For Sale / Wanted / Fs: Zaurus Sl-c860
« on: January 18, 2005, 03:12:25 pm »
Hi all

I've finally come to the point where I've become 'bored' with my Zaurus - no longer have the time/energy/interest to continue to work on it.  So, my C860 is up for sale!

It's in like-new condition, with the original box, manuals, etc included.  I will also include my Linksys CF Wifi card, and a 512MB Lexar CF card.  I also have a 512MB Lexar SD card which is currently used in my gf's digicam, but is negotiable - ie: could be included if we work something out.

It's never been used w/o a screen protector (ever).  The one currently on it is a Brando Ultraclear, just needs to be reapplied properly to get rid of all the air bubbles.

I can pre-load it with any of the major ROMs out there if you'd like (Cacko, OpenZaurus or pdaXrom); it currently has pdaXrom Kathrin RC8 installed.

With all the above-mentioned "extras", I am asking $750CDN obo plus shipping (shipping cost depends on where the buyer is located).  It will be shipped from Calgary, AB, Canada.

Please e-mail me at dgoodlad (at) gmail.com if you are at all interested.

EDIT: I've put my Zaurus on eBay (auction here), but if anyone is still interested feel free to e-mail me - you might catch it before any bids come in!

Thanks!
Dave

General Discussion / Foobar'd touch-screen!
« on: November 03, 2004, 01:00:13 am »
Hi all

I've got a zaurus c860, that I've had for a few months and has been working beautifully.  However, this afternoon, I brought it back from suspend and the pointer was 'pulling' to one spot, always wanting to click there.  It was working fine this morning, and was not dropped or anything.

Now that I've got it home, I can see from the reflection of my ceiling that the screen is INDENTED slightly in 3 spots in the same area.  There's what appears to be a moire-like pattern (colored, concentric circlular patterns) at the center of one of these indented areas, which is exactly where the pointer is pulled to.  It seems like a liquid of some sort may be 'stuck' between the screen itself and the touch-screen layer.  I can move this 'stuff' around slightly by pressing on the screen lightly, but cannot move it from the spot where it's stuck.  The pattern shifts, etc, but does not move.

Has anyone had anything remotely similar to this happen??  I'd be devastated if this screen was screwed   Any advice???

Thanks!
Dave

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Enlightenment anyone?
« on: October 13, 2004, 11:58:40 am »
Hi all!

I'm getting my Zaurus running more and more like my desktop every day here!  I just got Enlightenment DR16.7 compiled and running beautifully on my C860

It's definitely not the window manager for everyone, as it doesn't really act as one would expect a 'pda' to, but for me this is how I like to work.  The automatic right-click after 500ms is rather annoying in E right now, so I've got to change that, and tweak some other things, but all in all it works quite well.  Memory footprint is only around 4mb, so technically I'm using less ram than I was when matchbox+openbox were running!  However, I may want to find a couple apps for displaying batt status etc...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / su?
« on: October 12, 2004, 11:02:35 pm »
Hi all

I'm just playing with setting up a normal user on rc5 (I just HATE running everything as root... too sketchy).  However, I cannot get 'su' to work as my normal user:

Code: [Select]
su - root
Password: [typed in pw]
su: cannot set groups: Operation not permitted

Anyone know what it's actually trying to access/change here?  busybox is suid root, so it should be able to do almost anything...

I am able to go from root to a normal user, though (as root, run 'su blakeyez' and it goes just fine, no warnings).

Zaurus - pdaXrom / xargs?
« on: October 12, 2004, 09:31:31 am »
Hi all

Just curious: should the 'xargs' program not be included in findutils?  Is it in any other package at all?  I'd like it around both for shell scripting and for certain packages taht I want to compile that need it as part of their build process...  If it's not currently included, consider this a feature request

Thanks for any info

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Icon in matchbox
« on: October 11, 2004, 05:54:42 pm »
Hey all

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I just can't seem to get this to work.  I've got vim/gvim 6.3 built for rc5 now (and am building an ipk for it as soon as I get this stupid icon setup hehe).  I'm trying to use the png icons that come iwth the vim distribution as icons in matchbox (using a 'gvim.desktop' file in /usr/share/applications).  I specify:

Code: [Select]
Icon=vim48x48.png
I have copied vim48x48.png to /usr/share/pixmaps.  The icon shows up as garbage on the screen when I restart X, though.  I can view it just fine in gqview, though.

Any suggestions?  Is there a specific format that the icon must be in?

Thanks!

OpenZaurus/Opie/Qtopia / OpenEmbedded - Random Source Corruption
« on: August 14, 2004, 02:47:49 pm »
Hi all

I have been playing with openembedded the past few days, trying to see if I can get it to at least build a workable image which I can then play with and customize.

However, in the process of building, it seems that the source for various packages gets corrupted along the way.  It has happened twice now building gcc (once on the 'gcc-cross-initial' package and once on 'gcc-cross'), and once on ipkg.  The compile fails with various error messages centering around 1 or 2 lines in a specific file, complaining about various things being undefined.  When I look at the file that the compile fails on, the line above the one that's being complained about always has a string of about 50 occurences of '^@^@^@^@".  This seems to happen on random lines, in random files.  I haven't dug deep enough to find out whether those lines are ones modified by the various oe patches for these packages, but in any case this corruption is a PAIN.

I still haven't figured out how to consistently force a complete rebuild of the package that errors out (including re-downloading the source, extracting it, patching it then building) without deleting my entire build directory first.  So each time it's just trial-and-error, which is not a good situation.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Any advice?

TIA
Dave

Accessories / DLink WCF12 Wifi card - not detecting
« on: July 03, 2004, 07:04:19 pm »
Hi all

I just went out and bought a [Linksys] WCF12 wifi cf card, and the zaurus seems to not detect it at all.  No kernel messages about it (checked using dmesg), no icon, no nothin.  I am using the latest cacko rom+hotfix b.  Anyone have any suggestions?

TIA
Dave

edited to correct the brand name - I bought a d-link wap at the same time and mixed myself up!  The card is a Linksys WCF12

Linux Applications / OpenTTD - attn 'josh'
« on: June 23, 2004, 11:24:37 am »
Since the OpenTTD topic disappeared yesterday (I assume due to the forum switch etc), I'm going to start it up again

josh: could you repost that japanese URL with all of the kernel patches and the framebuffer SDL please?  That was a great site!  Certainly the explanations are basically unintelligible from babelfish ("the screen shakes, it shakes!"), but the code is enough!

I was hoping to have my Zaurus today, but looks like those idiots at customs are holding it up for whatever reason (it should have been in Canada on Sunday, and purolator is still saying it's pending customs clearance).  As soon as it gets here I'll definately take a look at your version of OpenTTD - do you have a patch against the codebase that I could take a look at and apply?
