C1000/3x00 Hardware / C3k & 8gb Card (what Size To Format?)
« on: May 17, 2006, 12:00:51 am »
Okay,
after a long hiatus, I am back to trying to get my little z up and running.  I have a 8gb CF card that I will replace the 4gb md card.  The card is hosed, and I don't have a back up.  So what 3 partitions should I put the 8gb card into?  what sizes of partitions, and should I have one vfat for my windows xp machine to read?  I need some recommendations here.  Do I even need that for openzaurus? I have only used cacko in the past, but for my zc3k, I am thinking that openzaurus (spitz, I think), will be more stable because it just uses the harddrive to install on.   Thanks, any advice would be great!

C1000/3x00 Hardware / How Can I Do This? (flash 3000) On Winxp?
« on: March 10, 2006, 02:42:36 pm »
Okay,
this is what I would like to do.  I totally trashed     my brand new (bought used) c3000.  I need to take out the 4g hard drive and replace it with the original files, so I can have a working CK, instead of a lovely brick.

Now since I am going to take it out, I would like to just put in my 8g CF card instead.  So, Is this correct procedure?

1st I go to TriSoft and d/l their ck flash image. C3000-2005-03-18-12-30.zip
2nd I place this unzipped on my 8 gig CF card thru a card reader
3rd I place the 8 gig back into my C3K Z and start it up   (voila a running c3k)

Does this sound correct, or am I going to have to do something else? Right now my 4g card is totally hosed, and I can't get into the diagnosis menu to do anything. I can get into the flash menu, but - I can't fdisk my drives, I have tried multiple times to do it - but nothing works.  (see my sad     experiences here)

Thank you,

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Totally Bricked C3000
« on: March 01, 2006, 04:04:34 pm »
Okay,
I have been trying now for two days straight to get into the diagnostic menu.  I have HDD2 Error, and I can't get past it.  I have done the OK & Power on thing. (menu 3 -1-Y) I have done it extensively.  But i still get the same error. I have gone to the page for Restoring a C3000 from scratch I am trying to do that also.  I can't get into the DB menu or the DM menu.  I have been trying over and over and over.  I took my batteries out for overnight even - still, can't get into any of the useful diagnostic menus.

what is the trick? I have all my files on the CF card (512mb)

I'm really frusterated!    I had Cackobeta on and X/QT  from when I received the Zaurus.  I tried to re-install cacko, the first part worked on that, but when I tried the Second part (3-1-Y) I get the same error:

error Hdd2,
EXT3-fs unable to read superblock
hdc2: bad access: block=2, count=2

any more ideas?  I am getting tired of yanking out the battery and trying to do a DM or DB

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Help W/ Cmd For New 8gig
« on: February 26, 2006, 05:01:12 am »
Hi,
I have the cl3000, and I am going to replaced the 4gb mdrive w/ the 8gb CF card. I would like to partition the cf card so that it is able to run both linux & also be seen by the WINXP computer.  So, knowing that the CL3000 has a small amount of ram memory.  How do you suggest that I partition it? And what would be the command?  OR should I just try to copy the exact 4gb drive over to the CF card? I just don't want to brick the Z.  Or do I try to do a NAND back up?

It seems lke my internal CF drive is pretty full.  I wouldn't mind starting over with the new 8gb CF card and re-installing the cacko beta, and the X/QT stuff.

Thanks for your help, I am very interested in all of your suggestions/help on this.

X/Qt / X/qt & Debian: Bible Proggie?
« on: January 18, 2006, 05:00:10 pm »
Hi,
I am looking for a bible study program.  I have heard rumors of gnomesword & Bible Times working in this environment.  Can someone help me?  I have found several for the PXD folks - but know they  won't for me. qpsword just doesn't cut for me in cacko.

Thanks,
Lareya

P.s. didn't know if I should have posted this in software of x/QT.

X/Qt / Help W/ Debian Install (xqt Installed)
« on: January 17, 2006, 04:45:37 pm »
Okay,
so I ventured out to Meanie's site, and decided to jump in the pool.  XQT was installed with the jumbo cram file.  Everything went well.  Now I am trying to get the Pocket workstation installed.
I type this:  ./xqt-debian-install.sh /hdd3/debroot

I get this info
creating swaffile /hdd3/swapfile
dd: /hdd3/swapfile: No such file or directory
mkswap: /hdd3/swapfile created
swapon: swapon: No such file or directory
instlaling PocketWorkstation to /hdd3/debroot
creating /hdd3/debroot
mkdir: Cannot create directory '/hdd3: Read-only file system
touch: /hdd3/debroot/fstest: No such file or directory
/hdd3/debroot is located on fat filesystem
generating ext2 loop filesystem /hdd3/pocketworkstation
dd: /hdd3/pocketworkstation: No such file or directory
mke2fs 1.35 (28-feb-2004)
Could not stat /hdd3/pocketworkstation --- No such file or directory
The device apparently does not exist: did you specify it correctly
cp: unable to remove '/opt/QTPalmtop/bin/startx-w
er: read-only file system
/hdd3/pocketworkstation crfeated.
rm : cannot remove '/hdd3debroot/fstest' : NO such file or directory
error: debian extract failed

Okay, so I figure someone will be able to understand all this and help me. Please be gentl - I am a newbie.  I
figure that I need to change something so it is not read only.  I used the cram files and the generic install.sh files.  I have 1gig SD card and a 4gig CF card.  latest Cacko 1.23  'Nastya' ; X/qt works, cuz I explored some of the new icons and they work i.e., ( gimp, Ethereal, Dia, FileManager etc).

Thanks for your help.  I would like the debian, cuz I would like to install some really nice bible study proggies and get ruby going!

Thanks!

For Sale / Wanted / Thinking Of Selling My 860
« on: October 02, 2005, 02:18:31 am »
Hi
I am thinking of selling my old slc860.  It is in good condition. the screen is perfect - never used without the screen protector.  The case has a little wear on the edges, and a slight dent on the top of the case.

I have the cacko on it (1.22a) . I also have the camera that goes with it, and the orginal box and manual it came with.  I also have a registered TextMaker on it.

What is the asking price on these used units? I can take a picture of it also.  I also have a 1gb sd card and 4gb CF card.  I have an american electrical plug in cord that came with the unit.  Also a CF wireless card ( Pocket PC Pretec 802.11b compactWLAN ) - that works with it, and a ethernet card (Socket LP-E )

So do aI sell it as a whole, or piece mail it.

oh,  I want to sell it cuz I want to get the OQO +1  unit.  I think it is more my speed.  Linux is just too hard for me to really learn.

Thanks for the suggestions/help

Cxx0 General discussions / Howto Get Frink Working?
« on: July 14, 2005, 09:07:05 pm »
Okay,
went to the web page for Frink, and d/l the ipk. Installed fine and see the icon , but it doesn't do anything when I click it. Also went into Qkonsole and wrote frink, but it didn't find anything there also.

Anyone know how to use this? I don't think I ever successfully got a java proggie working. I think from reading the doc's that the ipk is actually a jar file basically.

any clues?

Thanks!

Software / Ruby Install?
« on: January 28, 2005, 03:45:18 pm »
Hi,
I found the ruby install on the cacko feed. but I wonder is there more to it than that? i was using VisiScript w/ this newbie book ruby tutorial and it wasn't running the examples.  I began to wonder if possibly I need to dynamically link something or config some files?

ruby 1.8.0-1 ipk  installed on my SD card

oh yeah, when i goto Qkonsole and do:
ruby -v
I get this:
ruby 1.8.0 (2003-08-04) [arn-linux]

So, I think i did install it, maybe it is me not knowing how to use VisiScript. I do have it checked for Ruby.
I guess I will play around with it more.

Software / Synch W/ Korganizer (ko/pi)
« on: December 22, 2004, 05:30:32 pm »
Okay,
I have been having trouble synching at work w/outlook.  (W2k server machine). I am unable to download my z software because of permission issues (from IT). Anyways, to make a long story short. I have found this great proggie called Outlook2Vcal .  This program will take your calendar info, and put it into a vcal which Korganizer uses. I can then d/l that straight to my Z (I do it w/ IR-beam) and then I can synch or just load the vcal data.  This is the best for me, cuz it is fastest for me.  I need to synch at work, cuz that is where all my data is created, and I have to use Outlook.  anyways... I haven't seen it talked about here so if this helps anyone who has to do the linux/windows thingy - great!

Sharp ROMs / Major Dufus Act
« on: November 04, 2004, 05:34:25 pm »
Okay,
first the ipkg wasn't working well.  I always had an error statement and couldn't install programs like I used too.  I always installed on the command line.  So being the genius that I am, i removed it with the uninstall program.  But, I can't find the program to re-install it? question is, can I install programs now? someone have a lead for me? I checked with ZSI, and I saw only stuff for opie and open. I use cacko.   anyhelp would be great.

thanks a lot!
