Sharp ROMs / Cacko - Inserting Sd Card Freezes Interface?
« on: June 10, 2007, 10:39:28 am »
I'm so close to having my 'perfect' Zaurus! Just got my wireless card working but now I have inserted my SD card it freezes the whole interface, cannot use the touchscreen or keyboard to any effect.

If I remove the card though it instantly goes back to working properly. I don't think it is the card as I have been using it since I got the Zaurus, and have flashed the Z three times with it.

Does anyone have an idea why it could be freezing the interface?

Sharp ROMs / Cacko And Planex Gw-cf11h - Can I Use It?
« on: June 09, 2007, 04:07:05 pm »
Hey all me again

I rememeber finding a thread before I actually got my Zaurus regarding my wireless card - Planex GW-CF11H - and Cacko, and the method required to get it to work. I saved it to my favorites but after switching between windows and linux and reformatting I seem to have lost it

Before I dig through every thread on these bords does anyone know how I can get this card working on my Zaurus with Cacko 1.23 FULL? Currently when I click the card icon in the bottom right it says "Eject card 0: unsupported card"?

*** EDIT : FIXED *** SEE POST BELOW

Sharp ROMs / So What Exactly Is Cacko?
« on: June 08, 2007, 05:16:30 pm »
Hey guys,

I do kind of get what Cacko is but I'm still a bit confused about how exactly it differs from the original SharpROM. The features lists just look like changelogs from the previous versions of cacko not the chnages to the SharpROM, so could anyone summarise briefly what cacko is and how it differs from the SharpROM please? Would be greatly appreicated.

Thanks!!

Hi guys,

As cool as pdaxii3 full is I am just finding it way to slow for my needs. I'm very impatient and just can't handle waiting between 5-20 seconds for things to load everytime I need to use them.

I am planning to try cacko first instead of going back to SharpROM, but have a couple of questions about the changeover:

1) Will I need to reformat the microdrive myself beforehand? Or will the installer do it for me?

2) Do I need to reformat/repartition the root partition on the Zaurus? I had to change it to 121 for pdaxii3, so do I need to change it back for cackoROM or doesn't it matter?

3) I read somewhere that cacko loads lots of things from the SD/MMC card to free up memory, but does it actually have to do this even with the 3200? I'd rather have it all run from flash/microdrive if possible?

Thanks to any and all who help answer my questions

Sorry me again

I'm going to Spain on tueday and want to take my Zaurus, but only just realised I only have the UK adapter for it. So I was wondering is it going to be OK to use the original plug, going into a UK adapter that I have, and then going into a two pronged spain adapter as well? That would mean there was two separate adapters on the end of the plug is that possible or will it damage my Zaurus?

If its not possible then what adapter will I need to get? What is the default Zaurus plug/voltage/country?

Thanks for your patience with me guys, is massively appreciated hopefully soon I will be able to help someone myself hehe

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Xampp On Pdaxii3?
« on: May 19, 2007, 05:58:24 pm »
I have a 4 hour train journey coming up on tuesday so thought it would be good to do some (albeit very slow) development work on my zaurus to pass some time. I am therefore looking to setup a local development environment and was wondering if XAMPP will work?

I just tried installing it but it said there was not enough space in /opt mid way through extracting (thats where it said to extract it), and when I tried extracting to a folder in the /data partition it came up with lots of permission errors.

Has anyone managed to get XAMPP working on pdaxii3? Is it possible and if so what am I doing wrong?

Hi all,

Sorry yet another question. I'm using a mini-B USB cable to try to transfer files to my Zaurus from my laptop, and my PC detects it (as an SL-1000 strangely), however when I click on the 'removable disk' in my computer it just says to "please insert a disk into drive E:".

Am I missing something or is there an issue with PC transfer using 3200/pdxii3?

C1000/3x00 General discussions / How To 'right Click'? ;o

OK possibly the stupidest question ever but how do I right click (or equivalent) with my Zaurus/pdxii3?

Thanks

Hey all, I've just installed pdaxii3 full and all has gone well. However on the interface there is an icon that looks like:

SC [ima]
IM  [ge]

You can drag it around the desktop however it keeps jumping back and hovering over the X menu in the bottom right corner so I have to move it every time I want to access the menu. I can't figure out what it does can anyone tell me? Also can i move/remove it somehow?

edit: Took a screen shot which shows the offending icon:

[img]http://www.varidev.co.uk/misc/gsnapshot.png\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /]

Also, the screen is not automatically rotating when I rotate the screen, I have to manually choose to do it from the menu. Is there anyway I can get it to do it automatically?

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Hi all,

Have been reading this forum heavily since I have got my Zaurus a month or so ago and finally figured out how to get validated today (thanks again admin for the fast response!) so heres my first post

So university is almost finished, and I'm looking forward to getting properly into using the Z now my work/revision will be done. Anyways I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the ROMs available; I have read lots of posts on this forum and gone to the ROM sites but still don't know which ROM to install and what will suit me best.

I would really appreciate if anyone could give me a quick rundown or summary of what each ROM is in a nutshell, what it is good/bad for, and ideally peoples experiences with them as well?

To put my needs into context I am starting a web development company with my friend after university so reliability is important, as is the ability to sync data between machines and ideally use a fully fledged browser like firefox if possible. I'm not very linux savvy but I have been using Fedora a bit in university, and have ubuntu feisty fawn as my primary OS now but I'm still right at the beginning of my linux adventure. The linux side of the Zaurus was partly why I bought it though so I am willing to learn!

Sorry for the length of the post but I really would appreciate any and all suggestions for how I can make the most out of my Zaurus with a new ROM. The default is OK but I don't like the contact manager issues with English alphabet, as well as the missing text in some menus/configuration that should be in Japanese it gets very confusing. Also just excited about trying something new!

Thanks in advance to any and all who contribute.

Richard.
