Debian / Can't Untar Armel-root-fs.tar.bz2
« on: February 09, 2008, 09:15:31 pm »
I am trying to install EABI on my c860, but the untar of the root-fs to ext2 formatted 2GB SD fails with "tar: decompression failed" and "tar: Short header" I have re-downloaded and done the checksum. Am I missing something?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Custom Icons
« on: April 17, 2007, 04:21:50 am »
Sorry this is such a cosmetic post, but I am trying to customize the look and feel of my desktop/panel. I am running pdaXii13 with openbox/rox on my c860.

Anyway, I have edited some of the application icons in the pixmaps folder, recreating 48x48 pixel png files with an alpha transparency. They appear in rox just fine, and if I drag them to the desktop there they are in all their glory. (Got to admit to just revamping some from OSX Tiger, but maybe I'll get creative when I've got it to work.) But... In the panel or panel-menu they just apear as scrambled, interlaced fuzz. I wondered if there needed to be smaller versions, but rox is able to display reduced size versions on the fly with no problem.

Perhaps I need to output the png differently - I am using Fireworks - but I am stumped.

PS. Recommend any icon editors?

Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Freeze When I Change Cf Card
« on: May 11, 2006, 04:34:01 am »
My SL860 freezes when I take out either a card or wifi card from the cf slot. Complete lock-up. I am running beta2 with xfce4.
If it is a bug with beta2, can anyone suggest a workaround? I am almost resigned to shutting down whenever I want to swap out the CF. I am using the matchbox card applet by the way. Happy to use terminal if there is a code or script that will get me past this.

Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Surviving Updating The Rom
« on: April 02, 2006, 12:12:00 pm »
Count me as a newbie when answering this query. I would like to know how I preserve my settings, documents, and if possible my installed applications when installing a new ROM.

I would like to use my Z more, but what holds me back is the fact that unless I have my documents on a card, I lose everything when I update the ROM. I would like to be able to preserve my whole environment as far as possible. I can't afford business critical documents to be inaccessible while I get my Z back to where it was before I reflashed.

Thanks for any help!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Wake Up Gone Flakey
« on: February 16, 2006, 03:21:28 pm »
I hope this isn't something to do with the screen flickering mentioned in pinned thread, or I wouldn't have started this thread. My problem is just that on wake-up any open applications crash while they flash on and off the screen. Dillo seems to survive, but big apps like Firefox crash, or at best get backgrounded.

I am  presently running the beta but might go back to an earlier rc if no one can help. I am not convinced it is the beta though, as I saw it happen with rc12 before I reflashed.

Thanks!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / What Configs To Back Up?
« on: August 08, 2005, 07:01:30 pm »
I have just screwed my pdaXrom installation trying to emulate a mac on the Z. (See other thread). I just get a grey screen with an x in the middle when I type startx.

I don't know what file I overwrote. Is there a list of files that I can copy, stash on a card, and then restore to get normal functionality back on these annoying occasions?

Thanks

UK / Where To Get A Z Fixed In Uk
« on: August 04, 2005, 08:17:07 am »
I have a dead SL5500

Fixing it is beyond me, so I would like to lnow where to get it fixed, as Sharp doesn't seem at all interested.

If I can't find anywhere that will do it cheap, I'll put it up for grabs for spares!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Mac On Pdaxrom?
« on: August 01, 2005, 07:49:20 pm »
I asked this somewhere in a thread about emulation, but I suspect that either nobody wants to emulate a mac on their pdaXrom, or that the thread had got tired and had run its course.

Anyway, I remember getting Basilisk working on my 5500 before it died. I would really like to do the same for my 860, but with the pdaXrom of course. Better still might be Sheepshaver.

I know that we are talking max OS8 for Basilisk and OS9 (I read somewhere) for Sheepshaver, but I know the 860 is more powerful than the mac I first ran Quark Xpress on. That would be so cool...

Anybody able to help?

And while I am asking, as both Basilisk and Sheepshaver are limited to 'Classic' mac OS, would Appletalk work if the ethernet worked?

Thanks

J

PS. Having a Z I could stick Quark on would be cool. Scribus (native to the Z, not emulated) would be really great (better) too!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Minimised Windows In Rox
« on: May 13, 2005, 06:01:43 pm »
I installed the ROX filer ipk and modified .xinitrc so it is now my window manager. But I still have the launcher/widget bar at the bottom of the screen that comes with pdaXrom.

However, when I minimise windows they just disappear. How do I get them back? I tried fluxbox sometime ago, and if you minimised a little icon for the window would appear on the desktop. But not with ROX.

Also, if I send a window to another desktop, it also seemingly disappears.

Any advice anyone?

Thanks.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / is ext2 or 3 the only choice for SD card?
« on: October 31, 2004, 12:49:11 pm »
I'd like to install things to my 64MB SD card, but I understand that FAT is just no good for installing applications on with the pdaXrom. Unfortunately my SD card is a SanDisk that works well as FAT but is hopeless when formatted ext2 or ext3. Are there any other formats I could try that it might behave better with and that I could install applications on?

Deals and Great Z Buys / 1GB SD card £58 Aria.co.uk
« on: October 20, 2004, 04:31:00 am »
Has anyone tried this 1GB SD card? Assume the (Kingston) 512 MB OK? But 1GB is Aria own brand.
SD card

I need to use it in ext2 format.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / virtual keyboard not appearing
« on: October 19, 2004, 10:12:52 am »
rc5 - virtual keyboard (sorry not sure what it is called, but it is the one in the menu bar) no longer pops up. I've installed Gimp2 and Quake. It was working before then. Any ideas?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / wifi - competely stumped
« on: October 15, 2004, 08:12:19 pm »
I thought I would go back and try pdaXrom having used the cacko qtopia rom on my c860 for some time.

I had previously tried it some months ago, but could not get the wifi card to work. And I still can't. First - out of the box - it thinks it is a Farallon card. But cardctl ident shows it to be something else, an Intersil card.

What do I do with the information I get from cardctl ident? Other threads say I stick it in a file called wlan_ng, but my install doesn't have this, though it is in my sl5500 running the TKC rom. Also I have been looking for the prism2_cs (or is it the prism2_cs.o?) that my sl5500 also has but my pdaXrom does not... and yet I gather that my particular card should 'bind to it', rather than orinoco, which I also don't have anyway!

So I am stumped, and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Outliner?
« on: May 27, 2004, 12:12:36 pm »
Are there any outliners for the pdaxrom? I am using Stage One! on the Qtopia ROM and it is holding me back...

A gantt chart app would be good too!
