GPSDrive is an early port of an excellent moving-map GPS system. It easily paired with my Socket Bluetooth GPS with little configuration hassle, then proceeded to download maps over WiFi. It was almost too easy :-) A quick push of the "fullscreen" button on the Nokia brings the map into full-screen mode. The software is still pretty beta, but it worked well enough to take me on a 1200mile+ drive last week!

I picked up a suction-cup radar detector mount from Radio Shack, and modified it to allow me to attach my Nokia 770 to my windshield just next to my rearview mirror. The software did a great job of showing me exactly what highway I was on, and I could easily see my turns well in advance. At one point I missed a highway (at 3am in the middle of the desert), and I easily found an alternate turn to get me back on track. This was WAY easier than paper maps.

Nokia Tablet / Nokia 770 Vs. Sharp C-760 Comparison Chart
« on: December 20, 2005, 01:52:50 pm »

The Nokia 770 is a huge deal for all the Linux PDA fans outside of Japan. For the first time since the Zaurus 6000 was discontinued, we have a production Linux PDA widely available (at your local CompUSA even). Hopefully Nokia will support their developers better than Sharp has, and bring additional devices to market in the future.

I've made a feature comparison chart between the Nokia 770 and Sharp C-760 here:

http://www.markandjo.com/markblog/?p=86

I've also included several side-by-side pictures to attempt to show the differences in form factor and screens. Links to the pictures are just below the chart.

Please let me know if there are any other pictures you would like to see, and I'll try to take some more.

The Nokia 770 a great step forward in having additional Linux PDA devices (other than Sharp) that we can hack. I think Nokia 770 development and usage fits well into our community here. Here are my forum thoughts:

I posted a comparison of my Nokia 770 vs. my trusty Zaurus C-760 here, for those who aren't familiar with the Nokia:

Zaurus - pdaXrom / On-Screen Keyboard?
« on: June 02, 2004, 04:07:46 pm »
I tend to use my SL-C760 in portrait mode a lot, but sometimes I need to make a quick keyboard entry and love the on-screen keyboard in the sharp ROM (much easier that swiveling around to the keyboard). Is there something similar available for the pdaXrom?

Basically I\'m looking for a keyboard that can pop-up from an icon in the task bar and allow full keyboard emulation (ctrl, alt, etc, would be sticky and gray out when tapped to allow multi-key commands).

Sorry if I missed this info and am reposting, but I didn\'t find anything in my searches.

User Request for Applications / iPod clone
« on: March 09, 2004, 02:27:40 pm »
The other day I was thinking how great it would be to emulate the iPod\'s physical interface as a software music player on my C760. Looks like someone has gone and done this in the PocketPC area.

This would be great for the Zaurus!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Socket WiFi?
« on: December 16, 2003, 07:19:09 pm »
Any special tricks to get Socket WiFi running on X11? I used the LANConfig widget, and am seeing all my settings in the Home/Choices/common/Network-LAN-test.conf file (my network config is called test).

When I run ifconfig, I see my network info under eth0.

Is there something I need to do to initiate the connection?

Cxx0 General discussions / Installing Just a Kernel
« on: November 22, 2003, 03:01:25 am »
I have a SL-C760 and would like to install a Sukoshi kernel I downloaded. I have sucessfully installed Sash\'s system and 96MB mod, so have some experience. However, I can\'t find instructions for just installing the kernel. Is it the CD trick? Do I need a file other than the zImage file on my CF card?

Bonus points for pointing me toward a kernel that works well with Sash\'s ROM that will get rid of the constant \"low signal\" errors I get from my Socket low power WiFi card :-)

Thanks in advance!
