Software / Opera Mini
« on: January 09, 2006, 08:24:02 am »
Hello,

just a quick note for those interested: the low memory version of Opera Mini (UserAgent: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/1.1.2421/lofi/nordic/de; mobile phone; de; U; ssr)) will run on the Z using Jeode in conjunction with ME4SE.

I'll leave the decision whether or not this is a sensible thing to do to the readers ...

Best regards,
Chris.

Software / Static Vlc Media Player 0.8.2 Binary Available Now
« on: June 27, 2005, 12:23:56 pm »
Hello everybody,

since VLC media player has (finally!) reached version 0.8.2 yesterday, I decided to do a quick updated build of my static executable today and make it available here.

As a quick reminder, my build is targeted primarily towards SL-5500 (i.e. non-PXA-processor) Zauri running an original Sharp ROM, but people have successfully used it on other Z-models as well. Some more discussion about it can be found in this thread as well as this thread.

For those of you who just want to grab the executable, just grab the vlc_0.8.2_arm.zip attached to this post. For those of you feeling adventurous, there is also an IPK including a minimalist external frontend as well available now. Be warned, though: this is highly experimental, and you're using that IPK at your own risk. That said, if you're still interested, grab the vlcplay_0.8.2_arm.ipk attached to this post (also includes the same executable as the ZIP file, so you don't need both).

Best regards,
Chris.

Software / Rtty For The Z
« on: April 26, 2005, 02:47:58 pm »
Hello everybody,

it's time for yet another obscure piece of software to make it to the Z -- I finally managed to patch up a version of RTTY, an FSK decoder for LINUX that actually works on the Z. Modified the DSP filter code so it uses (mostly) fixed-point arithmetic.

Managed to receive DWD's HF RTTY weather reports using just my Sangean ATS-909 and my Z by connecting the Sangean's line-out to the Z's audio in using an appropriate cable

Just documenting this here in case anybody else is interested in these more ... uhm, esoteric uses of the Z. If you need the patches, let me know.

Best regards,
Chris.
