'t see the CF card.
A little more checking: Backup see the card but says it can\'t find how much free space is available so it won\'t let me back up to the card. Software that I have installed on the card run. I can see the card in /mnt/cf and /home/samba/CF_Card. I manually installed a package from konsol from the cf card. I can mount and eject the crad. My cf network card still works.
Doesn\'t look like a hardware problem. But either something happened to the card, or I messed something up in trying to get samba working?
Again, if anyone can offer some advice on what to do or where to look, I\'d much appreciate it. And, aren\'t there any \"chkdsk\" type programs for the Z?

How do you folks put up with us newbies? ;-)
Thanks!

5x00 General discussions / run smbmount script from desktop icon?
« on: January 18, 2004, 03:59:29 pm »
I finally got smbmount working and can now mount a directory from my winme machine. That\'s great and I can play mp3\'s or videos. First problem was I had to mount from root. Took care of that with sudo. Then I figured there had to be a way to do it from a desktop icon. I read the faqs here and search the net. I managed to set up an idon and script for the mount & unmount. Problem now: They don\'t work...

The mount command I use is:

/home/root/usr/bin/sudo smbmount //mywimmebox/music /home/zaurus/Documents/mypc -o username=Rich,password=password

This works if I just type it into embeddedkonsole.
To make a script, I just copied that into a text editro, added  #!/bin/sh as the first line and saved it as a script file.
It seems to run? But I can\'t find any log files to help find out why it doesn\'t work and of course I get no messages when run from the icon?

Obviously, I\'m not too familiar with linux. I\'ve run a couple of linux boxes here and plan to very soon again, but I\'m just stumped with this.

If anyone could offer some help or pointers, I\'d greatly appreciate it. Probably somehting as dumb as not getting the smbmount to work in the first place...
Thanks...

Security and Networking / Trying to samba to a winme machine?
« on: January 15, 2004, 02:29:39 pm »
I finally have given up after days of searching, reading and modifying .conf files. It all sounded easy to share a directory from my winME machine to the SL-5600. But it doesn\'t work for me... So I\'m here for help...

I have a  D-Link 660W CF card in the 5600 connecting to a Linksys WRT54G router. I can use Opera on the net just fine, even e-mail and Jabber. I can ping the other computers that are wired to the router.

I have read all the posts here (and everywhere else I could find) concerning samba and smbmount. I have made changes to my .conf file and that didn\'t help. I\'m out of ideas. I have read that samba doesn\'t start unles you connect to the cradle & USB. So I started samba as root with the same results.

When I enter the  smbmount //192.168.x.x/mypc mypc -o username xxxx all I get is:

\"session request to 192.168.x.x failed\"
\"session request to *SMBSERVER failed\"
\"SMB connection failed\"

Same messages if I use the computer name instead of IP.

I have tried so many different things that I can\'t even remember them (sorry). But if it was suggested in a post, I\'ve tried it...

I did change the .conf interface to eth0, then back to usbd0, then to usbd0 eth0 so I could synch again...

Anybody have any ideas? Could I have a different network problem than samba? Just because ping works doesn\'t mean anything else does. But I\'m not sure how to test it? TCP and the basic network is obviously working because I can get on the internet with the 5600. I just can\'t seem to talk to the other computers that are wired into the router, other than ping...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have a hard drive full of mp3\'s I\'d like to listen to, and not one at a time on a cf card ;-)

Software / are there any newsreaders?
« on: January 13, 2004, 01:18:09 pm »
I\'m looking for an on-line/off-line usenet newsreader for my SL-5600 and any help would be greatly appreciated!
I have searched the net, here, and everywhere I can think of with no reasonable results.
Did I miss something obvious?
On my CLIE, I use Yanoff to get newsgroup postings. Read & reply off-line, then connect and transfer. It\'s only got a modem connection, no wireless.
I would like to do the same thing with my SL-5600, especially now that it\'s wireless...

Thanks for any help...
