Hello

It's been a while since I contributed anything, but today for some reason I just visited the forum and saw the simpad community alive.

Wow. This is so nice! I gave my 128 Mb RAM simpad to Koen Koei, in the hope he would develop some stuff so that the platform would not end up dead.

I don't know if it helped, but I'm happy to see so many people doing so many great things with the simpad, even so many years after it has been discontinued.

General Discussion / Sharp Iris Prototype + Jtag Reader

Due to a lack of time with my Zaurus activities (I'm just starting to live normally now), I am selling a Sharp IRIS prototype. Basically, it is a SL5500G (german SL5500 ie with a QWERTZ keyboard) with a GSM module. The GSM module has been tested in France - it is working fine, without simlock.

The device itself is flashed with a demo OS that I didn't have time to remove. There's no apparent easy way to reflash it but JTAG, so I'm including a parallel port JTAG reflasher if you don't have any, along with a linux kernel sourcetree supporting the Iris, and the documentation I have - the hardware manual of the LinkUp L7200, upon which the Iris is based.

The Iris uses standard SL5500/c7xx batteries and a similar 5v charger, which has been replaced.

Could be fun to have for anyone wanting a treo-like zaurus, and with enough knowledge to do the reflashing. It was never mass produced and is quite "rare". It is *not* for end users. If you don't do JTAG, don't get it, unless you want to have a vintage item for your Zaurus souvenir shelf.

It's 200 eur + real shipping costs. More pictures (including internal pictures) can be sent if necessary. Paypal or bank wire only.

Cxx0 General discussions / Playing Vga Video On A C750/c760/c860

Thanks to the generous loan of a C750, I could start experimenting with software "enhancements".

After some research on the forums, I found there were many discussion about video playback on the C7/8x0, with most people using 320x240 only. Well, looks like you can do much better than that ! Maslovsky and kfetisov reported vga playback at 248 kbps with mono audio, but that too can be improved.

After some tests, I could succesfully achieve 640x352@25 fps, with 500 kbps and stereo 64 kbps audio. You simply have to overclock with CCCR=163 (edit /home/zaurus/Settings/freqchange.conf to add a line above the "Overclocked"/162 entry with "Max overclocking" and 163)

Here's the script I used for encoding, along with the command line for playback. I recommand mplayer-w100_1.0pre5.2-1_arm.ipk.

I put the files on a 1GB CF, so the space constraint is not existant. I will now try to reproduce that on a 2.6 kernel, which I patched to add overclocking support.

Guylhem Rom / Development Halted

Just a quick email to let you know I had a car accident in october, and I'm in the hospital until dec/jan with many broken bones. I've had a real net access since last week, and I first tried to sort of everything before passing the information.

As a consequence, development of the ROM has been fully halted. It also damaged the Acer N30 project I was working on.

Sorry about that. I will try to come back on the handheld linux world as soon as possible.

Regarding NAND upgrades, here is a pic of what I found in a Garmin GPS memory stick...
I am eager to try soldering a replacement. uboot from sashz could help, in the case the default bootloader don't recognise that chip.

Hardware Mods / Selling 6000 Parts

Due to a lack of time, I am selling the SL6000 screen I was attempting to use for the clamshell screen upgrade.

It is the 640x480 SL6000 standard transreflective screen. It is perfectly working (tested in 2 different 6000) and comes with the digitizer and the connectors to plug in on the motherboard.

There is a 3 mm scratch on the screen, but it does not cause any problem.

I would accept any offer. I would also be interested in trading it against something else (say a clamshell screen so I can try again :-) I could play with.

For Sale / Wanted / Mars, Mjolinor : A++

I would like to publically thank mars and Mjolinor. mars sold me his C860 for the screen hack attempt, and Mjolinor offered me a screenless C700 to perform further attempts.

Mars was extremely patient and understanding (my credit card had expired, so I couldn't paypal him immediately) and I must highly recommand him, for the Zaurus was send perfectly packaged, just as described, with everything promised - that and his strong support when I killed his Zaurus on the attempted hack are worth praising :-)

Mjolinor was also really helpfil - thanks to his donation, I have some good hopes of bringing back the Zaurus to life (if I can manage to find some parts :-) to go on with the hacks.
Such donations make possible the excellent support linux handheld have, on both the hardware and the software side, which in the end benefit not only to the donators but the whole community.

Just to let you know rc5 is under work. I have had some delays due to a miserable failure in an hardware hack attempt.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to figure out why the network icon vanished. I have some interesting ideas, and I will let you know.

Hardware Mods / Pictures Of A C1000/c3x00 Display

The screen hack may be put on hold while I try to figure out what happened (I hate it when I don't understand how I broke something), but I'm not giving up that easily.

I was wondering if anyone had pictures of the C1000/C3x00 display internals, or could take some ?

What I need is simply pictures of the opened display, to look at the connectors size, etc. and create new plans for this screen hack project.

For Sale / Wanted / Looking For A Broken Clamshell Display

I am looking for a broken clamshell display. I need a very small part that's inside, which is called a "power inverter". I can provide instructions to remove it if you want to keep the display.

If you have a zaurus with a broken display, removing this internal board make no difference to the look or the functionnality of the unit. I can also provide my existing power inverter (photo on https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=A...pe=post&id=341) if you don't want to leave the space empty.

If you prefer sending the full broken display, I can also give instruction to remove the display.

The display should come from a C700/C750/C760/C860. I can pay a fair price - not too munch considering I am simply trying to perform a hack.

I am now looking for a broken display to go on with a screen swap hack (see http://www.guylhem.net/r-hardware/zaurus/4-inches-display/)

What I need :  a broken C700/C750/C760/C860 display, ie the whole plastic part that's above the keyboard.

If you have a clamshell with a dead screen, and if you now use it to serve files, this would be the opportunity to put that screen into a good use :-)

Hardware Mods / Purchasing A Bga Reworking Station

For my own needs, I realise a BGA reworking station would be great for hacks. Moreover, I could let a friend operate it to the soldering instead of depending on the external company for the Z hacks.

So I think I may get one.

This one seems interesting (bga reballing to perform CPU swaps, etc), but quite expansive at >5k:

Hardware Mods / Need Pictures Of The C7xx Display Internals

To proceed with the screen hack, I would need pictures of a C7xx with the screen part opened, because I suspect there is a power inverter in there... and I don't want to risk damaging the 6000 screen.

Any idea where to find them? IIRC I saw one on this board, I just can't remember where.
