Ubuntu / A Version Of Ubuntu With Working Feeds And Apt?
« on: January 07, 2010, 03:57:40 am »
Hi guys. I've been looking at the Ubuntu forums, and got stuck on the library issue killing apt updates in the most recent release. Zubuntu is very cool, and, as a result, I'd like to go with a full-on ubuntu-with-working-repos setup on my Z. Do we have one? Is one looming in the future? As I said I've really enjoyed the versions of this I tried, and I appreciate the work that has gone into it. At this point my Z's best hope for staying in regular action is a real distro of jjust this kind.

Ubuntu / How To Change Gui In Jaunty?
« on: April 26, 2009, 05:06:08 pm »
How does one change the desktop in Jaunty?  I tried installing GDM, but that pretty much killed the installation. I find I prefer the lxde desktop in Cortez's hardy to icewm, and I'd like to try it in jaunty.

« on: April 21, 2009, 11:43:44 pm »
I installed connman fromm the thread here and the extra bits it required (like udhcpc) it all looked fine, but I can't connect via dhcp to anything anymore. Suggestions?
Using Jaunty, btw.

Sharp ROMs / Ambicom Wifi Recognized But No Joy
« on: April 20, 2009, 11:28:08 pm »
I'm using cacko from nand in a zubuntu dualboot setup. The cacko install has the eviljazz fastfpe-cachedfb kernel and his modules installed, and has had the disk-free patch applied. When I insert my Ambicom wifi card it is correctly identified by an on-screen pop-up, and then remains, apparently, uninitalized (and unavailable). The card works fine for zubuntu jaunty, and I think used to be automatically recognized in cacko/sharprom. I'd like to get wifi going in cacko as well as zubuntu- Any suggestions?

Ubuntu / Jwm As In Puppy?
« on: April 20, 2009, 11:20:52 pm »
Has anyone considered running jwm in jaunty?  I tried it with default settings from the icewm menu, and it clearly needed some keymapping and tweaks, but I seem to recall that jwm is actually lighter than ice, and might be worth the effort.

General Discussion / Lamp And Moodle On Pw Etch!
« on: March 09, 2008, 12:34:07 am »
I set up lighttpd on pdaxii13, then got to thinking about what I might do in the Pocket Workstation setup. I installed apache2 (mpm prefork) php5 and mysql--and the packages that go along with them- and setup dyndns, and finally installed moodle 1.9. It actually worked beautifully, if slow. I can easily switch between running a simple lighttpd and LAMP (and moodle) with some short scripts.  Nothing profound, or terribly useful, but it was fun to do, and still somehow a pleasant surprise to see my little Zaurus do something like this

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Vncserver For Pdaxii13
« on: November 18, 2007, 11:29:56 pm »
Clearly not something I use much, but it occurred to me that I might want to run a vncserver on my Z. I thought the tight vnc ipk would do it--but it doesn't. I fugured I must have something that would suit--but it is all for qtopia roms.  The last relevent posts in the forums seem to be very old and unresolved. Is there a decent vnserver available for pdaX (ii13)?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Epiphany?
« on: October 02, 2007, 01:46:44 am »
Based on the description in the "new packages" thread epiphany is said to work with Firefox 1.5 and 2.0--does that mean there is a firefox 2.o on pdaxii13v2 to test this with?

Debian / A-data 16gb Manfid
« on: September 25, 2007, 02:21:35 pm »
on pdaxii13, cardctl ident gives:
socket 1:
Product info, "","",""
manfid 0x000a,0x0000
function 4 (fixed disk)

I'm guessing that all those zeros means the Z has no real idea what the card is?

If so, is there another method to check?  would A-Data have the info?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Sl 3100 Pdax Current
« on: September 19, 2007, 03:02:27 am »
I tried for 4 hours to install uboot/pdaxcurrent.

I get to the "would you like to install" it.
 I say y enter
 It says it will reboot
The Z goes black.

I reflash the NAND
review the instructions
do it again.

this is about 12 times now.

the Z goes black, no leds, no anything.

I find myself disliking uboot

edit: after sleeping on it, I suspect this must be ssome obtuse user error

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Cheap "ea-bl08" 1700 Mah Lithium Polymer
« on: September 16, 2007, 05:39:55 am »
ANother ebay thing...  I think it might have been mentioned before.

There is an ebay store selling a lithium-polymery 1700mah battery for about $10 usd.  If it wouldn't cause problems for the Z, this might be a cheap handy spare.  I thought I'd mention it becuase it seems a little to good to be true.  For $10 I'm ok with relatively short life, but not ok with any risk to the Z--thought it might be a good idea to ask around.

Before anyone recommends either a sharp battery, or one from lion batteries--I plan to pick up one of those soon anyway.

Thought I'd raise the issue....

Is it at all obvious that I use my Z for browsing a lot?
