For Sale / Wanted / Gone as quickly as it came (SL-6000 for sale)
« on: June 01, 2004, 12:07:11 pm »
My eagerly awaited SL-6000 finally came on Friday... along with the worst week of weather in recent memory.  I\'m going to be a couple grand in debt fixing damaged vehicles and siding.

My company has offered to issue me a PDA however they only will issue iPaqs, Dells or Toshibas.  The fiance strongly suggested taking them up on the offer and tossing the 6000.

So, I have an SL-6000 in excellent condition for sale.  This is the BargainPDA review unit that I recieved on Friday (May 28th).  It has all original cables, packing, and media... in fact, the scratch protector is still on the plastic screen protector.  I\'m asking $585 + actual shipping for it.

I also have a GoldX universal USB cable that is usable for the USB host in the SL-6000... add $10 if you want it as well.

Contact me at lil_mikey@lilmikey.com if interested.

General Discussion / Video Samples
« on: May 28, 2004, 10:29:35 am »
Alright, I don\'t have my Zaurus yet but something that appeals to me is the ability to drag movies around in my pocket.  So, I\'ve been spending my well paid work hours encoding videos in a number of ways in order to understand what can be accomplished with very low bitrates.  At http://www.lilmikey.com/zaurus/video/ there are currently a growing number of encodings of the same video clip at various resolutions, file sizes, and audio bitrates.

Now, I don\'t have a ton of bandwidth so I beg you, be nice.  If you have a strong desire to download a clip at a certain resolution then spare me the overhead so other\'s can test it out as well.

6000 - Tosa / Look at me, I own a Z!
« on: May 23, 2004, 04:12:23 am »
Well, I\'m now the proud owner of an SL-6000.  The USB host and built in WiFi outweigh the clamshell design for me.  I won the E-bay auction for the bargainpda review unit.  It\'ll hopefully be here in a matter of days.

Software / Anyone know about FPSE?
« on: May 22, 2004, 09:35:52 pm »
In the past few months people have been making some noise about a PSX emulator that apparently works well on PDA devices.  It appears to be quite mature on the PPC and a guy porting it to the Z was making some progress as for Mar 28th but no word since.

Some references:
The PPC version\'s homepage: http://www.fpsece.net/news.php
The thread started by the Z developer: http://www.pdai.org/forums/index.php?showt...opic=1148&st=30

Check out the compatibility list, it\'s pretty impressive.

General Discussion / USB Host question
« on: May 17, 2004, 11:46:12 am »
I\'m getting ready to buy a Z and, like many it seems, I am torn between the SL-6000 and the C-7/860.  I definitely like the size and design of the clamshell more than the coventional PDA shape of the 6000.  However, I require a decent USB host.  I would like to hook up my Sprint cell for global wireless, a mini laptop joystick for MAME/SNES9x, external storage, and occassionally a mouse/keyboard or alternative input device.  I do not feel that the drawback of only being able to use the USB devices OR the WiFi at any given time will be a major issue.

My question is this: are there any significant differences between the built-in host controller on the SL-6000 and the Ratoc controller?  It seems like few people have done much with either.  The posts I\'ve read seem to indicate both host controllers place nices with just about any device that doesn\'t draw too much power.  Also, have people been able to get a USB WiFi device working on the Ratoc?

Finally, as anyone been able to find a cheaper USB solution for the x60 than the Ratoc?  Price is quickly becoming an issue in this decision (6000: 665 unit + 40 keyboard = 705. x60: 700 unit + 140 ratoc + 40 wifi = 880).

Thank you for your time.

Software / State of emulation on 5xxx series?
« on: February 22, 2004, 08:03:33 pm »
I\'m considering buying a Zaurus 5xxx for the obivous reasons however I would like a decently capable gaming device as well.  I see that the Zaurus has an impressive list of emulators however I\'m having trouble coming up with information on how well they perform as well as how difficult they are to control with not-quite-a-gamepad Zaurus controls.  The ones I would be most interested in are NES, SNES, and SMS.  I also saw that there was a version of Quake ported to the Z.  What kind of abysmal framerates would something like that crank out?

Thank you for your time.
