New products and alternatives / Foldable tablet (phone)
« on: October 31, 2018, 02:48:44 pm »
Not particularly an alternative; however this looks interesting... (well, cool at least!) Royole Flexpai:  To get info re availability I added one to the shopping cart, however, when I got to entering an address it did not have 'United States' as a choice in the country drop-down (though it did have 'u.S. Outlying Islands')

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / WiFi and 4g on
« on: June 11, 2018, 03:47:04 pm »
Normally I have WiFi running (and connected when when at home and at work, on the guest network) along with 4G. The other day I was shuttling from one work location to another (so 'lost' WiFi) when I found a bunch of apps that wouldn't work. Twitter said 'No internet connection,' Life360 said 'Check your network connection,' LinkedIn would not connect, Google Play said 'No internet connection. Make sure Wi-Fi or cellular data is turned on then try again, " etc.  Well 4G/cellular data WAS turned on so I wasn't sure why I was seeing that error message! I checked all my data settings, rebooted, etc. No joy!

At work they have changed the guest network WiFi - now after connecting you have to launch your browser and acknowledge some use language. You don't have to do this all the time, only every few days. The other day I couldn't get connectivity and all these apps were "dead" for all intents and purposes! Turned out WiFi was showing "connected" but i hadn't gone to the page to re-acknowledge; as soon as i did that i was OK!

The bottom line: when I had no more WiFi my applications wouldn't just automatically continue to work using the 4G data connectivity, they all just say "No internet access". Shouldn't this happen/switch over seamlessly (i.e. if an app is connected via the WiFi network and loses WiFi connectivity, shouldn't it just stay connected via 4G?). I twigged to this when I turned WiFi off and they all started working immediately!

P.S. The only place I am aware of where I have specified to use WiFi only is in Firmware Update(i.e. only check using WiFi network)

EDIT: Found an "Aggressive Wi-Fi to Cellular handover" in Developer Options, so have checked that to see if it helps....

Gemini PDA - Android / How to (sticky key)
« on: May 21, 2018, 09:48:02 pm »
I'd like to somehow enable sticky keys for 'Shift" "Ctrl" and "Fn" but can't find any tip/trick or way to do this. With most of my entry being thumb-typing, pressing Shift and then the letter to capitalize (i.e. consecutively) is much easier than doing so simultaneously! Any solution?

Gemini PDA - Android / ATT 4G LTE
« on: May 15, 2018, 05:06:28 pm »
Seems like I should be able to get this because ATT shows 4G LTE coverage in my city/zip; and the Gemini supports the required frequencies/bands. However, when I am at the lock screen it shows "AT&T - NO SERVICE" and when logged in shows 3G.

I've checked all the APN settings (and tried them all), have Enhanced 4G LTE Mode on, etc. but no joy!

Any ideas?

Gemini PDA - Android / Login
« on: May 15, 2018, 03:06:50 pm »
When I start my Gemini I have to enter a password.  Approximately 95% of the time I enter the password and then press enter, but nothing happens. It's not the wrong password, if I enter an incorrect password it actually says "incorrect password." After I backspace and re-enter the password and press enter, I'm good to go. Not the end of the world, but damn annoying nonetheless! Any thoughts?

Another question is re when I set clock alarms. When I set an alarm and it goes off I have to login in before i can either snooze or dismiss the alarm. Again, annoying. With my HTC U11 I can snooze/dismiss without going through the login sequence; is this a setting I can change?

Thanx much,
SNi

General Discussion / Two Weird Issues
« on: January 02, 2006, 05:50:30 pm »
Recently have developed a couple of anoying problems:

1. Every so often (approx. every week or so) when I try to start KO/Pi I get an error message telling me that libmicrokdepim.so.2 is missing. I uninstall and then reinstall the kmicrokdelibs package and everything is OK, at least until the next time that libmicrokdepim.so.2  decides to disappear...  Any ideas?

SL-C3000 w/ stock ROM, korganizer and kmicrokdelibs both 2.2.3, same problem if on internal flash or SD, same problem with "regular" or Fast Load.

2. Lost my WiFi card so bought another AmbiCom WL1100C, which is what I had before.  Works OK to connect, however does NOT want to disconnect. When I tap the globe icon and hit Disconnect, it will not disconnect and gives a message "Network Device Busy" Have tried to reset, suspend, etc. keeps saying Network device busy. After a while system reboots and fails to go through the entire process, gets stuck  at the black screen, cursor blinking bottom left, message HDD1 error.  I do a factory restore (turn on with OK button pushed) and then restore from my backup, everything back to normal (except I loose a couple of things from HDD3)... Any ideas of what is going wrong and what I should do to avoid this? Or failing that a command to kill whatever is going on or a disconnect command that I can run from console...

TIA,
SNi

General Discussion / Encrypted Volume
« on: September 09, 2005, 12:16:52 am »
I'd like to have an encrypted volume on my (stock ROM) SL-C3000 - not the entire SD or CF but just certain directories, so that files written/read to these directories are transparently encrypted and decrypted with a key, similar to how I had an encrypted volume on my HP200lx using SecureDevice (also could be done with SecureDrive and a number of other programs). Does anyone have something like this set up??

Doing a little searching I found a program called Crypted File System by Matt Blaze that seems to be along these lines. There are Debian versions available at ftp://ftp.zedz.net/pub/crypto/disk/cfs/ Apparently .deb files are similar to .ipk files and can be extracted using ar -x <pkg name> However I (blush) can't find an ar prog that I can use. I downloaded a couple of scripts from the web that failed to extract the cfs .deb file. I'm sure it's trivial to do if you know how, but I just have my Z and a Windows box, so any tips would be appreciated.. An .ipk of cfs would be extra appreciated
TIA,

Software / Ipk For Rubu 1.8.1 Or 1.8.2

Anyone have an ipk for Ruby 1.8.1 +??  I have the 1.8.0-1 but need 1.8.1 or higher to try a couple of wikis (Instiki, Pimki).
Thanx,

Cxx0 Hardware / Aircable Problem
« on: November 25, 2004, 08:41:53 pm »
Trying to use an Aircable to get a bluetooth connection to a Motorola A630. I followed all the directions in the various threads on this site and at Shirtpocket, etc. In the Network applet i set up an IRDAxxxxxx file, went in and modified (added /dev/ttyS0 at the top, etc.), etc.

OK, so I first get a successful pairing. Then as soon as I hit Connect, the system says Initializing and at this point the AirCable light (which had been solid blue i.e. paired) immediately turns off. As soon as I abort (or wait until the attempt fails) the light comes back on and the Aircable appears to be back "on." Any ideas on what I should do?

Software / Memory problems
« on: November 05, 2004, 02:06:35 pm »
Whenever I run KO/Pi (1.9.9) every so often I get a dialog box stating that I am running out of memory and which application do I want to close. Since I'm only running KO/Pi I usually "X" out of that message. Then I can keep going until the message pops up again. Sometimes though I don't have a choice and the app gets shut down automatically. This only happens with this app, even when it is the only app I have running. The rest of the time I don't get memory problems, even when I have multiple apps open (e.g. Calculator + IQNotes + Hancom Sheet, etc.)
Any ideas? Anything I can do to figure out what's up? Pls include the commands since I'm not that great with linux commands, etc.
