Deals and Great Z Buys / Pricejapan Price Mistake?
« on: March 28, 2006, 08:13:14 am » seems to have a price error bya factor of 10. C1000 is showing up as $36 shipped while the C3200 is $62. I wonder if anyone placed an order, I nearly did but backed out due to the obvious price mistake-refund hassle of an international transaction.
This was at 8AM EST.

« on: December 22, 2004, 07:37:36 pm »
I found this on e-bay (battery extender) and was wondering if it would be OK for my 5600. The item description just says Sharp Zaurus. Also, will this work with the Rayovac 15minute rechargeable batteries? Anyone have any experience with this seller?

Has anyone found a case for the 5600? I dropped mine the other day (no damage, thankfully) and would like to protect against repeat performances.

Software / Possible to read .chm files?
« on: June 20, 2004, 06:56:27 pm »
Is it possible to read compiled help files (*.chm extension) in the Z? I have some e-books that come in that format & I was wondering if I\'d be able to read them on my Z5600.

General Discussion / How to restore \'network.opt\'?
« on: June 03, 2004, 01:27:58 pm »
In trying to set up Kismet in my Z5600 I messed up my network.opts file. I found that I could add wireless LAN/TCP/IP only when the Network setting was accessed without root privileges (I\'m not sure if this should be the case). Anyway, now I get the error \"Cannot correct system setting file /etc/pcmcia/network.opts.
Is there any way to restore this? Or do I have to format & reflash?
I am running the latest Sharp ROM.

General Discussion / Can\'t add wireless LAN
« on: June 03, 2004, 01:09:09 am »
I recently obtained a Pretec 802.11b card and tried to set up Kismet on my Z5600 according to the instructions at
Kismet installed without any problems but when I tried to add \'Wireless LAN - TCP/IP\' under \"Network\" in the settings tab, nothing happened. I found that I could only add \'LAN - TCP/IP\' but after doing that my Z rebooted spontaeneously when I inserted the wireless card. It wouldn\'t get into the GUI and in fact it kept on rebooting till I removed the wireless card. Removing \'LAN - TCP/IP\' setting solved the problem of rebooting but I still couldn\'t use the card. Running Kismet also wouldn\'t wake up the card. I don\'t understand why I can\'t add \'Wireless LAN - TCP/IP\'. I am running the latest Sharp ROM. I\'ll be grateful if anyone can help me to resolve this problem.

User Request for Applications / Speech recognition
« on: May 30, 2004, 01:15:34 pm »
Has anyone thought about implementing voice/speech recofnition in the Z? A \'speech to text\' application would be very useful I\'d think, especially when the Z (atleast my 5600) has such excellent voice recording capabilities.
Unfortunately my own programming knowledge = 0
Therefore I am not capable of developing anything for the Z at all, but am willing to be a beta tester.
Anyone interested?

5x00 General discussions / How to SSH or Samba in 5600
« on: May 28, 2004, 12:55:13 pm »
I am an absolute novice and would like some detailed help on this. I want to access and transfer files from my SL5600 (Sharp ROM 1.32) to my PC (Win XP Pro). From these forums I gathered that this could be done by using SSH or Samba. Unfortunately I couldn\'t get either to work. Could someone please point me to a set of instructions suited for dummies &/or idiots?

5x00 General discussions / CF card speeds up Froot?
« on: May 23, 2004, 06:56:31 pm »
I observed a strange phenomenon in the Zaurus 5600. I had loaded Froot and found that it was playable at a good speed/ framerate only when my CF card (Canon 32MB) was in the slot. With the card ejected the game ran at a much slower rate. The speed decrease of the fruits after being fired from the launcher was quite noticeable, and the images were also blurred and distorted while moving. With the CF card back in, the game ran much faster.
I wonder if anyone has noticed this phenomenon with Froot or any other application. What could be the possible reason for this?

What is this special kernel for? Does it improve the functionality of the 5600?

5x00 General discussions / Problem with touch screen
« on: May 19, 2004, 10:24:09 am »
I\'ve been having a serious problem with the touch screen. Yesterday I noticed that the upper portion of the touch screen was not responding to the stylus; I couldn\'t open the different tabs. I recalibrated the screen but the problem persisted. I then formatted and reinstalled the ROM (Sharp 1.32) but the problem persisted. Next I removed the G2 screen protector but still no dice. I contacted Amazon and started started the process of returning it (its not even a month old).
Today morning I found that the screen was working again. I don\'t understand this. Can anyone throw some light on this phenomenon?
Its a Zaurus 5600 with pxa250 processor. I had installed the special kernel from ZUG downloads. Freedoom ran perfectly. I first noticed the problem when using a sketching program.
