OESF Wiki / Error Accessing "playing With Python" Page
« on: March 30, 2009, 09:03:04 pm »
I was perusing the OESF wiki, and noticed that the "Playing with Python" page has an error when I tried to access it:

Is there a preferred place for capturing all the links, all the zaurus hints, all the useable zaurus info in existence?

I know these forums are the main repository for zaurus knowledge, but sometimes it can be cumbersome to wade through forum messages trying to remember where I found something. Or even to find things I didn't know I needed, but are burried in messages.

Would the OESF wiki be the best place, or is somewhere else better? I can take a stab at adding and organizing some content if that is of use.

I keep thinking I'm going to sell the 3100, but every time I pull it out and look at the keyboard or its other features and recall the fond memories over the years, I just can't do it.

My latest project is reaquanting myself with Cacko before I try to install zubuntu. Even after using the Nokia N810 for some time, the Zaurus and even Cacko still impress me.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Sonkei Distribution?
« on: July 23, 2008, 01:20:15 pm »
I noticed a reference to a Sonkei distribution that was an overlay on Angstrom, and was wondering if any one had any additional thoughts or status. On the dev mailing list some months ago, it was listed as a distribution with a focus on respect, which sounds very intriguing.

There is an image on the hentges site from Dec 2007 I may try.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom.org -- Is Login Now Required?
« on: November 13, 2006, 11:59:28 am »
When going to the pdaxrom.org site, I am now greeted with the following:

You are not authorized to access this page.

Is login now required or is something else up?

Edit: Seems to work now.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / 8 Gb Seagate Cf Drive
« on: September 25, 2006, 06:37:47 pm »
I picked-up a Seagate 8GB CF drive. When placed in the CF slot on my 3100, under Cacko, playing media files (audio and video) is choppy -- like the media momentarily pauses while the CF drive spins back up?

The internal Hitachi microdrive doesn't have this problem.

Anyway, are there some settings for improving microdrive performance in the CF slot?

BTW, I tried the Seagate drive in my digital camera, and it is too slow in raw mode as to be unuseable. Well useable, if you don't care about getting a second shot.

Thanks.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Unionfs
« on: May 26, 2006, 01:10:41 pm »
One of the things I like with open-embedded on the 3100 is that it uses a microdrive partition for the operating system -- no ipkg-link, no symlinking directories to the flash-storage, no worries about filling up the flash. The downside is that the flash is unused.

For pdaXrom it would be cool if someone could develop a system that makes use of unionfs. This way it could be used with all devices (not just those with microdrives) to extend the filesystem onto another memory card. And because unionfs is an overlay, when it is running, you can delete or modify files in flash and it is reflected in the overlay -- not in the physical flash. Boot without the unionfs card or unionfs turned on and the flash is back in your default state.

Anyway, someone seems to have had success with unionfs on the Noka 770, so it should be possible for the zaurus: http://www.hczim.de/software/mmc-unionfs.html

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Media Player Problems In Opie
« on: May 17, 2006, 04:14:58 pm »
There are two issues I am having with opie on 3.5.4.1RC2 wrt media playing:

1. No volume control with volume at or near max

There is an opie mantis entry for this to which I added my experience: http://opie-bugs.oszine.de/view.php?id=1765

2. I can't play ogg-vorbis files in opie-mediaplayer2. I can in xmms-embedded and opie-mediaplayer1 with the aforementioned volume issues. I also found an opie mantis entry related to this issue or the ipaq. Has anyone gotten player2 to work with ogg-vorbis files on 3.5.4.1-rc2?

As a comment, in general I have gotten used to desktop linux distros including ogg-vorbis support out of the box but omitting mp3 support (especially US-based distros). Is the reason for not including it out of the box in opie related to limited size for the images?

For Sale / Wanted / Sl-5500 For Sale (edit: Sold)
« on: March 27, 2006, 05:51:34 pm »
Edit: Sold

Disclaimer: This item is neither mint nor like new.

For sale: A well used, but well loved SL-5500 -- think Velveteen Rabbit (from the children's story).

The 5500 is fully functional and the screen appears to be clean. The case has some nicks in it and some brassing/rubbing (serial number rubbed off). It comes with the original battery which still holds a decent charge (how much I haven't checked).

What's included:

- SL-5500
- Lid fro 5600 (the clear one)
- A stylus (original one broke)
- Docking cradle
- 5V/2A charger from old ipaq 3600 (sorry I don't have the original charger)

No manuals or CDs.

It currently has oe/gpe flashed.

Price: USD 60.00 includes shipping within continental US. I will consider shipping first (before payment) to an active US-based forum member.

Payment via paypal. PM if interested.

Why am I selling? With 4 devices, the 5500 goes the most unused.

For Sale / Wanted / Forsale: Nokia 770
« on: March 09, 2006, 05:39:50 pm »
(Edited on 03 Jul 2006):

I originally offered my Nokia 770 for sale on 09 Mar. Since a sale didn't work out, I kept it and have used it off and on since. Now I really need to sell it, since I need some funds to help off-set a new laptop I just purchased. So here is a revised listing:

Nokia 770, purchased 30 Jan 2006 from CompUSA.  Generally, lightly used, but developed the common crack between usb and speaker connectors (seems to be mostly cosmetic). Has been flashed with the new 2006 OS. I am missing the fabric pouch, but everything else (box, etc.) is included.

I will also include my Stoway Bluetooth Keyboard, which worked great with the 2005 OS -- but I don't think the drivers are ready yet for the 2006 OS.

Asking price: $315.00 shipped only within CONUS (Contintental US). Paypal only and buyer who is not a new forum user. ATM only want to sell within US. PM if interested.

I decided to keep the zaurus since I am down to one device and I work mostly off-line. But here are several features of the Nokia 770 worth considering: (1) the screen is bigger, (2) it is geared around a mostly connected paridigm, (3) thus far Nokia is actively seeking to cultivate the devloper community, and (4) the biggest feature IMO is that community development seems to be centered around application development. Maemo-mapper and the port of Nethack are two cool examples.

For Sale / Wanted / For Sale: Ipaq 3600 Parts Grab Bag
« on: March 08, 2006, 02:47:16 pm »
Don't know if this is of interest to anyone, but:

I have a well used iPaq 3600 for sale (16 MB "ROM" size). Screen is in good shape. I don't think there is any dust. Screen was replaced during the warranty period.  Battery switch broke off in the on position. I don't think the battery works any more. However, works when plugged in to an adapter. Missing some misc pieces like the stylus eject button, maybe the battery switch door, and maybe a spring on the record button.

The iPaq has an older version of familiar linux on it. The bootloader will need to be updated.

Other additions:

   - 1 Serial Cradle -- those were the days flashing over the serial connection.
   - 1 USB Cradle
   - 1 CF sled (edges hacked off to reduce size -- was glued on iPaq

This would be suitable for someone who wants the parts for a project.

Edits:

   - Forgot I also have a stowaway foldable keyboard for the serial connection that can be included.
   - Pricewise, something like USD30.00 plus actual shipping cost.

Software / Kino2: Confused About Pre-rotating
« on: November 08, 2005, 11:02:17 pm »
Fyi this is for the Kino2 in Cacko 1.23 . . . on 860/3100

I am confused about how pre-rotating works. I created several files (320x240) with pocketdivxencoder: portrait, landscape (pre-rotated 90-deg). If I run mplayer from the terminal, it is as expected: portrait is sideways, landscape looks right.

Now the part that is confusing with kino2. I make sure the autorotate is not checked in preferences. The portrait file when played with the hardware scale checked or unchecked, looks to have been rotated by kino2 (i.e., it is not sideways).

With the (hardware) auto scale unchecked, the landscape pre-rotated file looks the way it is supposed to (i.e., just right). BUT if I check the auto scale in the menu, the landscape file is now sideways and wrong aspect ratio and the video performance is not good.

From what I have read including for kino2, pre-rotating is the preferred way to get better video performance. But . . . kino2 doesn't seem to be working for the pre-rotated files. Maybe, I am doing something wrong. Can someone enlighten me?

(I also encoded with Gordian Knot with similar results).

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Cryptoloop Modules
« on: October 06, 2005, 07:12:45 pm »
Do any cryptoloop and related kernel modules exist for pdaXrom to allow the use of encrypted loopback devices?

Now that I've found FreeOTFE, there is the possibility of accessing the same encrypted volumes on my linux box, windows, and hopefully pdaXrom. The volumes need to be fat/fat32 formatted to be read on both windows and linux.

Anyway, just wondering . . .

For Sale / Wanted / Sl-6000l For Sale On E-bay
« on: September 04, 2005, 01:12:34 pm »
I need to find a good home for my SL6000L. You can find it on ebay here => My SL-6000L on Ebay

It includes:

* SL6000L with original box and all original items -- original Sharp ROM and never reflashed
* iRiver USB host adapter
* Headphone adapter (2.5 mm to 3.5 mm)
* Ultra mini USB keyboard

I am donating 6% of the sale back to the community (via paypal). I'll consider the buyers favorite developer or ROM for the donation. This is one small way to give back.

I would like to restrict the sale to shipping within the US.

---

I'll also probably put my SL-5600 up soon and try to stick to one zaurus at a time.
